Definitely not a 5 star hotel. The staff has no clue what hospitality is and is very rude and unprofessional. They were not helpful from the minute i walked to the reception desk and what strike me the most was that they were arguing and shouting at each other outside my room at 09:30! There was an odour in the room as soon as i walked in that took a while to clear and the shower divider glass came off by touching it. At least the hotel is in a great location.
Clean, breakfast was good and most staff was pleasant.
I didn't like the fact that we had to pay to use the sauna for a hour or so, the hotel isn't cheap so I think the sauna should be for free
Friendly, flexible staff. Nice recently renovated hotel, comfortable rooms, best location in the city of Rethymno near to the beach and sightseeing areas.
The breakfast was good and the location ok. I found the write up on booking.com misleading as it lead me to believe the hotel was right on the beach. It was not. It was a good 15 min walk in very hot sun. The hotel staff were efficient but distant, not overwhelmingly friendly as we had found in other places. The room was nice, but overall I’d rate the hotel 4 star, not 5, if compared to similar hotels we stayed in.
Although the city tax was not much, Bookin.com charged us, did not pass on the charge to the hotel, so we had to pay again. The rooms were nice but not 5 star, for eg the sheets were over starched (thus scratchy) and the towels were well worn. Hotel staff could have been friendlier, and the hotel’s location misleading in terms of the beach ,but great for the old town centre. The gym was pretty poor with only three machines. Finally the room did have a strange odour which we could not trace, and the so-called sea view was blocked by a large leafy tree and one could not see thru it at all (photo attached). Two nights was definitely enough.
The hotel staff was superlative, the food was superb, the location was ideal.
Sometimes it could get noisy outside.
