The hosts are excellent. Mama and Papa aim to make you feel like you're at your grandma's, and it does! There's an atmosphere of a family home, so meeting new people here is always a pleasure. They are very caring and knowledgeable about the region (ask whatever you what, even if Mama doesn't know it, she'll do her best to get you your answer!). Also, the house itself is an attraction: an old, wooden, Japanese style house that's just full of character! After all, what's the point of staying another night in another regular hotel which you'll never remember, right? If you go to Kyoto, don't missed it!
There's nothing to complain! The house is great; the beds, toilets and bathrooms are very clean; there's always food on the table; the breakfast is plentiful and diversified (you night even find something there from your hometown, who knows!).
Amazing hosts and the house was beautiful! We will definitely stay here again next time we are in Kyoto. I would definitely recommend to stay here.
great host, loved the traditional room, great breakfast. All the good reviews are true.
A reason for visiting Kyoto! Seriously, I included Kyoto in my travel plan just to stay at Mama's and Papa's! It was my second stay at Compass, and definitely not the last! It may be in some distance from the city center and main attraction sites but it has good transport accessibility, by bus or by train. Mama and Papa welcome you as a dear friend, always helpful, always ready to answer all your questions and suggest activities. Also you can rent a bike for exploring Kyoto. Rooms are clean and cozy. We had Japanese-Style Room room with privat garden - it looked like we travelled back to the 17th century but with wifi and aircon! Breakfast is rather decent but enough for morning. Free tea, coffee, ice cream and simple snacks :) Also, I don't know how they do it, but Mama and Papa manage to attract great people as their guests, whom you become good friends just at instant. The only problem of the guesthouse is that it is no nice and lovely it is difficult to get out of the house and it is always very sad to leave!
This was the best place I stayed in Japan when I visited. My only problem is that I didn't stay longer! The owners were friendly, accommodating, and, more importantly, really inviting and accessible which what you want in a trip in a different country. They worked really hard to accommodate to my vegan diet providing options, not only for their breakfast (which was fantastic) but, also, calling a local restaurant in advance to ensure they could cater to me! Just above and beyond in every way. The room was carefully laid out and clearly had care behind it, the facilities were all great. The price and location were great - very suburban and relaxed area. I received some lovely gifts from the owners, and had some lovely chats with the other guests. I can not stress how much I enjoyed this experience, I can't wait to return. Thanks so much!
Literally no negatives.
