Located on the top of a parking garage, the hotel has an unconventional location that results in great views of the river and the castle. Each room has access to a shared balcony. Staff readily accommodated our request to stay an additional day
The location was good.
The booking we had was for an apartment . In fact it was 2 bedrooms with a communicating kitchenette. There was no commune area (dining table, sofa) in the apartment . How was it called an apartment is a wonder. To keep the bedrooms’ super heavy door open, we had to use a chair, which then prevent easy passage. The worst was the bathroom. It was basic but what really put us off is the strong drain smell that permeates into one of the bedrooms. The breakfast was very simple and basic. No hot dishes. The parking is located right under the hotel but you don’t receive much discount from staying there. The parking spaces are tiny, so it’s very difficult to get out of the car. Maybe 30 cm in between cars.
The location was very good. Just within walking distance to all tourist attractions and shopping. There are plenty of restaurant nearby. Breakfast was good.
On check in, the receptionist insisted that we booked 1 single room only when we booked 1 single and 1 double room and have prepaid for it. She refused to look at the receipt from booking.com but only at her computer system. Eventually, she found my booking for the double room. There is no wifi reception in the room and a very weak wifi at the breakfast room. We went down to the train station to access to the free and powerful wifi. There is no kettle although they claimed that we could ask for one when check in as mentioned in our enquiry. They only provide hot water. Upper floor access by stairs only.
It was the second time we stayed at Hotel am Schloss. The location is excellent - very easy to drive in and out. The facility and staff could not be better. It is an excellent place to stay in Heidelberg!
Breakfast was excellent, from great coffee to many food choices. The lady that greeted us every morning for breakfast was very pleaseant and very accommodating. The location couldn’t have been better with the parking garage underneath and the access to the funicular up to the Schloss Heidelberg Castle to Königstuhl is located on the 1st floor of the parking garage. Thanks to many reviews before us regarding the parking lot being quite tight, we decided to bring our small car and had no issues. You are in walking distance to a lot of the main attractions, shopping, restaurants and café shops. The staff were very friendly and gave suggestions to local restaurants. We found the rooms bright, clean, quiet, the bed was comfortable, except for the “twin” for the child, it was a little on the hard side. If adventurous you can take a walk along the Philosophenweg, then continue up through vineyards and into the forest, opening to occasional views of the city and Neckar Valley. Continue further up to Bismarck tower, up to the where the ruins of Michaelskloster, the Monastery of St. Michael, and the adjoining Thingstätte is an amphitheater, and at the top is also the Heiligenberg Aussichtsturm, an old observation tower.
The "twin" bed for the children is ok for a couple of nights, but not very comfortable. We would stay here again, and recommend it.
