7.0 Good
Pros: I loved the location, stunning scenery. If you can somehow book it, their kaiseki dinner is amazing. Service from the workers there was also amazing, they made the stay worthwhile. They are people who actually cared about you, full of smiles. One of the older ladies there were quite concerned about my group not being there with me for breakfast when I was there, which I thought was really kind of her.
Cons: The outdoor onsen was downright disgusting. I expect floating debris here and there but one of the pools was almost murky with rotting vegetation. NASTY. I also thought the rooms were too old and need to be refurbished. At the very least the futon needs to be a bit more comfortable. Far too thin.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Rooms, food and onsen itself are perfect! We enjoyed a lot of our visit! One day is not enough for this cool place, so highly recommend to spent 2 or 3 days here!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The onsen and location in the snow
Cons: very touristic and adapted to foreigners tourists.... We must wear clothes during bath which is not japanese... Not quiet and adapted for single travelers
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The outside baths are truly spectacular. We were there while it was very snowy, and getting up early do have the baths to ourselves was a real treat. The bath dresses are a bit weird, but we got used to them. The hotel itself is really quite charming. A little dated, but that’s part of the fun. Room was very spacious, and staff were all lovely.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was organized by all staffs perfectly from the time we arrived at Jomo-Kogen station and took the free shuttle bus to Takaragawa Onsen. The price is inclusive of dinner and breakfast. Onsen is just perfect in the middle of snow. We stayed at the Annex building. The view from our room is unbelievable. Very valuable for money.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: - Great Japanese style room, spacious and lots of amenities - Excellent buffet Japanese breakfast - Great onsen spa inside, large area and also outdoor bath inside, very good experience onsen with snow
Cons: - A bit dated room but still clean - Smelling of old cigarettes smoke outside the room (floor) - Far from Minakami station, not easy to get there if you have big luggage in snow season
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Cheap weekday rates. Awesome onsens (plural). Great location for town - no driving.
Cons: No wifi in the room
7.1 Good
Cons: Worst attitude ever. Very rude, we asked him some questions but received no word/ no greeting and no smile. And guess what? We spoke decent and very polite Japanese! Did not expect English words from the staffs but their attitude is just unforgivable. Reading thru the comments a lot of people had been through the same experience but it seems like the owner does care
6.0 Good
Pros: The onsen baths!!!
Cons: The pictures online are deceiving and there was no place to eat dinner in the hotel.
7.0 Good
Cons: Breakfast is annoying. Supposed to be 7-9 but the buffet closes down long before 9 and they keep you a plate of some stuff from the buffet if you haven't shown up before it shuts.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very family friendly and nice hotel transfer to train station.
Cons: Rooms a little tight and no large beds only singles pushed together.
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: I liked the scenery around the hotel.
Cons: I didn’t like that I paid in advance for a room with a view, supposedly one of the last fancy corner rooms with a view of mountains, and I was given a room overlooking the parking lot. It felt like the nice rooms are reserved for locals only, even though I paid for a more expensive room. When I checked in they didn’t account for all my family, as I made the reservation for 3, and they wanted to charge me another 25,100. Yen! I didn’t like being charged for the Onsen when we never used it. We were told we were not allowed to go in with a bathing suit. The website does not specify that the outdoor onsen is separated and only nude. To Americans it looks like an outdoor hot tub for all. I didn’t like that every time we went to dinner we were always seated in a crowded corner by the drinks station, like we weren’t allowed in any other seats. The buffet was ok, but the same every other day and the breakfast options were weak. Dining facility was dirty and old and the guy that ran the alcohol was rude. It was very crowded and felt like I had to fight people just to get food. The room was small, carpet was horribly dirty, and the beds were so hard and very low to the ground. I never saw a gym and the staff was not very helpful. It’s a great place if you wanna bathe naked with a bunch of old strangers but not very friendly to foreigners. Added a photo of my view. Doesn’t let me rotate the pic.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: There’s a lot of snow activities for kids & non skiers, the view is so breathtaking, especially love the outdoor onsen & the room/hotel interior is quiet modern not like most of ski resort i went before.
Cons: Most of the staff can’t speak English. The food for us moslem is not much variety.. And the room tv channels all are Japanese tv not even one English Channel.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Location was good. Dinner buffet was good. Onsen was good.
Cons: Breakfast buffet. Expensive room rent. Needs renovation.
7.1 Good
Pros: view from room - nice mixed breakfast and dinner buffet beautiful onsens (own in hotel and free transfer to takagarawa onsen)
Cons: gym is missing - bathrooms are outdated - rooms are too small

Cons: Nil
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved it all! From the start we had a very warm welcome with tea and a small dessert and from there we got to pick out our own yukata and got a quick tour of the place. We reserved a private outdoor onsen on the roof and it was great bathing under the stars! Dinner and breakfast were prepared like art and tasted that way as well. Having said all that it doesn't come close to the hospitality the owner Abe showed us when we missed the morning train and would of had to wait another 4 hrs for the next one. He personally drove us to the next city to catch another one just in time! The kindness he showed was amazing...This place is truley worth every penny and we will remember it always!!!
Cons: Nothing
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staffs are nice, gentle and helpful . Although they aren’t fluently english, they can understand and help a lot. That’s so meaningful to me, like stay with local Japanese family. Dinner and Breakfast have to order in advance, or the date before check in. The rooftop Onsen is worth to try , it costs about 2,200 yen for 40 minutes. Or you can wait for free entrance after 11 pm. The room is nice , large, simple and clean ryokan. I spend most of my time with “Kotatsu “ just put my legs under the heater table . The surrounding is also beautiful in snow season. You can see snow tree , snow mountain.
Cons: There are no cafes or restaurants nearby
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Cute onsen on the roof. Friendly staff.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very friendly and helpful. The owner, Tsuyoshi san went out of his way to make sure our stay was comfortable. He even took the trouble to drive us to the train station, when it was snowing. Overall, we had a wonderful stay, please note that, it is important to book your dinner before you arrive, because there are very few restaurants nearby. The rooftop onsen in the snow was a highlight.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The spa, the breakfast
Cons: Room a bit small for 3 adults
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Competent and friendly staff. Simple, but well working room (incl. AC and small refrigator) Nice onsen on the roof. Fresh breakfast (with some western options). Perfect location if doing Canyons (rafting etc).

Pros: Absolutely amazing! We were treated like roytalty! The staff extremely friendly and helpful and always left little surprises in our room (snacks/tea). We loved this place. Amazing views and facilities. The food was out of this world.
Cons: We could not fault the venue.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: From the very start when I wrote to the property to book an extra day, I found the staff to be very responsive and detailed. During our stay, we found the staff very courteous and ever ready to help. We like to specially mention Hana who was serving most of our meals, for her warmth and sincerity in providing us excellent service which we will not easily forget.
Cons: We thought the food could have been better.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: My impression about this place start right after I walked in the lobby and the story after that is like living in a paradise. We have a very good time there. 2 nights feel like not enough for me, I would like to stay there longer than that. The food is great and also the night time snack in your room. Free alcohol drink at the lobby in night time. Open-air bathtub with great veiw.
Cons: Absolutely nothing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Elegance, courtesy, hospitality, no need to ask, they read your mind.
Cons: Only a remark: in the amenities provided I got a shaving soap which was clearly used by a former guest. Upon request it has been immediately replaced.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Senjyuan wowed us from the moment of arrival. The main building is architectural and smells SENSATIONAL and we immediately felt welcomed by staff. We were served a welcome drink and sweet snack in the lobby then served tea and another tasty snack in our room. We were speechless as we entered our room, it was exactly what we pictured for a ryokan stay. We journeyed out into the grounds and found the “library” - a cosy wooden hut with a crackling fire, rugs, tea and books! We were also lucky enough to have snowfall during our stay and took the chance to toboggan down the slope. Dinner and breakfast were delicious and we appreciated the adaptable dinner menu that ensured we loved the meal from start to finish. If this wasn’t enough, I left my engagement and wedding rings in the room and the staff ensured they were returned to me in Tokyo before we departed the country. We loved our stay and will recommend it enthusiastically to anyone looking for a relaxing, blissful stay in the area. Highlight of our time in Japan.
Cons: Nothing
9.2 Excellent
Pros: This is very Japanese destination, we stayed in a Japanese style room and ate wonderful multi course Japanese food at night in our own private area with a dedicated server - Euin from Vietnam was so welcoming
Cons: A little more detail in English would help - there is a special etiquette when using the onsen and luckily I had read up about it - otherwise we would have spoilt it for others. Also the spa was booked out every day we were there - which was weird- we were brought to another hotel and enjoyed a facial and shiatsu there instead and this was organised by the lovely staff. Perhaps it would have been better to let us know in advance that the spa can be busy so we could have booked ahead.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Simply stunning location, luxurious onsen facing gorgeous mountains. Everything expected and then some more. Thank you Nguyen for looking after us during meal times! She was absolutely lovely.
Cons: Not a deal breaker in any sense, but a shuttle bus to Jomokogen Station on top of Minakami station would make this more accessible.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Peaceful, attention to detail, high grade of execution. There is a walking trail you can take to explore the grounds.
Cons: None.

Pros: - Staff - The private onsen in our bedroom - Dinner - Room
Cons: Quite pricey. I wanted to cancel because of the coronavirus and they accepted if I paid a cancellation fee (which I understand) of 41,000 yen (half the price I had to pay for one night), which I think is way too much.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The environment is extremely comfortable. You can see the snow mountain not far away from the hot spring. Met the innkeeper and his family (father, mother). Every day's breakfast and dinner always bring people infinite warm feeling, that is to say, breakfast is the wife of the hotel owner, dinner is his father's, and I like this kind of family style and service.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything about this place was perfect: Very welcoming hosts, amazing traditional dinner and breakfast, a very relaxing Onsen and on top of that a wonderful Shakuhachi (traditional bamboo flute) performance during dinner. Overall definitely our favorite Ryokan experience so far.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: We had a great time! All the food and services were perfect, and the owner Daisuke & staffs were all very friendly and supportive...a highly recommended place~
Cons: A bit inconvenient without a private shower in our room, but still can find other solutions - there’s shower facilities at the free private hot springs (reserve in advance)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The family and staff who run this Ryokan take pride in excellence and it shows in every detail, from the rooms to the spa to the food. The sincerity in the care they take of guests is something more places would do well to emulate. We felt valued and exceptionally taken care of. And the food!! Phenomenal!! Set in a small, mountain town, this Ryokan is a perfect place to let all the stress of travel melt away. We stayed for 2 nights and I highly recommend that. 1 night would have felt too short. It is also run by a family of Shakuhachi players and makers(2 of only 20 in Japan). The nightly concert and introduction to the instrument adds a wonderful dimension to the whole experience. As a musician myself, I was delighted to spend time learning more about the instrument; they were quite generous in their time teaching me to play and about the instrument making process. An unexpected, fortuitous synchronicity. Thank you!!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Yumotokan is by far the best place I have stayed in Japan on this trip. While it may not appear like a traditional 5 star hotel, this is a very old style guest house, the service is 5 star, and I felt I was getting the true Japanese experience. The staff were exceptionally kind, and I forgot to order a meal at the time of booking. I did so on the day, and it was not problem. I am a vegan and again it was not a problem at all. The meal was the absolute best I have had in Japan, home cooked with wild vegetables from the area. It was amazing. Breakfast was again incredibly delicious. Very traditional Japanese food.
Cons: It was absolutely perfect, no complaints! I wish I could have stayed longer. I will definitely go again to this beautiful guesthouse. The onsen was fantastic. The food was absolutely delicious. Nothing was a problem at all for the staff and the owner for us, they went out of their way to make us feel comfortable, and very welcome!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Having stayed in a high-end ryokan the previous night, we wanted to be a little more budget conscious. This place had caught my eye as it had a picture of Golden Retrievers on their marketing photos, and looked to be very family friendly. These turn out to be the owners' dogs, and they were a HUGE hit with my children, as were the Christmas decorations, which were already in place. This is a western style purpose-built Pension, with large family rooms and ensuite toilets. Possibly about 8 rooms in total. We had 4 single beds in our room, and still lots of extra space for a small sofa and a tv. The beds were very comfortable, with heavy duvets to keep out the cold. There was a heater in the room, but we turned it off at night and had a slight breeze coming in. Everyone slept very well. There was a shared indoor onsen, and an outdoor onsen (rotenburo), a few metres walk into the garden. This was available for private use only, and on a first come, first served basis. Max 30/45 mins per family. It was lovely, with landscaping and a view of the autumn foliage. Heaven. The day we arrived heralded the first snowfall, so it was much colder than we had expected, and totally thrilling for us all to see the autumn leaves AND snow at the same time. The owners, a young couple with their first baby, had this establishment running like clockwork. The wife and her mother are the chefs, and we had the most incredible dinner, with soup, bread, rice, roast chicken, grilled fish with cream sauce, salad, dessert, and a lovely bottle of white wine (additional charge). Most residents were families with small children, and the children all got together to play games after the meal. It was an incredibly friendly and inviting place. Breakfast the next morning was also huge and delicious, so all in all, an unexpectedly wonderful find. We noted that the ski slopes were very close by, and plan to make a return visit there later in the winter.
Cons: nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: 1 Super friendly and helpful staff. 2. Very family friendly. I had no problem letting my daughter walk around without close supervision . She liked petting the dogs. 3. Cons: I have no complaints!

Cons: We had a western breakfast at the hotel. The food could have been better. Also since the location of the hotel is off path, please reserve your dinner in advance.

Pros: The staff were very friendly and helpful. The owner, Tsuyoshi san went out of his way to make sure our stay was comfortable. He even took the trouble to drive us to the train station, when it was snowing. Overall, we had a wonderful stay, please note that, it is important to book your dinner before you arrive, because there are very few restaurants nearby. The rooftop onsen in the snow was a highlight.
