Amazing experience, from the moment we arrived to be greeted at the car door with umbrellas, through to the time we left after one of the most gracious checkout experiences we've had, the level of service / attentiveness didn't drop once. The property is in a great location at the bottom of Lake Hakone, with views out across the water (you might even be able to see Mount Fuji on a clear day), and the rooms spacious and well appointed - the futon beds were also really comfortable, which was a pleasant surprise! The food, both dinner and breakfast, was of a really high standard, and beautifully presented, and they were also able to accommodate our request for vegetarian meals, which were delicious. Last, but not least, the onsen (there are 2) were wonderful, and available to use privately from evening until early morning (otherwise are public / gender segregated) - you can't book, you just have to check if it's free, but there was nobody in either when we went after dinner, which was perfect!

It is a little bit expensive (although it was one of the better value options available), however it was definitely worth it in my opinion for such a wonderful experience.

Food is exceptional. Service of this highest quality. Good English spoken which is still rarity in Japanese ryokans.

Road to the ryokan is very steep, not recommended for people who have health problems. This is one of the top inns around Hakone, hardly to criticize anything.

The open bath is wonderful

Cleanliness, friendly staff, peaceful and serene setting. Japanese dinner and breakfast served in our room were delicious. Food and presentation of all the dishes were outstanding. Our host Murakami-San was also outstanding with the service of both meals. He was very friendly, courteous and very personable.

There weren’t anything we did not like.
