Staff was very nice and helpful.
When we got there we found the street torn up and major construction going on outside our window, drilling from 830 am until 6 pm. We very very upset and wish we had been told. When we asked for another room we were told the hotel was full. The room itself was very small, two twin beds pushed together as one. Showered was very cramped.
Staff friendly and helped in al our needs Good breakfast wonderful croissant Location unbeatable in the very heart of ancient Mantova!
Booked a junior suite - excellent value - and was not disappointed. Room was large and quiet with good air con. On street parking with permit issued by reception for 5 euro a day. The hotel is located in the centre of the old city and convenient for the major sites. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful.
We are not that picky, but there was not a lot to like Angela was the only person to like. Location was as expected. Home made jam and cakes were good, but unless you really like sugar every day for breakfast, it’s just not enough to balance the fact that there’s really nothing else. One of us can’t eat wheat so there wasn’t much else. Salami was quickly depleted but we liked that there was some protein w/o sugar in it
Since they knew the time of our arrival, they had two well dressed employees greet us. That was the last time there was any service. This window dressing covered up the complete lack thereof. The clincher was the check out. We asked if we could check out the night before departure and were told yes. So we tried to check out as requested. No, we were told by the young lady. “I have checked out of the system for the evening, and it is SO quick, it will only be 2 minutes in the morning.” “two minutes? Are you sure?” Oh yes, she said. I had to wonder why she was even there. THey leave at 8, so no night duty after that. Morning came -no one at the desk.No one answered the desk, no one there. We were beginning to get really anxious. We went to the breakfast room where one young woman was trying handle like 5 tables of coffee orders, plus refill plates, plus clean up and told her our issue. So she gets her cell phone and calls one of the two ladies from the first day. No answer. She calls someone else. No answer. She starts apologizing and panicking. We tell her that the night girl told us that it would be VERY FAST. She said, “But she knows I don’t know the system.” But she left her station and went downstairs and started trying. Cut to the chase: it was a good thing our train was late. When the manager lady finally was summoned, instead of checking us out, SHE SAT and GAVE TRAINING TO HER EMPLOYEE. It was complicated. I have never come so close to losing my patience. The hotel is noisy, the bed is narrow and a bit saggy. Terrible WiFi was my big issue (work). Street noise even w/ windows shut. Slippery step to the bathroom that was colored the same as the lower floor obscuring it completely at night. Broken hair drier, finicky toilet. Door didn’t close properly. Room was tiny & stuffy. In no way did it live up to the reviews I read here on booking. It is the single most disappointing hotel in our European travels of over a decade.
