Best Hobart hotels near Playhouse Theatre
A STORYTELLING HOTELThe sea breeze that whistles along Hunter Street on Hobart's waterfront carries a thousand captivating stories of those that were here before us - a cast of remarkable characters, each with an intriguing story to tell. In this very place, the Mouheneenner people fished and forged dreams in the shallows of the River Derwent; the first Europeans set foot ashore Van Diemen's Land and an industry was borne amid the bustling thoroughfare of Hunter Island. Today, this precinct is home to MACq 01 where the stories of these colourful characters are shared in a setting of informal luxury. This is a storytelling hotel.

Pros: It is wonderful for a group. The communal spaces can't be beaten. The all-day treats are generous and the breakfast is beautiful. The bathroom seemed to have been recently renovated. The staff are very good indeed.
Cons: We stayed here a few years ago and it was perfect. However, now the furnishings are looking tired and the garden neglected when it should be at its peak-it's Spring. There was a stain on our valance and much of the upholstery needs recovering or a clean, as do the rugs. For the price, I expect better.

Pros: The door lock working at one touch, which is wonderful, never seen this happen before elsewhere. I also like the bath room which is clean and bright.

A range of teas supplied in rooms and wonderful toiletries. The bar downstairs is gorgeous with a nice selection of drinks and a happy hour on friday afternoon until 6pm.
Cons: Parking is not in the building and is an extra charge. Can't be helped as there is no underground carpark in heritage building. Not too far to walk though.

Pros: Nice building with old colonial flavor
Cons: Continental breakfast hasn't much selection
9.2 Excellent
Pros: 10 minutes walk from the city center and 10 minutes walk to the Saturday market. The room is big and very comfortable. Staff were nice and helpful.
Cons: The WiFi was spotty in the room. The bed is also a little too soft.
6.3 Good
Pros: The location and comfort of the apartment including the size and self catering facilities.
Cons: There was only one mirror in the whole apartment and also the lack of sheer curtains on the windows which would have been helpful with privacy. Our apartment faced houses across the road which were on the same level.
6.3 Good
Pros: Staff were very helpful.
Cons: I arrived at around 8:45 pm, and I was told that the kitchen was closed.
5.7 Okay
Pros: Location - it was in the heart of the city and walking distance to the harbour-front, Salamanca Place which made it very convenient.
Cons: View from the windows - from the 4th floor we could not see outside because windows were either facing skywards, or they were at waist level and we had to crouch to look outside. Even then, the view was blocked because building features where right in front of window. Also TV's were old tube style - in this day and age we expected to have at least a 42" flat screen....
8.0 Excellent
Pros: the staff went above and beyond to make my stay great. so friendly and helpful in every area.
Cons: carparking was short, but they did give me alternatives which was great
6.0 Good

Pros: The staff were excellent and the hotel was interesting. The room was very comfortable.
4.4 Okay
Pros: We enjoyed the location of the hotel because it was very easy to get around.
Cons: I felt the word "superior room" was very over rated, I felt like it was no more than a standard room. The mat in the shower/bath was discusting I would expect to see that standard in a hotel in the back of Australia. The cups were not washed and someone had used the sample bottle of moisturizer and put it back. The tables in the foyer had definetly not been wiped down for quite a long time as there were glass marks and dirt all over it which was very obvious when the light was on it.
7.6 Good
Pros: Convenient to central Hobart and sights

Pros: The location is very good, right in the middle of Hobart this was a convenient stay for all attractions. The staff were very helpful, each morning we listed the things we were hoping to do and they gave us directions and some helpful tips.
Cons: This was a very expensive stay for what it was. While the photos make this hotel seem grand, on arrival it is a very small lobby on street level and the rooms are adequate. While this is in a good location, for the price there are better options.
7.5 Good
Pros: It's a two person room. How about two chairs?
Cons:

Pros: We booked a room with a harbour view. The room was a good size, very clean and well equipped. The location was on the eastern end of Salamanca Place on Battery Point. Being slightly elevated the view over the harbour was excellent. It took barely a minute to walk down to the restaurants and shops of Salamanca and probably 10 minutes to walk to the main shopping streets. Also there was free parking on sight which was convenient.

Pros: We booked a two-bedroom apartment and were lucky to stay in room 134 on the ground floor. We had plenty of space, a full laundry and kitchen and a spare toilet. Admittedly the view was over the carpark, but we weren't there to look out the windows! We slept well - bed was comfy and the room surprisingly quiet despite being near a major intersection. During the first night we noticed the ensuite door squeaked horribly. (Why are noises always louder in the dark?) The next morning, we asked for this to be hit with the WD40 and the batteries changed in the video and TV remotes (they were failing) and both tasks were accepted with a smile and completed while we were out. Room service was good, and room service staff smiling and welcoming on the rare occasions when we did see them. We enjoyed the restaurant and the wonderfully named Baaa Bar, but really enjoyed the ambience of the place: a ramped hallway all the way to our room (not a single stair to be negotiated!), and the preserved walls, doors and other original woolstore architecture were just magnificent. Would definitely stay here again.

Cons: We found the studio apartment room to be drab, underwhelming and uninspiring. Definitely not worth the cost. Rooms and fixtures are dated. It was not a pleasant room to spend time in. Pros: Like the location.
Cons: The mattress on the bed was terrible. Supposed to be a queen, but was to smaller beds pushed together. The mattress was old
And uncomfortable with a new pillow top on it. Might as well have got a room with two singles. Informed staff at checkout that didn't seem to care at all. Probably the last time I'll stay there. Disappointing.

Staff and hotel is well equipped for a stay with Family. Did not take the food facilities available ie Breakfast and Dinner, But communication with Staff was pleasant. Cons: Nothing that i would like to mention, but if being picky then the stairs and access to room in the main tower was cramped. Cons:

Pros: We loved the historical elements of the property. The property has lots of character. The staff were very nice and helpful. Provides us with a toothbrush kit because we forgot our own.
Cons: When we first arrived there were 2 flies in the room. I am a bit sensitive with insects so I got rid of them straight away. However apart from this everything was fine.

Pros: The room was one of the best I have stayed in, the bed was super comfy and the staff were lovely.
Cons:
1.0 Poor
Pros: The location. The reception staff. Nothing else.
Cons: Bed was very uncomfortable to the extent that it gave me significant back pain. The bed was never made, only have the cover pulled up. The sheets were never changed. The towels were very thin and fraying. The rubbish bin was not emptied daily. The floors were not vacuumed. The only meal that we had in the restaurant was a 90-minute wait after ordering and was overcooked.

Pros: The breakfast was amazing, good selection of food and good quality. The second room was clearly one of those that had been refurbished, identical in layout but a better bathroom - I enjoyed my stay from the second night onwards.
Cons: The first room I was in was dusty, the fridge had frozen items, a lamp wouldn't stay on and the shower head was broken so felt like I was showering under a hose. There was nowhere to put the jug when plugged in, either the bedside cabinet or floor.

Cons: No plugs for kettle or hairdryer, traffic was difficult in Hobart
2.0 Mediocre
Pros: The bed was super comfy
Cons: I was disappointed by the lack of parking for whilst we were checking in. Even more disappointed and annoyed that I had to pay $10 for one night of parking on top of the $320 we already had to pay for staying a single night. Got locked out of our room for almost half an hour, and felt like a burden when we made 3 trips down to reception about it. The room was clean and tidy, but not as nice as we expected it be.

Pros: Loved Angie. She was so helpful. We were originally placed in a room near the elevator (which was under construction). She helped us move (and because we were in a hurry and needed to leave the property quickly, she even moved our belongings and luggage for us). we came back to a new room with all our things nicely laid out and very nice gift with a note to apologize for the original inconvenience. Very kind and professional.

Pros: Good location and easy to get to most places in Hobart.
Comfortable bed, fridge in room, flat screen tv.
100mb of free internet
Breakfast (additional charge) on first floor was a convenient hot buffet with many options.
Cons: No safe in room.
Elevators/lifts are under renovation (as of Feb 2016). Only one was operational which meant it took a long time. Stairs were a much better option.
100mb of free internet goes pretty quickly
5.0 Okay
Pros: Good view. Reasonable location. Cleanliness.
Cons: WiFi is horrible. The connection kept being disconnected. It also had very poor bandwidth. I have never had such a bad hotel WiFi experience before. Our room was also very small, barely enough to put two luggages.

Pros: Tidiness, quiet place even when you have a pub downstairs. Smells good, most of the rooms have natural light. Close to everything in the CBD. Friendly staff.
Cons: Common spaces aren't enough for the capacity of the hostel. Small tv room nd the same for dinning tables.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Liked the location. Like the price. Liked the responsiveness of the staff
Cons: Didn't like the charging sockets are so low to the ground one cannot plug their adaptors. Literally so low no adaptor will fit. Maybe do something about that
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Close to Battery Point which we explored on foot the next day.
Cons: Misleading - advertised parking turned out to be on-street parking till 8:30am next morning. We chose to park in a nearby Secure parking facility as we had a hire car.
2.0 Mediocre
Pros: The location is convenient- a short walk to the city and an easy walk to Salamanca.
Cons: The toilets and showers are mixed male and female and they are fairly sketchy at best.
There is no kitchen or TV room or general meeting area exclusively for people staying in the hostel.
The dorms are mainly mixed - there is a fenale dorm but no male only dorm.
The hot water is difficult to regulate in showers - I was cold in summer, I can only imagine gow cold it is in winter.
