We liked everything! Only stayed one night for my partner's parents 60th wedding anniversary but the hotel surpassed our expectations and will certainly now be our 'go to' hotel when visiting Brighton, which we do several times a year. Staff - reception, Merkaba and breakfast, were all friendly and helpful - the Merkaba bar had a great atmosphere and felt comfortable despite my in-laws being in their 80s! Also wicked cocktails. I'd mentioned it was an anniversary visit and we received a lovely note in the rooms offering a free glass of Prosecco in the bar, you also receive a 10% discount as a guest, and 15% in the Single Batch coffee bar. The decor is boutique style and 'funky', I love the colour orange so was delighted with our room which had an orange theme, loved the colour-changing light, plant and provision of magazines. The room was spacious, had great sound insulation, speakers to plug into your phone, the bed was super-comfy, good wardrobe space, well positioned mirrors, a magnifying mirror in the bathroom, good sized (and strength) shower, large towels, and the addition of an Illy coffee pod machine along with the usual tea and coffee making facilities was a great touch. We didn't use the mini bar but it was well stocked, and there were also snacks. I was very pleased to see a hotel taking steps to reduce single plastic use by having toiletries in pouches, proper bathroom mugs instead of disposable plastic cups, and the recycling bins are a stoke of genius. Breakfast was continental with a good selection and everything clearly labelled, lovely single batch filter coffee! Basically we loved our stay and were disappointed not to have more time to spend in the room! One final comment - if you're staying as a couple you have to be very 'comfortable' with each other, as the open-plan nature of the bathroom (despite having a frosted glass door to the toilet) means nothing is left 'unheard' - use the sound system!
Really nothing we didn't like, but if I was to be VERY picky.. - soft close toilet seat would be nice - no soap dish (I felt bad putting the soap on the glass shelf!) - no price list for the mini bar and snacks - coffee and tea making facilities were on a high shelf, fine for us but maybe not if you're under 5'6"!
Location is amazing you don’t need to go back for the car at all
We stayed last year and had a lovely room so re booked this year, the room was very small and we changed it the 2 nd night but this smaller room costs £50 more than the year before seemed a bit strange
Nice sized rooms, very quite and clean (if a little tired looking). The hotel was welcoming, felt safe at night and had a fantastic bar. Staff are always on hand to help out with advice and rectify issues if there are any.
There are better breakfast options a short walk away.
The location is perfect and despite the hotel being central it's very quiet. Staff was friendly and the room was clean. The Chilli Pickle is a fabulous restaurant with flavoursome food and lovely atmosphere. Highly recommend it.
The downside was not having a wardrobe for my clothes, and next time I book at the hotel I'll make sure to get a room with a view.
Lovely hotel, spacious room
Little privacy regarding the bathroom
