Chiayi City hotels

Pros: The complimentary hotel transfer from train station to hotel and vice versa.

Cons: The staff especially at the reception were quite cold and not very helpful at check-in. On our check-out date, we asked for a hotel to train station transfer at 8.45am but the staff at the reception (she was dressed like a senior member) gave the excuse that all seats are taken for the 8.30am shuttle. We were puzzled and reminded her that we had asked for the 8.45am ride, not the 8.30am. At the end, she grudging arranged the transfer for us.

Cons: -We don’t have the same definition of upgrade: Usually you have better room, here I had a smaller bed than initial booking + a single bed I didn’t use, so where is the upgrade? The 3rd toothbrush ? -Lobby have some problem to use foreigner bank card, even at tree people to try - a little old room even if clean - smell a little at the lobby and basement - a little noisy air conditioning - a little expensive compare to some other hotel.

Pros: Nice place .staff friendly and polite. The room is comfort and the breakfast not bad.

Cons: Breakfast is good but only Asian style so NO bacon and eggs- etc, not much bread choice. Menu is the same, but it is not a big deal unless you are staying for a night or two.

Pros: Friendly helpful staff who upgraded my room automatically from double no windows to family with window. Bright, clean, well maintained premises with reasonable breakfast dining area. Excellent selection of Asian breakfast and Western meals.j Brightly lit rooms with enough power outlets. Good shower and toilet spacious. Free self service laundry and ironing facilities. Reasonable distance (400) metres from nearest main night street market.

Cons: Upgraded room had two singles beds and now double with windows. Partner had to climb in from end of bed because there was no space between beds. Toilet rolls placed right behind on the wall, but luckily I could remove roll and pipit it on the lower vanity shelf

Pros: Superb location in the middle of town, close to everything, on a high elevation, cool view and not too busy/noisy.

Cons: The bathroom is very small and breakfast very basic (only white toast).

Cons: The breakfast was poor for the cost per night. In the past three weeks other hotels and bnb were far superior. This place only offered toast and fruit

Cons: The shower is placed in the entry area of the bathroom which is space-saving but makes it a bit difficult to use the toilet and/or washbasin after showering (bathroom slippers are provided) Big fans just outside which are a bit noisy when the windows are opened

Pros: Staff was super nice and friendly! The bathrooms and rooms were clean. Location was good too, 5 mins from Chiayi main station so if you're thinking of travelling to Alishan etc. Really like the people there :) Plus you can write a letter to your future self and they will send it to you for a small fee :) Enjoyed our stay here :)

Pros: Very spacious room and huge bed with a good mattress.

Cons: Room is a bit noisy - outside the windows are air conditioners which are running 24/7 and the walls are paper thin.

Pros: Has a great view of the city at dawn. Unlike other hostels located in high rise buildings, ALJ has many windows on different sides thus allowing natural light to come in. Also the windows can open so there is a fresh breeze that blows through. Made a big difference to waking early feeling refreshed - nothing beats fresh air and sunlight! And good to linger in common area where there are beanbags, egg chair, etc. The staff are friendly and have prepared travel and food info, including their own map. Helpful with Qs re. Alishan. Small kitchen is well equipped and good breakfast - fresh fruit and a variety of spreads and drinks. Snacks are available all day. Dorm has chairs, cushions table and clothes hanger, fan and a/c. Bunk has light and charging, curtains. Small locker. Cleanliness taken seriously - there is UV sanitizer they put the cutlery and china through after guests have washed. There is disinfectant spray for slippers. Attention to detail also great eg. pouch with the key to protect other things in pocket. Walkable from train station and to night market.

Cons: Very minor: can’t sit up in low bunk, bathroom is small.

Pros: Staff is super friendly. They actually did a details introduction of what to do and where to eat or go in Chiayi. He even gave tips about the time about buses operation hour to Alishan and how to save money on those trips Very happy with the stay. I definitely recommend this place

Pros: the common area and laundry facilities were used and appreciated! they had american quality washing machines and dryers; US size. It was very much appreciated as we had packed lightly and are used to machine dried clothing. Late check out is promptly expected at 12 PM and we were able to lounge in the common area the intervening time between site seeing and moving to a new city. Breakfast buffet set is nice, plentiful with conventional American cereals, Muslim friendly, and traditional Japanese and generic Chinese fare. It was not as tasty as the other but perfectly fine.

Cons: The hotel room has high end decor, really nice bathrooms etc... However the floors were pretty dirty, spilled and soiled into the carpets enough so that I needed to mention it. It's probably an oversight by management as the housekeeping staff are very attentive.

Cons: There was a really weird smell at the toilet at B1.

Pros: Since this hotel is close to Wenhua night market, it is quite convenient to buy some snack. and it has large porch, so traveler can rest or have some meals on there. The price of one day staying is also reasonable and the receptionist is quite kindness and polite. Free bread and jam are available when breakfast. When I come back to Chiayi again, I will also choice this hotel.

Cons: Front offices do not speak English much.

Cons: I used a debit card to guarantee for my stay. It was charged the full amount a few days before my arrival. When I got there the staffs there asked for another request, saying that the charged amount was guarantee only and they will ask their bank to repay. Two weeks past, the money has not returned and I have sent several emails but got no responses.

Pros: newly opened hotel, facility is quite new.

Cons: no laundry bag provided, no bathtub, the breakfast is too Taiwanese while I'd prefer more western style.

Cons: Pity: * Breakfast Buffet tasted mediocre, and the space was not cooling enough. * Not feeling massaged due to the weak water pumping in the Jacuzzi. * In the suburbs, few restaurants and stores nearby.

Pros: The view from the B&B were amazing and the host was really helpful too. Though places to eat are not very accessible, the host offered to drive us out to get dinner. He also offered to send us to the bus stop early the next morning.

Cons: The B&B is quite hard to reach if you’re travelling by the public transport as it’s only accessible by a bus from Fen Chi Hu station that comes in long intervals. But our host was very helpful when we managed to contact him via whatsapp, so we managed to arrive without much difficulty.

Pros: Friendly owner and staff. Room was small but cosy and seemed recently renovated. We were out before dawn to catch the sunrise and had to miss breakfast but cash vouchers were given to us to grab some food from the convenience store so that we would not be hungry!

Cons: Bathroom had a bit of a musky smell but was clean. Location is a little off and difficult to get to unless you have a car. Everything else was terrific!

Pros: The hospitality was great! The owners were kind, friendly and so ready to help. They were always more than happy to ferry guests from the bus stop/recommendation dinner locations. There’s also a viewing balcony on the sixth floor for you to catch the sunrise and a homely breakfast to start your day with :)

Pros: We watched sunrise and sunset from viewing deck which was a great bonus! Host was extremely hospitable and offered to fetch us to dinner location. Host conducted a tea farm tour and recommended us to go for award winning coffee as Sightsee Leisure Farm and brought us back from there!

Pros: The whole family is absolutely warm, friendly and helpful. It was an absolute pleasure to stay there,m.

Pros: The owner's hospitality is great! He drove us to fenqihu and gave recommendation for dinner, after which we gave him a call and he picked us up again. He also brought us on a tour of his tea plantation and described to us the various plants. The owner also brewed tea for us before he drove us to the bus station the next day. The room is clean and spacious, and there was a good spread of food for breakfast. View from the place is fantastic as well.

Pros: Hotel on the outskirts of the city with spacious and comfortable rooms. A bit old, but clean. The breakfast was ok.

Pros: We needed to check out before breakfast time. Staff offered us 2 very nice breakfast boxes to take away. They were ready in the morning when we checked out.

Pros: The AC was amazing, and the bathrooms were like the gates of Heaven had opened and I was allowed to take a long shower before I was transported back to hell for saying “squizza”.

Pros: Bed was very comfortable. Staff was very helpful and attentive. The hotel also provided free shuttle service to the Chiayi train station. We truly appreciate their willingness to allow us to keep our luggage there while we backpacked to go up to Alishan for a 2 night stay.

Cons: It was a bit far from the Chiayi train station although hailing a cab was easy enough and cost around TWD 120 to 140 depending on traffic conditions. Walking will take around 25 to 30 mins.

Pros: Much more pleasant than I anticipated. Only a few minutes walk from the train station. Also, the building was relatively new and had a very simple, clean aesthetic. I also loved the bidet toilet and fancy hair dryer in room. Staff was also exceptionally nice, and in particular, allowed us to store luggage for a day before we checked in.

Cons: It did take bit of fiddling with the remote to figure out how to flip channels. The view out of the room was not particularly great.

Pros: Nice hotel with all necessary amenities for a short stay. The receptionist was very helpful to inform that online booking to add one more day was cheaper then booking at the front desk, which we valued a lot :-) Also they accept to keep our luggage for 2 days during our trip to Alishan so we could travel there with lighter suitcase!

Cons: As others have observed before, the air condition is a bit too cold and cannot be adjusted. HOWEVER, we found a good workaround which is to unplug the room key that disconnects all electricity - including the air condition. Overall it is an excellent place to stay in Chiayi.

Cons: The immediate surrounding neighborhood is not pleasant and it is far from the local attractions. Many of the staff don’t speak English well, and some room services don’t have English labels.

The one that I asked question to didn’t even know what public transportation are available near the hotel. I think the hotel could do a better job training their staff, if they want tourists business.

Pros: location is good, like the interior design of the hotel, and a very special service for giving a postcard to every customer that will only be posted after 1 year. will definitely recommend this hotel to friends who want to stay in Chiayi.
