-room QR code wouldnt sync to my phone -the lockers below the bed were barely big enough for my tiny little suitcase -downstairs bathroom was disgusting and no toilet paper -seemed like there was only one person working despite two people being there (only one person was answering any questions)
QR code as key is really handy - you don't often forget your phone! Bar downstairs quite nice although is open to public so may be difficult to meet people Very clean, nice decor and aesthetic Feels new
Top bunk had no railings so felt like you could fall off Shared bathrooms are in the rooms which has prod + cons - pros you don't have to go far for the toilet/shower cons you're limited as to when you can use them if you're being considerate
More like an hotel in terms of the type of people staying and the lobby. Not many young travelers.
Excellent location. Quirky interiors. Good bar & restaurant downstairs.
No air con temperature adjustment in the room.
The staff was very friendly and the location was great. The style and atmosphere was excellent.
It was very loud in my hostel room.
From fr. ant. bastart.
1. adj. That degenerates from its origin or nature.
A journey does not begin at the gate, on the platform of the train, when you get into the car. It starts the moment you start to fantasize about starting it. When you’re obsessively looking at a point on the map, while you’re chatting on the web about a destination, consulting books, guides, chatting with other travelers or natives about that dreamed-of place, you’re actually on your way.
One travels for work, for pleasure, alone or in company, to discover or to lose oneself, to get to know oneself better or to connect with other people, to look at different cultures, different ways of living, different ways of looking. It also has contraindications, of course. Because as Mark Twain said, “Travel is bad for prejudice, intolerance and narrow-mindedness”.
If for whatever reason your way passes through Madrid, Bastardo is your destination. We aren’t a hotel, we aren’t a bar, we aren’t a space for creation. We are all that and a few other things. We’re running away from purity. We are a meeting point for visitors and locals from Madrid in the city centre, between Malasaña and Chueca. A cultural laboratory always open to the latest trends. An ecosystem created for your enjoyment where you can attend a concert or a screening of an avant-garde film, watch an exhibition, chat over a drink with the rooftops of Madrid in the background, share a good meal with friends and, of course, also stay. All with a careful design of the house brand. In short, Bastardo is a watchtower from which to conquer this chaotic, mestizo, vibrant and hospitable city. Make it yours, it’s not hard.
We know that no two trips are the same. That’s why we have options that adapt to all needs and budgets: private or shared rooms, for those who travel alone, for couples, for groups, for threesomes, for families, with a terrace… Always with an exquisite design and special care for small details. Patti Smith, Luis Buñuel, Divine, Emiliano Zapata, Marie Curie, Confucius, Frida Kalho… each of our rooms pays tribute to characters who have gone off the beaten path, pioneers who have had the audacity to think and live differently. Bastard attitude.
So much for introductions. We’ll have time to get to know each other little by little.
Welcome to Bastardo.
Come in without knocking.
