10.0 Excellent
Pros: The decoration, the design and the hostess of the house are really excellent.
Cons: The one who stayed in the same room snored really loud XD
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Friendly, helpful owner. Toilets and showers were very clean despite sharing with others. Mattress was comfortable. Convenience store nearby. Enjoyed my stay, very worth the price!
Cons: Location a bit deserted at night
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The personel was wonderful, they helped us plan our trip, were always there for whatever we needed. And the hostel was just magical. Love the place.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was one of my favorite hostels to stay at! Staff was very friendly and spoke english very well. The kitchen was small but efficient, I very much appreciated the free coffee and tea. The shampoo, body soap, and laundry soap were cleverly stored in gatchapon machines and reasonably priced. The location is very convenient and close to downtown, Kumamoto castle, and transit. I especially LOVED the dyeing activity; my t-shirt turned out very lovely and I appreciate the personalized souvenir to take home.
Cons: No major complaints. Sometimes the motion sensor lights would turn off before I was done in the room, but this was a minor inconvenience.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely beautifully furnished, they thought of everything and have great kitchen facilities, a place to relax, beautiful bathrooms, and lovely bedrooms. Doing the indigo dying is so much fun and creates a unique and incredible souvenir. The staff are so friendly and helpful and really work hard to make sure you enjoy your stay. This place was a joy to stay in and great value for being a hostel.
Cons: It was great, free towels provided would make it perfect, but understandable that it’s a way for them to save costs. It’s a fabulous place to stay regardless.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect! The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful. The hostel is beautiful and full of warmth. The tatami beds were comfortable and the rooms and toilets were clean. The decorations are full of interesting touches, such as Kumamon and Kiki's Delivery Service.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything! This was the most comfortable stay I've had in a hostel thus far. The owners were very approachable and nice, I dropped off my bag early and I was given a map and a few suggestions of what to see before I came back for check in. The details in the hostel are immaculate, loved the wood floors and the jazzy ghibli music! The beds were very comfortable, and although they were set up in a way that does not give you a lot of privacy I did not mind at all because there were plenty of other spaces to do things. The rooftop view is beautiful at night. I wish I could stay longer! Until next time!
Cons: The only thing I'll say that could be improved is the timing of the rooftop lights at night! Wanted to sit and enjoy the view but the lights kept timing out after 5 minutes.

Pros: Good location clean and comfortable
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Staff were exceptionally polite and professional. When I asked the way to the nearby park, they even gave me the free entrance cards. Also for us (2 ADULT AND 1 2YO KID),we added a futon. Because the tatami area is connect with the bed area. So adding a futon simply give us huge space to sleep and I didn't need to worry my son falling down from the bed. They even have free spring (both public ones and family one).
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The beds and the bathroom facilities were excellent. The warm welcome and help with our taxi.
Cons: There was no restaurant in the hotel so even getting breakfast was a real problem. It is located right under the Kumamoto airport flight path so we had planes going over all the time.

Pros: It is a very convenient ryokan. Really nothing to complain about, ultra clean, very nice hosts always available. And the japanese breakfast was really good.
Cons: Climbing the steep stairs with a heavy luggage was quite tough. It is also a little bit far from the city center by walking
9.6 Excellent
Pros: breakfast is really worth the 700 yen, if I could’ve added dinner I would do that too. Owner is very welcoming, speaks English well and everything is clean. It is accessable by car but harder if you are taking public transit. There’s not many stores around either as its in a local residencial area.
Cons: no shower cap and comb
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The ryokan is well situated at 5 minutes from Shin-Suizenji station. The room is clean, very light and quiet. The breakfast was so delicious ans the owners so kind!
Cons: Nothing to dislike!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: We were allocated a larger room than originally booked as the large room was free so we appreciated the additional space. The en-suite facilities were accessed off our entry corridor. The Japanese breakfast was exceptionally tasty and beautifully presented.
Cons: The location is a little way out of the central town area but easily reached by the efficient tram system.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Simple but confortable ryokan, the owner was very king and the breakfast very good. Only negative point, the wifi was not working.

Overview Reviews
With a stay at Guesthouse Asobi-Gokoro Kumamoto-City - Hostel in Kumamoto, you'll be within a 5-minute drive of Kumamoto Castle and Kumamoto Station Tourist Information Center.
7.9 Good
Pros: Nice host that can help you out with bookings and recommendations for restaurants. Close to the main station (10-15 minutes walk or 800 yen with taxi). Bathrooms and showers where nice and clean, also a big kitchen with good equipment.
Cons: A bit far from the city center, but not a problem if you’re in Kumamoto to see the surroundings as we did (Mount Aso). There are still many restaurants to choose from and a large super market close by. The Japanese sleeping mattresses was a little bit thin compared to other places we’ve been to, I thought it was a bit uncomfortable but my boyfriend had no trouble sleeping so it depends on how picky you are :)
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The guy at the reception was super-helpul and saved us with the bus schedule for the kumowara onsen. Also, we had some nice chats in the common room. The location is good and only 15 mins walk to train station.
Cons: The check in only after 3pm surprised us (we didn't read the rules carefully) but it was great that we were able to leave our bags and go explore town! The position of the female shower is a bit awkward, but not too bad.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The host is super nice and gave us big welcome. Old style japanese room is clean and comfortable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff is lovely House is so Japanese
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The owner of the property made sure to sit down with every guest when they arrived and explained the area around the hostel. This level of service was truly fantastic. The living experience is also very traditional, yet without the normal price tag of similar traditional lodgings.
Cons: There was nothing I wasn't pleased with. This is a great property
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Right at my check in I got a refreshing drink and a colorful presentation about the area ! :)))
7.9 Good
Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff. A Japanese experience at a very reasonable price.
6.7 Good
Pros: You can enjoy a stay at traditional Japanese tatami house. A good garden view in front of out room door.
Cons: Location is bit far, about 1.5km from JR Kumamoto Station. It's traditional tatami-matted house, hence, sound proof is bad. After 11pm, all doors & windows ate lock-up. Common area lights all switched off, you can only stay in your room. Check in only 3-9pm.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: It is really local home and you spent your night on tatami. Also the staff organize dinner gathering in the hostel once in a while in which you can enjoy local family food with other guests.
Cons: The guesthouse is a bit far from the Kumamoto station.
7.5 Good
Pros: the location is good & and the staff is friendly & helpful.
Cons: the soundproofing is bad

Cons: Shower smelt a little mouldy. Price high due to event.
8.8 Excellent
Cons: Bathroom is not clean but with lot hair around the drainage.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable, well fitted contemporary rooms. Unfortunately I didn't get to use the spa but it looked good. Breakfast was the best buffet selection across all the hotels we stayed in over our 2-3 week trip - Fresh omelette chef.
Cons: Shame the castle view is no longer there due to a new building next door. Nothing significant to comment on.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Didn't try Breakfast but the hotel is right in the city centre so lots of local cafes easily accessible. Nearby to the Tram stop so easy to get from the railway station to the hotel. Tram fare costs 170Y
Cons: Room was a little small but was fine.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location was excellent. Very close to tram stop and in a covered shopping arcade close to restaurants, coffee shops etc. Deluxe double room had a queen bed. Excellent shower , separate to basins and toilet. Modern facilities.Very clean. Very friendly staff.
Cons: No safe in the room. Very few hangers in the closet. The pillows are hard.
6.3 Good
Pros: If arriving from Fukuoka Airport, there is a bus that runs from Fukuoka Airport to Sakura Machi Bus Terminal, which is the last stop. When you get off the bus, you can walk to your left to the end of the terminal, then turn left again and walk straight down to Richmond Hotel which is a 5 minute or so walk. Don't use Google maps on your phone as it takes you out the long way! The bus depot is attached to a Mall, and if it is open you can walk straight through the Mall and out towards Richmond Hotel. The location is great - right in the middle of everything, shops and restaurants everywhere. McDonalds and 7-Eleven is a couple of minutes walk from the Hotel. If doing domestic flights you can fly in/out of Kumamoto Airport which is only 20km out from the city centre.
Cons: We had a standard non-smoking double room. It is small and we felt was not value for money! We were there for the rugby world cup and we understand prices were probably premium for the rooms, but we would not pay that price again for this place! There are plenty of choices in the same location so do your homework.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: High floor room gave us a good view to Sakura Machi shopping centre. Excellent service from staff!
Cons: Mattress was a little firm but that’s down to personal opinion.
K2 Hotel Shimotori - Kumamoto - Building
8
8.4 Excellent (1,129 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Shimotori Shopping Arcade near the intersection of Shimo and Ginza streets, this hotel features spacious guest rooms emphasizing rest.
6.0 Good
Pros: Comfy capsule beds, good in capsule valuables locker and all very clean.
Cons: The wifi was simply abysmal. You have to register devices on u spot and once you have done that it basically doesn't work. Constantly cutting out and next to zero coverage in dorm rooms. Makes planning somewhat tricky and aggravating and you will need to do some planning as this place is a solid 20 mins walk from Hakata station (35/40 from tenjin) and there is nothing around the hostel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The attention to detail and staff is very friendly.... good for a short stay
9.2 Excellent
Pros: This is a capsule hotel right in the centre of Kumamoto. The staff were really helpful and friendly - they didn’t speak English but went out of their way to communicate using translation apps which were great! The hotel is very clean and organised. The area around the hotel is lively - shops, restaurants etc open pretty much all day, it was very busy when we were there (but maybe because the rugby was on!). We went to a really good sushi restaurant nearby called Sushi Naniwa which I would highly recommend!
Cons: The only thing I missed compared to other capsule hotels is the relatively small space for locking/keeping personal items. But I guess most people only come with a small amount of stuff
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is the best ever budget inn that I evered lived in!! It totally exceeds my all expectations with enough space, privacy and customer care. There's a separate floor only for female guests with password lock to prevent a bump-in. There're 2 toilets outside the sleeping area and it was well equipped with toiletories and intelligent toilet boards. There're 3 separate shower rooms with good sound-proof design that you would never heard any water sounds while others were taking shower. Nonethless, there's a power room for girls to do make-ups and hair-settings with cutton sticks for ear and cutton pods. I've never seen any hotel with such a price level with so many facilities that really appeals to females.
Cons: It would be great if credit card is acceptable for payment at the reception. Also better to have more explanation on the daily cleaning process to make sure guests are awared that they can't be in the rooms during the cleaning period. English-speaking staff should be equipped more too. But overall, I like my stay in this hotel and would recommend to others!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very kind, even allowed me to check in half an hour earlier than I’m supposed to. Great location. Right in the center of the shopping streets.

9.0 Excellent
Pros: Good location. The park is within walking distance from hotel. Hotel has ample parking space for self drive and it's free of charge.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved the room’s cozy design and the inclusion of an air purifier. Pity that there wasn’t anymore non-smoking rooms when I booked so I had to make do with a smoking one which I must say wasn’t too bad. They are a Michelin recommended hotel by the way.
Cons: Pillow was a bit too flat so maybe you can request for another if you wish. The cigarette smell along the corridor was bad! Maybe they should change it into a non-smoking hotel.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: It’s a very classy Japanese hotel, yet it only costs around $7000 yen per night.
Cons: It’s a bit far from tram station, the staff actually expect their guests to have a car as most of the guests would leave their car keys at the front desk.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Location easy access
Cons: The room is too small and expensive for family room even though location is not near city centre.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location near Suizenji Garden, fine breakfast, comfy bed and Japanese style room
Cons: On my check out day, every-time I contacted reception such as asked for my car’s key, asked direction to Suizenji, they always started with the issue of check out! It was a bit irritated that made me felt unwelcome and they were rushing me to check-out!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The personal was perfect and very hepfull with us. We were waiting for our luggage and they made all their possible to help us and make thé travel more comfortable.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: a kind of new/modern hotel decor in the way of old traditional hotel, new and comfortable. wonderful Japanese bathing room
Cons: a bit out of downtown Kumamoto, but nearby the Suizenji (traditional Japanese garden), better come with car

The hotel also provides free parking to guests who stay the night. We stayed in the Kumamon themed room which came with a free A4 folder, postcard and mineral water. Pros: Comfy and value for money.
Cons: No coin laundry. Need to pay for parking.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is really beautiful and you can see the castle really closely. The staff is really nice. The room is really comfortable.
Cons: The only minus point in my opinion is that there is no bus stop near the hotel. There is one not really far but if you carry a lot of luggage, it could be a hassle.
6.3 Good
Pros: Location was quite good although still a reasonable walk into town, the room was OK but not great, on arrival we asked to get a room with a view of the Castle but the reception staff didn't seem to be able to deal with this request, not because the hotel was busy but because a room had already been allocated and they couldn't be bothered to change the room.
Cons: Generally, not a great hotel.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Just near to the castle.
Cons: Nothing

6.7 Good
Pros: Great location next to the castle and very central, decent breakfast and friendly service. Fair amount of English spoken.
Cons: Bathrooms needed a major upgrade and room was super tight. Concierge gave a terrible recommendation for an izakaya - food was sub par and a lot of smoking - at least it was cheap and close.

Pros: Large room with extremely comfortable bed. Very friendly staff. Extremely clean room. Breakfast was excellent and parking right outside the hotel door. Perfect central location for exploring Kumamoto. We booked at short notice as the hotel we had booked was awful and then stayed an extra night due to a Typhoon coming in but theres was no trouble checking in or extending another night at all. Staff were brilliant.

Pros: The hotel is right across from the castle, about 10min walk from Kato's tomb. Its about 10min walk from the city Hall tram stop. The room was fine, all the basics were taken care of. The staff were friendly.
Cons: The hotel decor is a bit tired. It's hey day was probably a good many years ago. But everything (bar the spray in the toilet bowl) worked. So for me it was fine.
