Shiroyama Hotel Kagoshima - Kagoshima - Bedroom
1
8.8 Excellent (6,254 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Shiroyama Hotel Kagoshima, you'll be centrally located in Kagoshima, a 3-minute drive from Kagoshima Arena and 7 minutes from Kagoshima Citizens' Culture Hall. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, a 24-hour front desk, and multilingual staff. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great view of the volcano....from hotel lobby and onsen. Excellent staff.
Cons: A bit dated.
3.1 Mediocre
Pros: The restaurants that we tried, Tempura Keiten and Sushitei Sakura, as well as Bakery Shiroyama were all excellent. The staff in all were great and the food was outstanding. The tempura was some of the best we had in Japan and the sushi was actually the best meal we had while in Japan. We liked the sushi place so much we went twice. The bakery has some really delicious breads, particularly the maple flavoured loaves, that we actually ended up getting every day for breakfast so that we could avoid going to the repulsive breakfast buffet. The shuttle bus makes it reasonable to stay here because the hotel is located on top of a hill that would make it difficult to get to without the shuttle bus. The shuttle bus makes several stops around Kagoshima allowing you to get to the main tourist and shopping areas pretty easily. Though it does take about 30 minutes to get from the hotel to the last stop by the ferry terminal.
Cons: The hotel is sorely in need of a major refurbishment and cleaning. Our room had a very uncomfortable bed that was lumpy and kept me awake more than asleep. The bathroom was actually dirty with hard water deposits and long term grunginess in the shower. The rug was similarly unpleasantly in need of a cleaning, as well. I was actually surprised by how unclean and run down the room was after reading some of the other reviews. The breakfast buffet was horrible, with Western food consisting of nothing but cold egg dishes (and not purposely cold). Sadly, even the Japanese items on the buffet were not well prepared. It all looked like leftovers from the night before. We ended up trying it twice and gave up in disgust and just started getting items from the bakery for breakfast every day.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Hot spring facility is wonderful and breakfast is o.k.
Cons: Only one door key provided. Not convenient for a couple who may go for hot spring separately.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The outdoor hot spring facing volcano is amazing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great facility!
Cons: None
9.0 Excellent
Pros: A very luxurious hotel.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff are great, once you come into the hotel, they will arrange staff that could speak your mother tongue language and make you feel at home and it is also convenient. The view is fantastic, it is the best place to view the volcano.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Shuttle bus very useful. Good sized room, lovely onsen and big breakfast. Get there early though as it does get very busy.
Cons: Crowded breakfast room.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location, with direct access to the station, was excellent. The view to the volcano allowed us to view it changing nature.
Cons: The room was very compact, but we were aware of this when booking
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We enjoyed our stay. Great breakfast and loved the extras touches such as children books. The view from the room of the volcano is unforgettable.
Cons: Shame there’s no onsen
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location, clean rooms, helpful staff
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was excellent in answering questions about restaurants and tourist sites.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location is good, breakfast is good, traffic is so convenient especially to airport, everything by walking distance
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Amazing location (you can’t miss the tall building, less than 5 mins from station) - compact and clean, spacious shower/bathtub - easy access to Lawson (just downstairs), Amy shopping centre, big Ferris wheel, City View bus stop - polite staff
Cons: room didn’t have USB port to charge phone, make sure your converter is for 2 prongs only. I found this out the hard way (my converter had 3 prongs), went to reception but unfortunately they didn’t have a converter for Aussie plugs (they were very apologetic). All good, just grab one from the Bic Camera store within the station
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Directly in front of the shinkansen station. The room is super modern and appointed beautifully. The bathroom is huge. Everything about the building and room is clean, modern, sophisticated.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very central and easy access by foot or tram from train station. Room was clean and of a good size. Staff super helpful.
Cons: A bit noisy, I could hear street noise but nothing from the other rooms.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great view from the breakfast restaurant of the volcano. More Asian breakfast than western (but that’s understandable as majority of people staying were Asian and good to try new food) Good location on the tram line and close to great shopping. Nice onsen
Cons: Shame they don’t offer a twin room with two single beds together as that’s what we needed (travelling as a family with a young child). Curtains were not effective at blocking out the light.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Central, easy access from train station. The room was clean and of a good size. The staff was very helpful
Cons: A bit noisy, street noise can easily be heard.
7.5 Good
Cons: The hotel is OK but it has two big Noes in my book. You can't open the window - no even a little - and the rooms have white light which is awful: its looks more a hospital room than a comfort room. Avoid if posible.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The view of Sakurajima from the breakfast restaurant alone is reason enough to stay at this hotel.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Rooms are slightly small as per Japanese hotels.
Cons: Nothing

Cons: None

Featured amenities include complimentary wired Internet access, dry cleaning/laundry services, and a 24-hour front desk. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Onsen hotel in town
Cons: English fluency at reception for only some staff
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Convenient location. Great tonkatsu across the street. Easy check out.
Cons: Onsen area felt overused and not comfortable. Changing room smelled musty. Washing area was very clean.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The onsen was great, the staff were friendly and polite, and the location was excellent.
Cons: The double room meant for 2 people features a tiny bed, up against the wall. Super uncomfortable for more than 1 person and shouldn't be advertised to sleep two guests. Our room was also really dusty, and when we arrived there were used house pyjamas (provided by the hotel) left in the wardrobe.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: A very good location, comfortable rooms, great view.
Cons: The staff is polite but quite formal, the room is comfortable but some extra features in the room are very contrived, like the massage chair and the pay per view films. We had breakfast in a makeshift location which seemed messy and somewhat unhygenic.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: I liked the hotel and room design. The bathroom and shower especially were new and large.
Cons: The room didn’t have much space for luggage.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Location. Proximity to shopping and restaurants. Close to bus and trolley lines.
Cons: Rooms were small, cramped. Lighting poor. As if they went for style over function. Tea only in rooms.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Good location Many tea for free, you can pick some at the lobby
Cons: The room and pillow are too small. I booked a double room, but the size pillow is suitable for children. The bathroom and the carpet are not clean enough. The refrigerator is small. It cannot storage fresh fruits.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The comfort. It does not pretend to be luxurious. However the hotel looks pretty new and the quality is excellent. It offers exactly what an exhausted traveler needs: Quietness, big comfortable bed, good hot shower, central location. And so many other small details that make the difference. We used once the restaurant besides the lobby and it was good. Still the hotel is right at the border of a district full of life (including nightlife) and restaurants. Also the historic places and the main train station are at walking distance.
Cons: The size of the room is rather reduced for western standards. But in the average for Japanese ones.

Pros: The Hotel was located very close to the ferry port..The room I had was big with a nice view on the sea front.
Cons: Problems of communication..the menu was presented to me in Japanese and nobody could explain what I would be eating. Internet restrictions only available in the reception area with a very short connection time. The Hotel had a stertile atmosphere...I was charged for the use of the small towel for the Onsen...
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was big and had a nice smell of new tatamis, the bath was really nice, all was good.
Cons: Just that I could not get the WiFi in the room but that is a small detail
7.5 Good
Pros: Breakfast and Dinner are good the location is great. walking distance from the pier.
7.9 Good
Pros: the facilities were so clean and well-maintained. When got in the room, I felt some smell like sour trees bc of Tatami.
Cons: About the smell of tatami, it’s authentic but little bit strong... The last order time in the hotel restaurant is by 19:30. But when I tried to order some menu at 19:32, they rejected... so I had to buy Bento at Lawson. I know they wanted to go back home on time but I think it’s very inconvenient for tourists since there are not many restaurants in Sakurajima..

Cons: There was no parking for our 8 seater car, as your staff reported that our car is too big to get into the car park. I remember we had to park in other car park which is about 7 minutes walk from the hotel, we needed to walk from the car park to the hotel on a rainy day,
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Kid kit was provided. The slippers are cute.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Location and the very pleasant staff
Cons: Everything good
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Location
Cons: Nil
4.0 Okay
Pros: I liked the breakfast with a good variety of japanese food. Something nice about Dormy Inn is that they have an onsen and that they offer complimentary noodle soup at night.
Cons: I had asked for a quiet room but the single rooms( or small double rooms , as they are also called) are all facing the main street. The first room I was given smell bad and the furniture was very worn out . Since it was facing the main street it was loud. After complaining I was given another room . This one was better kept and although it also faced the main street it seemed to have better windows and the traffic noise was not that disturbing. During my stay there was a traditional festival and I payed a lot of money for my stay . Actually it has been the most expensive room I have been in Japan during all my trips.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hotel gave us a Complementary birthday gift to my friend. Thanks very much to the hotel for the big surprise. What an unforgettable birthday celebration. The self service check out and payment service is a merit.

We took the option with breakfast which made us feel exceptional, lots of staff serving japanese breakfast + private breakfast place just for us two and lots of food. Very great place to stay
5.0 Okay
Pros: The location is good, and the staff is nice.
Cons: The room is not very comfortable and there was a bad in the bathroom. Too expensive for what is offered.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Amazing room, very large and confortable. Love the japanese style.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was traditional Japanese, so for me took me out of my comfort zone and was a trial by taste and texture; I'm still not certain what everything I ate was, but it pushed my boundaries. The room was ryokan style and would apparently sleep four, but possibly four adults would find it a little tight. The staff were superb and very friendly. The in house onsen was a pleasant surprise, and very clean.
Cons: Not a lot to be frank!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Clean, near to shops and restaurants, good service.
Cons: Onsen bath not that good compared to others.
7.5 Good
Pros: Large Japanese style room Nice Onsen cloth (typical Japanese) Employees come to install beds for you in the evening
