The location was really easy to get to from LAX. After hearing mixed things about DTLA, I was pleasantly surprised by the area, lots going on, good transport links to places like Santa Monica, Echo Park, Silver Lake, Los Feliz etc and a huge Whole Foods store less than a 5 min walk away. The Freehand was exceptionally clean and the dorm beds were incredibly comfortable. Overall an excellent experience - I would stay here again!

Kitchen/Lounge in the basement was lacking in atmosphere could be improved by better lighting, sofas/more comfortable seating. Although the bathroom in the room was clean and stylish, I think they could be improved by a door that locked for some privacy (especially when sharing with strangers!) and a mat to step out on to after showering.. I also think improvements could be made to events/activities for people staying at The Freehand in the capacity of a hostel - with some specifically organised off site events, or events/activities specifically targeted at hostel, rather than hotel guests. I was travelling alone and I think this could have improved my stay in LA. But regardless, I was still very happy with my stay at the Freehand..
