Hiroki Taniguchi’s service was above and beyond! Upon arrival at the B hotel in Kobe, we realized that my husband had left his passport in our hotel in Tokyo. Hiroki Taniguchi took the initiative to 1) call the Tokyo hotel and arrange with them to express mail the passport to our next hotel in Kyoto as we were staying only 2 nights in Kobe; 2) then called our hotel in Kyoto to alert them and request that they advance payment for the express mail and hold the passport until our arrival. He did all this with a smile on his face. As I understand, hotels in Japan are required to have a copy of your passport on file by law. He was very gracious about our situation and arranged with the Kyoto hotel to ask our permission to fax a copy back to Kobe upon our arrival in Kyoto. He also gave us great advice about where to enjoy a Kobe beef meal and directions to attractions in the city. The B hotel is very comfortable - using the space most efficiently of all like hotels we stayed at in my opinion. Loved the location - easy access to subway, one stop from the main station; lots of restaurants and night life in the neighborhood. Great free coffee provided in the lobby.
Loved it all.
The breakfast was good, with plenty of variety and quality. The room was good, although typically crowded as is the case with most Japanese hotels. The beds were comfortable and the room was quiet (except for neighbours, see below). There's LOTS of restaurants nearby, most specialising in Kobe beef, unsurprisingly.
The bathroom was odd. There wasn't anywhere to hang a towel near the handbasin, and the shower was a bit cramped. The room temperature was too high and couldn't be adjusted. The door didn't block noise from the corridor and other rooms very well (and there were noisy guests across the hall). Kobe is a bit awkward for people travelling with a rail pass because the Shinkansen station (Shin-Kobe) is not in town, and you have to use the subway to get from there to where most of the hotels are. The subways and private lines are not covered by the rail pass. There's "transfer" gates at the Shinkansen station, but I don't understand their purpose, because your shinkansen ticket doesn't cover travel on the subway, so it's not a "transfer". Bear this in mind if you visit Kobe.
The hotel's location is conveniently traveling.
Aircondition has only three-level without mode selection.
The location was great, very near to the Sannomiya Station, many restos and cafes near by. Kobe Sauna is just accross the hotel. The room is small but clean and comfortable. The bathroom was uniques and bright yellow colour so it makes us fresher. The staff was really freindly and helpful despite limited English. When I asked for shoe shops for bigger size, she did her best to provide the information. There is a cappucino machine in the lobby area which is good to enjoy while waiting to be picked up by friends.
Good quality of toiletries but could have been better. The brush and shaver accoding to my husband are not comfortable to use. The sign to the hotel resto which is located downstairs was not visible enough.
