Pros: Jokura has a lovely homey feel. The owners are very friendly & try very hard to ensure you have a great stay. Wonderful location, close to the ropeway & to the historical sites.
Cons: Bed was firm by western standards
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner so nice and the place so unique with their collections
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hosts were extremely friendly and helpful. Even gave us a lift to the station in the morning at 5.30am!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hospitality of the two host was incredibly thoughtful and kind. Like the other reviews they were very attentive and kind, and went beyond with what is usually expected from a BnB/guesthouse. The house itself is delightfully decorated, and you can tell that it is a home. The room was bigger than we thought, and the futon was incredibly comfortable. I particularly enjoyed the big bath, which is available to use after 7pm. The next day they kindly gave us a lift to the station, without us even asking, and presented us with a wonderful gift. Highly recommend and hopefully will stay again.
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly owners and beautiful house. Clean room and perfect location!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Authentic Japanese feel, lovely hosts, great location
Cons: Nothing, all good
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hosts were absolutely lovely and helped us a lot to find back my backpack that I had left in the bus ( :-o ) He took a car and brought us to the bus terminal (took more than an hour) ! They also helped us organize our trip in Hirodate. The house is decorated lovely ! Location is perfect in the old district, bus / tram stop very close.
Cons: Perfect stay !
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owners were very friendly. Unfortunately I do not speak Japanese but they made me feel very welcome and comfortable. It isn't a hotel but I wanted something more personal and this is what I got. It was very central for what I needed to do. I enjoyed my stay very much. I will be going back next year if I have to travel again.
Cons: As mentioned, not a hotel so more like bed and breakfast but perfect for me. There was nothing I disliked, very clean and comfortable.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The house and room are clean and the hosts are very friendly.
Cons: Nothing so far!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: I didn't try the breakfast, but the facilities in the room and the host's attitude impressed me a lot, the location is also very good, which is close to lots of landmarks there. Last but not least, the host drove us to JR station, that was a surprise. And I remember it rained heavily in the morning, but he drove us safely to the station, much appreciated his help.
Cons: My friend - Cherry left her doll - a very cute Monchhichi which was bought in Okinawa besides the pillow on the bed, what's pity, she emailed to the host, but the feedback was they didn't see this doll. But she did leave this doll on the bed and was willing to bear the delivery cost. Anyway, it was a pity during the trip.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good view and comfortable atmosphere. If seeking for tradition ryokan, this is quite the one in Hakodate.
Cons: the kaiseiki dinner can be improved
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Truly wonderful staff and the most beautiful meals.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful facilities, very friendly staff, food was beautiful (very elegant, high end Japanese)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful facility- every part was traditional Japanese- architecture/food/service, but with every modern amenity. Super-attentive staff. The lobby alone is a monument to Japanese style- it is matched in every part of the hotel. The dining room is on the ground floor-fantastic- with views of the ocean. Kaiseki dinner and breakfast were superb. You will want to take pictures - even before you eat. (And I’m not a millennial who Instagrams his meals). The Japanese bath was well appointed- and divided into two parts, one inside, and one outside. From the outside portion you can hear the surf and relax. A romantic little place surrounded by larger- and probably standard hotels.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Exceptional service from very helpful staff who went out of their way to make our stay a happy and pleasurable experience e.g. programming Japanese SatNav; walking with us to a local restaurant which had no English signage or menu; ensuring that no mistakes were made with the extreme seafood allergy from which one of us suffers. Excellent!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything is immaculate and flawless in this hotel. The best Ryokan that we stayed in Hokkaido so far.
Cons: Nothing! Everything is perfect. Wish we could stay longer!
6.7 Good
Pros: The architecture and staff's hospitality
Cons: Location
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent staff and vacilities, delicious food (multi-course dinner and breakfast) and awesome few over the oceon and city in the outdoor onsen.
Cons: Nothing :)
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Love the design and architecture. Rooms are big and view was spectacular. The staff service in particular- Miss Tomoko was outstanding- she made us smile everyday and was superb. We loved the Michelin cookery and healthy food . Onsen was spectacular as well. It’s also a traditional property so our feeling was retro and cool. A must stay at Hakodate
Cons: There was no place to exercise - that would help. I didn’t like that we had to pay for local calls - that was weird. For a 5 star property they should also allow free mineral water instead of 2 bottles a day- it’s hot weather - come on!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This traditional ryokan looks and feels incredible. The room is spacious and comfortable (the beds in particular are amazing) but the real winner here is the superb view of the sea. It's very nice to just sit at the table in front of the window and enjoy the view and sounds of the waves. There is also a tablet provided that allows you to adjust all the lights and curtains, as well as order room service. The location is excellent with a Lawson and ramen restaurants just nearby. We opted for the half-board option and our meals were served in the common dining hall, which also has a great view of the sea. The food was great and staff were attentive and always ready to help. The public onsen is a tad small but is otherwise very nice.

Pros: The location is excellent- within walking distance of the sights of Motomachi, the red brick warehouse district and the Mt Hakodate ropeway. Rooms are large and nicely decorated. Happy Hour each evening gives guests a chance to relax in the cosy lobby with a complementary glass of wine or beer. There is a small Japanese bath bookable on a first come first served basis. The staff are lovely- keen to advise and to help book restaurants. And breakfast is excellent - a wide range of cooked dishes as well as the usual breads, fruit and yoghurt. Our favourite hotel of our trip to Hokkaido.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: - Extremely well run hotel - Complimentary happy hour with snacks - Very clean, modern room - I left my jacket in the lobby and the hotel staff called up to the room to remind me, which means they saw me wearing it and made a note of that when I checked in—very nice personal touch This hotel was far beyond my expectations. Cons: Nil

Pros: Breakfast was fantastic and also highlighted what a great location. Going down into the morning market each day was a treat and I thought the breakfast was excellent value.
Cons: The room was very nice though there seemed to be a limited number of king rooms, though this was pretty par for the course in japan.

Onsen was awesome. Localization is near enough most of what we wanted to visit, and had good food all around it. Try the ice cream shop across the street! 9.6 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in the Japanese Modern Suite with Bath and the experience blew us away - the room is extremely spacious and comfortable, and the private onsen is amazing. It's big enough for 3 people to sit comfortably in (though we used it 1 at a time) and it's just an amazing feeling having an onsen all to yourself. We also took the half-board option and the dinner and breakfast were both excellent, with a huge variety of dishes and served as a course meal. Staff were very friendly and could speak some English and were always ready to help.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The food was impressive. The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. I was aching and having wrist pain from an old injury, the staff noted and brought me a pack of plaster for me to ease the pain. Despite language barrier, the lady who served me (i'm sorry I did not note down her name) gave me a lot of information on where to go, how to go. Good job!
Cons: Although they have a note written explaining on the way they clean the room with windows closed but it was too dusty for my nose and asthma condition. I hope they can vacuum it to make it better.

Cons: The staff serving food does not explain and breakfast is too slow

Cons: The price for the suite was a bit expensive.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Warm welcome when we arrived after a long day's trip to Hakodate, with mochi and tea in the lounge looking out into a beautiful winter garden. The room is spacious, actually bigger than it appears on the website. Love the indoor and outdoor onsens, which were clean, quiet and had views of the city, sea and airport runway. There is also a rest area on the same level as the onsens, a relaxing place with panoramic views. Several restaurants are within walking distance, we enjoyed the very local atmosphere at an izakaya. The Hakodate ropeway, harbour, fish market and JR station are just about 15 minutes by taxi, even in snow conditions. A lovely place to wind down after a cold day out in snow. Try the massages at the spa, very effective!
7.9 Good

Cons: The walls were thin, I think. I could hear some talking and light switch clicking from the next door. Breakfast was disappointing. Most food was not warm.
7.9 Good
Pros: Comedy beds and floors, well designed lobby and very nice amenities.
7.9 Good
Pros: Environment Staffs Ice cream
Cons: Pillow not comfortable Early check out time
7.9 Good
Pros: onsen & free sparkling wine
Cons: little bit cold in the room, the AC had to be running all the time
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Everything was exceptional except for the price and location. The great facilities and service were worthy the extra expense and the foot work to get there. The free ice cream and drinks really got me.
Cons: The hotel is located a fair distance off the main road. The roads leading to the hotel was bumpy too. Getting there on foot (after bus or trem) with a suitcase was therefore very inconvenient. Everything within the hotel (breakfast, onsen, drink corners, room, etc) was AMAZING, but less impressive considering the high price. Breakfast was great, but it might not suit some foreigners' taste as all options were extremely Japanese.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Large rooms, great location, friendly and attentive staff, very clean.
Cons: Facility was a little run down, feel like I overpaid by booking through booking.com.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room is very, VERY spacious, easily exceeding normal Japanese hotel room. The interior of the hotel and the room is very much victorian themed all around. Bathroom is very spacious too with high quality amenities. The bathtub is very large, it could accommodate someone like me who is around 190cm tall. This hotel is located only a stone throw from Hakodate main attraction like the ropeway, church district, and the pier. Many bar and eateries dotted the neighborhood (even the hotel got one). The streetcar station is only 2 blocks away if you wanted to go to Goryoukaku Fort. The hotel itself are placed in a 3 stories building, therefore it's not a large hotel at all. It got no swimming pool or the like so people with kids should stay away. The point of this hotel is for couple who wanted to spend their honeymoon or just do a leisure trip.
Cons: None.
9.6 Excellent

Cons: Location. Very quiet but in a fringe area but close to eatery and seafood market 5 minutes away.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very helpful and provided information and maps in my language. There was a choice of western or japanese breakfast and the breakfast was substantial and really good. It is a really convenient location , near the tram, near the gondola, near the red brick warehouses and a short walking distance from the station and morning markets. It was quiet at night. I really enjoyed my stay and hope to be back. All the staff were helpful and kind.

Pros: Hard pillow, comfortable bed.

Pros: Plenty of choices for the breakfast and the location is excellent. Most of the attractions are within walking distances.
Cons: The curtain cannot block the sunlight at all. Too hot in the room and too bright in early morning. Even though there was air-conditioning provided, only hot air was available which made the room even hotter and extremely dry.

Pros: Staff were lovely.
Cons: We booked a nonsmoking room and the one they tried to put us in stank of smoke. The whole floor was awful. They put us in a new section which was lovely.

Cons: None!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The location of the hotel is fantastic. Many restaurants and attractions are within walking distance.
7.9 Good
Pros: Location and newness of room. However the premium twin that they upgraded us to was not comfortable - space was provided for a third single bed instead of an average to large bathroom.
Cons: As described above. Also, air conditioning was not effective throughout the hotel - the lounge was stuffy. Air con in room worked erratically so we had to keep adjusting.
9.2 Excellent
Cons: There was no electrical outlet on the nightstand or near the bed.

4.2 Okay
Pros: View from the hotel of the harbor is nice, but fairly low. Towels were fluffy. The location is okay, depending on where you want to go. It’s closer to the brick area and the ropeway.
Cons: The hotel is quite dated and you’ll feel it as soon as you walk in. The hotel also felt like a ghost town. Hardly anyone was here and we wondered why! The rooms had a very musty aroma and the beds weren’t great. It was incredibly overpriced for what it was and the booking score doesn’t reflect the reality. We spent our two days in Hakodate wishing we had booked elsewhere.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is near the bus stop (for going to and coming from train station). It is a few minutes walk to the brick warehouse, and not too far from the morning market (if you enjoy walking). Our room has the view of the harbour and it is very nice and peaceful.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The location was excellent. 5-minute walk from brick warehouse and 10-minute walk from ropeway entrance. You can see a beautiful ocean and lights every night and day from the window. Also it's quite because it's away from other hotels. You won't find noisy group tourists in Winning hotel. Staffs were kind also. You won't have trouble speaking English there. One of the best accommodation during my trip in Hokkaido.
Cons: Far from market and Hakodate station. (But I think they will provide pick-up service)

7.9 Good
Pros: This is a quirky small inn located less than 10 mins walk from the main Hakodate station. The staff were really nice, welcoming and helpful. I had a double wester style room ensuite, decent size bathroom. It was a good size and had some wonderful toiletries and more (nicer than a business hotel). Wifi was fast in my room. The facilities are quite old but they have their own charm.
Cons: There's a strong small of cats at the reception. I would advise the owners to use some air fresheners or scented candles.
7.5 Good
Cons: there is no dryer
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent hospitality. Best I've ever had (even compared to 5 star chain hotels). It was like being welcomed home by family. Check in was handled very smoothly and the staff made sure everything was to our liking, making sure they stocked all our amenities and making sure everything was well cared for. When we checked out, it felt like our family was seeing us off on a long trip, giving us gifts and telling us to be safe and come back any time. I wish I could have stayed longer, but I will definitely go back to this hotel when I'm back in Hakodate. Also! The location is amazing. It is a short walk to the station and everything is within a half hour or less away.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Quirky place to stay with lovely friendly staff. Good location and comfy bed. Good value price

Pros: Pension Puppy Tail is definitely a hotel we recommend to tourists looking for a home-like stay in Hakodate. Very convenient as it’s around 5-minute walk from JR station and it’s also close to Morning Market. The staff are helpful, friendly and can be easily communicated in English. We had a small chat with them every morning and greatly appreciate the warm hospitality of Japan we experienced in this small hotel.
