“If you want an old school ryokan experience, Hinode does the job nicely. It doesn't get much more convenient than the few steps it takes from Iseshi station. The host who welcomed me is English-functional and thorough in informing me of where everything was located in the building, as well as furnishing a small restaurant map for the immediate neighborhood. The traditional room was spotless, comfortable and equipped with a hot water pot and tea things, mini-fridge, small safe for valuables, TV and A/C unit. The bedding was comfortable and the hot bath down the hall was heaven to relax in after a long day of walking the shrine complexes. Speaking of which, the ryokan is an easy walk to the Geku shrine, though you can hop a bus from Iseshi station if you prefer. Geku-mae Street is lined with some small shops and restaurants, and there's a Family Mart convenience store around the block. so everything you need is nearby. The traditional Japanese breakfast was delicious and I enjoyed all of it. Rice, salmon, fresh and pickled vegetables, a dollop of potato salad and a small green salad, as well as a rich dark miso soup were all very good.”
