Great localisation (try the closest onsen it’s pure gold), more than decent dormitory, very kind staff, could just use a bike rental to cruise around Kyoto!

The staff was super friendly and the common area / cafe was very cosy. The dormatory was also really nice and we'll decorated. Also a good location - very central and close to the famous temple. Also very clean place.

The bed was hard as a rock and so uncomfortable. Like sleeping on the floor. There was no sink / soap in the bathrooms on the dormatory floor which was quite irritating. You'd have to go downstairs every time to wash your hands. They make you take your shoes off when you go upstairs which I really approve of. Though, it would be great if they provide the guests with some slippers or something as the floor was really cold when I was there in January.

Other than the situation with the blood stains on my blanket it was an okay experience. It is in a good location so if you want to go to different temples they are in an extremely great location. You have access to buses and they also offer full day pass so that you can ride multiple buses and visit all over Kyoto. Their Cafe is nice; a little overpriced ( you do get a guest discount) but it is very beautiful and a nice place to hang out and talk to people. So the atmosphere was pretty good. Their kitchen is nice and well stocked with pots, plates etc and easily accessible. The beds were pretty decent as well; definitely sleepable. Their showers are pretty good and clean as well. Please keep in mind they charge another ¥200 per night because of an accommodation tax but that isn't their fault but just a heads up for backpackers on a budget.

I didn't like that when I switched rooms for my next booking that the blanket had blood on it. There were multiple blood stains on it. When I went to the front desk to ask for a different blanket it was as if though I asked for them to find a pot of gold. They told me they didn't have any more blankets which is really odd considering they have multiple floors and different beds and they don't have extra blankets to switch out. But the problem was when they didn't even TRY to look for another blanket and I had to continuously tell them that the blanket was disgusting. You would think after telling someone the first time, after paying money to stay, that there are blood stains on your blanket that they would TRY to look for another blanket. It was highly disappointing and very concerning as far as the cleanliness of this place. The Asian lady did not want to look but thankfully the Spanish lady (mucho gracias) went ahead and helped me out and switched out my blanket. I understand this is a hostel so it may not be as clean as a hotel but blood stains are a little bit too much and not to TRY to accommodate someone with the new blanket really left a bad taste in my mouth. The beds are also set up in such a way that you can easily hear and the light of the people who are above you, but that is not too much of a problem if you have earplugs and an eye mask.

Insanely good location (right next to Kiyomizu dera, so it was easy to go there at 5am), great price, friendly staff, great cafe under the hostel. Very clean. Great showers. Friendly guests as well.

Only one bathroom (that I found), which I thought could have been a problem, but wasn't. Never had to wait. Really a 10/10 experience. No complaints. One of the best hostels out of the 8 I stayed at in Japan.
