Pros: The staff were friendly and very helpful. The communal areas were well thought out and relaxing, although it’s worth noting the lack of private onsen.
Cons: The bathroom was extremely hot, small and tired. The ryokan doesn’t really cater for vegetarian or pescatarians. Food and drink was expensive.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: everything, especially the design touches
Cons: no western breakfast option, though our last morning we were given orange juice

10.0 Excellent
Pros: True, it is a bit expensive. Even more true: you will not regret it! An authentic ryokan experience in a quiet onsen town from where you can explore the Japanese countryside. The rooms are big and have all the amenities you are looking for, including a private bathtub and a choice of nice yukatas you can wear to go outside the property. The onsen are spectacular and the food is delicious and a lot. Recommended.

Pros: Excellent place! the staff cant be nicer and more helpful. Perfect location in a beautiful city of Shuzenji, spacious traditional room, AMAZING food (booked with breakfasts at and dinners on all days of my stay and that was the best choice ever!!), comfy hot springs - each men’s and women’s had a choice of indoors or outdoors (“fashion” tattoos, as they called them, are allowed). I’m definitely going back and recommending the place to friends!

Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, multilingual staff, and luggage storage. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available on request), and free self parking is available onsite.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: 1. Good service. The staff is very polite and very nice! The Japanese staff Yamada's service was very professional and helpful. I was confused the traffic from Haneda Airport to the hotel before I arrived at the hotel. Yamada explained in detail in the email. During my stay in the hotel, she always help me to check the scenic spot traffic including bus schedule, and help me to arrange the shuttle bus from the hotel to the bus station. There is a Chinese staff Mr. Kong working in the hotel, he helped me a lot too. In addition, thanks a lot for the shuttle bus transfer service. 2. Good quality of Japanese food. The traditional Japanese food is provided in the hotel. The plate is very delicate. Everyday they change the menu. 3. Good private bath/hot spring. The hotel provides private bath reservation. That is very convenient for a couple who would like to have a bath together. 4. Quite Stay. I slept very good during my stay in the hotel. Very quite environment. 5. Very traditional Japanese style hotel. The waiter will pave the tatami for you everyday.
Cons: 1. The traffic from the Haneda International Airport to the hotel is not very convenient. There is limited number of JR from Tokyo to the Suzenshi Station directly every day. I remember the last JR departs at 12:05 noon from Tokyo station to the Suzenshi station. If your flight is later than that time, the traffic would be a little bit complicated. I took the Shinkansen and JR from Haneda Airport to Tokyo (1 transfer), then take Shinkansen from Tokyo to Mishima station, and then transfer the train from Mishima station to Suzenshi station. There is about 20 minutes drive from Suzenshi station to the hotel, I recommend you to take a taxi if you have a big luggage. Otherwise, you can take the bus from No. 5 bus station to YUGASHIMA bus station. Call the hotel then they can pick you up from YUGASHIMA bus station. I spent 4 hours from the Haneda Airport to the hotel. 2. Japanese food. Although I love Japanese food, if everyday eat the traditional Japanese food, that would be a problem:-). It looks very similar as the Kaiseki, very delicate. If you are not a fans of traditional Japanese food, please communicate with the hotel in advance. They could help to prepare improved meals based on your taste. That is really nice. 3. There is no restaurant nearby.
8.8 Excellent

10.0 Excellent

Pros: Ochiairo Murakami is very traditional with a touch of modern which I really enjoyed. The baths were lovely and very relaxing. We had them to ourselves which was nice. The food was amazing. The staff was very attentive. They even drove us to the station, made sure we made it on the bus and asked the bus driver to look after us and make sure we got off at the right stop.
Cons: Our bathroom was across the hall which make it a little awkward to go to in the middle of the night.

Pros: Hotel is surrounded with a great nature. Free shuttle from the station, friendly staff, many games like pingpong, darts and even sega. Hotel has some surprises: they turned off light at dinner time and gave us desserts with candles. Also they have a game with chopsticks where you can win free night.
Cons: Humidity in the room. Only 1 man from staff knows English and he was really helpful. It might be difficult to stay without his help.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff. Very good service provided.
Cons: I did not realise it's a Balinese style hotel when I book it, it was not what I expected cause the website did not say it. I prefer traditional Japanese onsen.

Featured amenities include complimentary wired Internet access, a 24-hour front desk, and luggage storage. 7.9 Good
Pros: The location is very convenient. Basically all the sightseeing spots in Shusenji are within walking distance. The Ryokan is very clean and beautifully designed. We love the waterfront and the stage setting particularly. Every evening a staff would ride a boat and place floating lights onto the water, making the view especially poetic.
Cons: The bathing area at Asaba was too small and bathing facilities are quite limited compared to other luxury onsen Ryokans around Ito. There was only one public open-air bath available and the pool was quite small. If you are in Ito to experience relaxing Japanese onsen, then Asaba is probably not the best choice.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Japanese style hotel with oneson, fantastic food with good dining environment.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: the nature , the exeptional garden , the ambience, the view , the onsen , the staff . The decoration of the ryokan very zen. Everything was incredible. The small village is nice for walks and with the bicycle you can discover the surroundings.
Cons: nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The entire service is fabulous! Hospitality is one of the best I have ever experienced. And it is really quiet. I love the different choices of hot springs facilities we can use. Massage is a plus:)
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great staff. Good room. Very clean.
Cons: We have had better food in other ryokans. Inconvenient to rest after tatamis are stored away. Family onsen too much occupied and only one family onsen is available, the other one was locked all the time.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The waterfront setting was incredible, the area charming, and the included meals were some of the best I’ve had in Japan—a level above other luxury ryokans I’ve stayed in. More emphasis on delicious small seasonal dishes than some places that focus on never-ending courses.
Cons: There is only one open-air onsen so men & women will need to use the indoor facilities outside of their designated hours (unlike places that have two and you swap between them). The one they have is lovely though.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very quiet and peaceful surroundings. Superb food.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: the natural surroundings were amazingly beautiful ... the up keep of the hotel matched the surroundings. Very relaxing and calm. A genuine traditional ryokan with modern touches, such as good internet in all areas of the property I was in.
Cons: Can't think of anything negative.

2.5 Mediocre
Pros: BAD REVIEW :) I’ll make it as short and informative for those who consider staying here. I left a room key at the onsen (public bath) and learned about it only the next morning at the check-out. I informed the front-desk manager about it asking him to locate it so it could be returned to the Hotel. And that’s when the circus began. The guy became very angry and muttered through clenched teeth that the staff had cleaned the onsen in the morning and had not find any key otherwise it'd been returned to the front desk and added that we'd lost it somewhere else outside the premises (I guess he used a crystal ball to make such assumption). He was basically accusing us of lying. At that point my husband and I tried to accommodate the hotel so I began unpacking all of our luggage to check if by accident the key ended up inside of one of our suitcases. Of course, it did not. Meanwhile the manager was getting more upset already screaming at us. At first he said that it cost $20,000 US to replace the key, then he changed it to 20,000 yen and was forcing us to pay this amount threatening to call the police if we'd not oblige. We refused to do that. His emotions were all over the place and it was getting clear to us that in his mind we were criminals while he was playing a role of a “policeman” with his only objective to prove that we were lying to him about the key. He indeed informed us he's going to call the police at that time. It all was absolutely surreal, like in a horror movie. We weren't prepared for that, after all it was supposed to be a "relaxing" place:). So I went to the onsen myself. Glad I did since the key was right there, laying on top of an open shelf and we have a witness to that. (Continued below)
Cons: After the manager realized the key was found on the premises right where we were saying it had been left, he hid behind the curtain in another room and would not come out. We assumed he got scared of the consequences of his extremely rude and obscene behavior. We finally got him out of his room, although he was still hiding behind a staff-lady's back. The guy began saying some apologies so we took out the phone and switched on the video mode since we wanted to record them. After we did that he stopped apologizing and said that he would not apologize and it was not his fault but of his staff which failed to locate the key. At that point it was very clear to us that talking to him was absolutely useless. We left the Hotel. I am sure that everything was recorded on the video cameras in the reception area and TKP Corporation, as the Hotel’s owner, will have no problems to see the physical evidence to my words. Photo of the manage is enclosed below. PS. I would highly recommend NOT to send your elderly parents to this place unless you want them in the early grave. It was difficult to withstand such hostility even for such strong-minded adults as us. Elderly people would not manage :(( PPS. Unfortunately, we have not been contacted by the Hotel with explanations and apologies.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was my favourite accommodation in my two weeks in Japan. I felt like I visiting family that I had not met before. This feeling lasted from the time I enter until I was walked out the front door at my departure. I had not pre-ordered dinner, but I was offered the chance to purchase it when I arrived. While my person dinner was being prepared I had the chance so clean up and soak in their private onsen. It was very clean with nice stone work. Dinner was delicious! There were too many dishes to mention and it was my first traditional Japanese meal so I would not be able to name. Breakfast was a just as good as dinner, but a few less dishes. The rooms, lobby area, and common spaces were nicely decorated and very clean and neat. The location is great. It is very close to the Amagi National Park and Kawazu Falls areas.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Cheap stay
Cons: Location is bit off
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing setting, right by the river and on a really well-served bus route. Perfect base for visiting Yugashima, the Amagi Pass and amazing inland Izu. Really comfortable accommodation, the room had everything and was really warm on a Winter's night. The service was excellent, we were given full kitchen access which we really needed as the number of eating options locally are limited in the evenings. The private hot baths opens out onto the beautiful river and mountain across the way.
Cons: Nothing. Perfect accommodation.

Pros: Great place with a lovely staff and a very nice Onsen =)
Cons: Finaly we would have liked to have supper at the Hotel, but unfortunately we did not order this in advance. We therefore had to find a place by car : though we almost missed it, we made it!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast and the dinner served are extraordinary. Because the cost is in medium range so I didn't expect too much. But it turn out highly above my expectation. The room space is huge, compared to ones in Tokyo or similar citites. The environment is quiet and relaxing, there's a river just close to the window and you can enjoy the sound day and night. The staff is friendly and helpful. I enjoy a wonderful stay there.
Cons: Although there is little difficult in communicating with the staff, but their English still can be improved! And, the location! If you arrive by a bus, be careful with the timetable! Best way to arrive there is rent a car. Free parking lot provided.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: A nice Japanese style lodging with supermarkets and convenient stores near by. Need to access by car. Room is very clean and comfortable, with two family types onsen/baths.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was amazing. Beautiful interior and the private onsen tub was fantastic with amazing view of mountains and coast. Water was hot but controllable when needed.
Cons: It’s a bit far from New York.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Our room had a nice view overlooking bay.
Cons: Room is a bit dated.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Food is good, staffs are friendly
Cons: Not very clean, too far away from famous spots
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The room was spacey and had a nice sea view (I believe the ryokan is built so that all rooms have sea view). The onsen's nice and modern, with a pleasant outdoors bath. Friendly and accommodating staff.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The onsen was pleasant.
Cons: Booked 5 days before visiting and received a message from them asking for more information about our group and asking if we wanted to do the meal plan. We weren't sure of our plans so didn't do the meal plan assuming we could take meals on an ad hoc basis but not be tied into full or half board. Upon arrival we learnt we could not have any meals, even breakfast, during our stay. We were told to use the convenience store nearby instead. Bearing in mind our 2night stay cost over 1000usd this was unacceptable. Also the rating on booking.com was 4star and the hotel was actually only 2 star. Beware of the lift.... it doesn't have sensors and is very very quick to close the doors. The hotel is directly opposite the ferry terminal so felt very industrial.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Delicious dinner and breakfast
Cons: Hot water stops in the morning

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Every single detail was perfect. The people who run the ryokan are very kind and patient. You ca tell they really enjoy helping you learn the ryokan etiquette.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The food experience was among the best I had while living for three years. Definitely worth the money.
Cons: The view was almost perfect if it was not for an abandoned building across the river. The balcony was also a bit dirty and rundown which spoils the nice view of the river.
7.5 Good
Pros: Everything, the atmosphere, the onsen and the kindness of the staff most of all.
4.6 Okay
Pros: This hotel is very run down and doesn’t look anything like the website. I would pay about $120 per night to stay there, but they charge over $700 per room. That is insanity. I will save the Hot Springs are nice, but everything else was a total catastrophe. I would not recommend this place to anyone and I will never go back there. PS this is the first review I’ve ever written about a hotel my experience was that Memorable.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Breakfast and dinner were pretty delicious. Especially the fresh grated wasabi.
Cons: It is not well maintained and not clean. A cockroach run across my face during my sleep. I found it the next morning.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: An extremely friendly staff who treat you like a king. it's located in an beautiful peaceful area with very comfortable rooms and baths. the food is also out of this world and an experience even for Japanese people. most. certainly coming back. but do learn some Japanese words or have a translation problem program as English is very limited in this area. rooms are also very large. standard alone consists of 6 rooms. already including toilet room. The outside garden is also very beautiful. I cannot place enough pictures to do this place justice.
7.1 Good
Pros: Fantastic building with great food.
Cons: Virtually no one speaks English.

5.0 Okay
Pros: We booked the hotel because of the view and that was definitely nice. Breakfast was very Japanese and I can imagine difficult for Europeans. The hotel provided transport to the station and in the evening they dropped us at a close by restaurant. Overall the staff was really nice and helpful. Some spoke very good English.
Cons: The windows were very dirty and in order to really appreciate it you had to stand on the small balcony outside. The entire hotel and specifically the room was really run down. Carpet showed a lot of stains, wall tapestry peeled of. The entire property is an a desperate need of an overhaul.
7.5 Good
Pros: The view was extraordinary, and the rooms were large and easy to relax in. The hotel would have been great in it hay day, as is still lovely compared to others in the area. The public bathing areas were large, clean and very warm.
Cons: Yes, it was a traditional Ryokan, but the beds were uncomfortable, but I suppose it is expected if you are used to mattresses.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything is prefect
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The sea view is amazing
Cons: I found one woman brought mobile inside the hot spring room, but no staff there, that was unacceptable.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Highly recommended if you are looking for a traditional hotel in a small and quiet village in the beach.
Cons: The location, as it is difficult to reach.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is near the beach. Staff are friendly and helpful.
Cons: The lobby has no sufficient aircon.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Its a truly ryokan room and with the beach view. Great and with a lot of space. The hotel has an onsen and transfer to Izu Atagawa Station. The staff is very friendly and helpful. A great experience. Would come back, specially if the restaurant were opened.
Cons: Its a great place, but the restaurant wasnt opened. No ryokan meals.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff very helpful. Dinner was excellent. Breakfast could be better.
Cons: My sister was bite from bed bug. And mosquito bite me.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: An elegant Japanese tatami room with private onsen bath and nice outdoors onsen facing the sea. We came in Feb.and therefore no beach activities. All staffs are nice and helpful. All rooms facing and seeing ocean. Call to get free suttle ride from and to Atagawa station. Only 5-10 minutes walk to the station, without luggage. Like the tranquility and elegance of the hotel. A good choice to get to visit Kawazu cheery festival.
Cons: No shops were open in the neighborhood in the winter time we visited.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The location on the beach, the beach view from the room (610), the perfection of the service, the quality of the traditional Japanese room, the Onsen (in and outdoor), the candle festival and the fireworks on the beach (April 20).
Cons: We tried the typical Japanese dinner and breakfast, very well served in a private room, with excellence in the presentation and in the variety... just not our taste though (but nothing to do with our hosts).
