Location and friendly staff coming from Ireland and the guy on check in was able to give us the history of the building which was fascinating.
Lovely, tasteful rooms with high ceilings on second floor (60 or so steps to walk up, so you get fit!). Central location with easy access to public transport. Very helpful host and excellent breakfast. Highly recommended!
Some street noise if your room is at the front, nice and quiet if it's at the back.
Very friendly staff, very good location (really close to subway)
No airco, only a fan. As the first days were hot, airco would have been nice.
I’ve seen some negative reviews of this Hotel, such as the lack of an elevator and the unfriendliness of the proprietor, but it’s an old building so of course there is no elevator. If you can’t manage to walk up a couple of flights of steps, you won’t enjoy walking around Berlin... The proprietor is a very friendly and helpful guy. If you’ve had a problem with him, you’re probably pretty miserable yourself. He’s done a great job of renovating the place. It’s very clean and the beds are comfortable. One minor gripe is that my room key was a bit fiddly to get in the lock. No big deal then.
It's an easy acomodation to visit Berlin, located near the West center is pretty close to Kudamm and a lot of restaurants, stores. Parking the car was possible in a private garage on the other side of the street, really helpful. Reception is open until 3 PM but it wasn't a problem because we arrived before and we had the room already clean.
I understand it's run by a family, but I think breakfast at 8 AM (8.30 in the weekend) is a little too late. Usually it's a 7 AM. Anyway it's not been a major deal for us. Metro station on Augsburger Strasse is 20 meters from the door, but it's located on an outer metro line, not so well connected to the main tourist places. But there are other stations not so far from the hotel, anyway.
