Check in it's at 3pm (not 10 as states in the booking). Doesn't have a lift so you have to go upstairs 2 floors. (This wasn't indicated at prior)
The location is great less than a 5 minute straight walk from the station. The beds are comfortable and conveniently have lockers in the capsule. The staff are helpful and the common area has a really helpful map detailing out points of interest.
The dormitory area is a bit cramped. The atmosphere inside the common area is very muted and quiet so it’s not a comfortable space to relax in. Feels almost like a library.
Location was excellent; close to the train station and walking distance to sights. If happy to walk, there is no need for the bus. Towels are provided fresh everyday. Free coffee and tea all through the day. Reception staff were helpful. Bed is firm and individual space is spacious. Definitely can get a good night’s sleep unless there are early risers in the dorm.
Not sure why I chose the mixed dorm; female dorm must have been sold out but there is a smell in the mixed dorm. It could be stinky smell of shoes and socks from rainy weather or just general male and female mix. I didn’t experience such a strong smell in previous female-only dorms in hostels that I’ve stayed at. Choose your shower cubicle carefully; not all cubicles have hanging space for towels and clothes.
The hostel uses mattress not futon so its more comfortable. They provide towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc. but not complementary toothpaste and toothbrush. Overall it's a good hostel for one or two nights stay.
The upper deck is too high and the stairs too steep. You really have to be careful if you stay in the upper deck. And the walls are thin, you can hear noise but they provide earplugs.
There were proper mattresses on the bed, which is good for those not used to sleeping on hard futons. The female only area was excellent - it provided a fully safe space for female travelers who need it. There's refreshments, a separate toilet/ shower, and the area is code locked. It's also a five minute walk from the main JR station.
The capsules were plasterboard and wood, so the slightest knock on the wall echoed. Free ear plugs are provided though! Only one small gripe - nothing to put your wash bag/ clothes on in the shower cubicles, I had to put my clothes on the floor.
