A retreat in the truest sense of the word! We arrived and were greeted by a very friendly lady who explained everything, showed us the ryokan and made sure we were comfortable with the sometimes intimidating customs of Japan. Moreover, one of us has celiac disease and although beforehand we inquired and got a hesitating response, we were pleasantly surprised that a completely gluten-free kaiseki dinner was arranged! Superb!
Definitely a good experience for a traditional Japanese inn. The staff were exceptional and will go out of their way to help you and make your stay exceptional. Koge served our dinner and he was very informative and helpful. I highly recommend the place, and try to get the room with private onsen if possible. If not they have onsens that guest can enjoy privately for 45 mins.
Convenience store across the street in case you need anything. Staff were very kind and friendly. The private outdoor onsen was very serene and relaxing.
You have to take a 45 minute bus from the train station to get to the place, however it is very close from the bus stop (2 minute walk). It is a small place, very minimal furnishings and utilities.
Exceeded our expectations for a Rikyan, with great onsen facilities, amazing food, great staff and lots of opportunity for a relaxed time.
Excellent spacious room with very attentive staff and a relaxing atmosphere. It was like being in another world. The private spa was great. The dinner and breakfast was delicious. We had no need to eat lunch on our visit to Hakone because we were so full!
