The hotel is quietly situated in the hills just outside Heidelberg's city centre. There is a lovely patio/garden area where you can enjoy drinks offered by the hotel bar (or breakfast in the morning.) Rooms are spacious, nice firm mattresses, and very quiet. Parking is available either in the courtyard or on the street next to the hotel. Breakfast was nice, fresh pretzels!
The hotel is beautifully located and my room was gloriously quiet and had a wonderful forest view. There was a garden terrace just outside, and overall the hotel's charming styling was a welcome change to the many prefab and 'cold' places I've seen. The staff were wonderful too. As I was travelling by myself, feeling at home was all the more important.
Google Maps doesn't seem to have a very tight grasp of pedestrian routes in the very hilly area around the hotel (not the hotel's fault, obviously!). As the castle gardens are open all night, contrary to what GM might think, it's not necessary to look for alternative routes to get back.
Hotel was in a very quiet location on a hill above Heidelberg. The main building seemed to have been a former residence. It was in lovely grounds with several places you could sit and relax. Not sure if there were guest rooms in the main building where there was reception and breakfast. The breakfast was in a lovely area and was very good with fresh fruit, cereals, breads, cold meats, cheeses etc. Our room was in an adjacent building. The room was a little old fashioned but nice and spacious. The hotel was only 20 minutes walk from Heidelberg Castle and a 13 Euro taxi ride from the old bridge in the old town. The rooms were nice and quiet. We heard no noise from other guests.
The road up to the hotel was narrow, winding and steep. Parking was very limited. Space for about 4 cars at the hotel and some marked parking along the narrow road outside. I think there was a parking structure that you could park in just overnight that belonged to another business. The shower was over the bath tub that was very slippery with no anti-slip mat. The shower curtain needed replacing.
Good breakfast, comfortable bed. Perfect location for visiting the castle.
No evening meal available which is a shame. The walk into Heidelburg for an eveving meal was just a little too strenuous for some people. The hotel was poorly signed and difficult to find.
We were there during a heatwave. As the hotel has no airconditioning nor ventilators it was extremely hot in our room (30+) which was not nice to sleep in. It is not always that hot of course but providing a ventilator would have helped.
