10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was our first time at a ryokan and the experience was great. Our futons were very comfortable and they had 4 private onsens. There was a lot of food for dinner and it was not rushed. The staff were very friendly. Breakfast was a big meal as well.
Cons: We liked everything.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: It’s really the 4 private onsen baths that make this place worth while.
Cons: Not really near anything....need a car to get somewhere
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We loved our stay at Aso no Shiki. Unfortunately we got lost finding the place even though using navigation system in the car as well as google maps. We overshot the venue, we were looking for a road however the road was more like what we would call a lane way so we got confused. Once we overshot the venue the navigation system got confused too. However, we did find our way. It was fantastic. The staff were so friendly and even though we spoke almost no Japanese and they spoke limited English, we got on very well. We had booked for both breakfast and dinner. Dinner was traditional Japanese food and was great, we dressed in the Japanese yukata and jacket they gave us and sat in the dining room cooking our own meal over a fire in the middle of the table. The other guests mainly dressed in the gowns too which added to the pleasant experience. We cooked fish, chicken and beef and had miso soup and various side dishes. Oishii (delicious). As was breakfast which included various Japanese dishes as well as an egg cooked in a small pot over a candle. After dinner we washed in one of the private Japanese bathrooms and then soaked in the associated outdoor heated pool/bath. So relaxing. Our beds were traditional Japanese and close to the floor, which we managed very well and had a very comfortable night. The room had a traditional Japanese table and chairs, also close to the floor, and we were welcomed with some Japanese treats. The room had it's own private toilet and sink. We didn't always know what we were doing (our first time in a ryokan) but the staff helped us out, we had a bit of a laugh with them, and overall we had a lovely stay. I would definitely go there again.
Cons: When we couldn't find the venue easily we kept looking for the front as pictured on booking.com. Eventually we stopped in a car park where we thought the venue was and wandered around a bit to try to find the front. The venue is actually up on the next level from the lower car park where we stopped, and to the left. We couldn't see the front until we went searching. It would be nice if there was a picture of the location from the road.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We enjoyed wonderful private hot spa and decorations. The owner was very kind and took us with our baggage to the station. We even got tasty meal as present.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: This place is great for foreigners as it has four private baths. Two are outside and the other two have windows that open to the outside. One is large enough to accommodate four or more. Food is plentiful. Lots of meat and fish with Aso specialities. You grill your food over a charcoal fire at the table. The hostess came round and gave us free sake which was a nice bonus. Price was very low compared to other ryokans.
Cons: You end up smelling of grilled meat as the dining room has poor ventilation. Breakfast is from 7:30 which made it tight for us to get back to Kumamoto for the train.
7.1 Good
Pros: Friendly staff. Good location.
Cons: They only played one song of Kenny G the entire time. No futon.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Room was huge and comfortable. Both dinner and breakfast were very delicious and filling. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. They even prepared onigiri for us to takeaway during checkout. Highly recommended!
Cons: N/A

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Every corner of the place is so exquisitely designed. The common area is beautiful with free coffee, tea and a lot of space for socialising and working. The bathroom is also spotlessly clean.
Cons: The air-con inside the room is not strong enough.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: I like the location and the parking space available.
Cons: The room rate for the double bed is quite expensive and my friend could not book the dormitory room even though there were some vacancy on the day of our arrival.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Hostel is very cozy, organized and clean.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The place has a nice brand-new feel to it. All the areas are properly clean and common areas are very cozy and welcoming. The number of beds per room and the number of toilet/bathroom facilities were also a plus.
Cons: The shower had a very annoying button that needed to be pressed every 5 seconds for the water to keep running. I understand that this is for saving water but 5 seconds is too short. It should be 30 seconds at least.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: It's very clean and tidy. So close to JR station. Convenience store just on the opposite side. Very detailed information about recommendation of Aso event.
Cons: The dorm room doesn't have door but curtains. When everyone is quiet is fine, but on my second night stay home guests were laughing and talking which it's a bit noisy..
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Cozy feeling, comfortable place. Like a mountain lodge.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is very ideal (really near to Aso station). The interiors were very pleasing and the bed was super comfortable. I recommend this place to anyone visiting Aso area. There's free coffee/tea etc and the kitchen is shared has all tools you need.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very close of the railway and bus station. Very clean and facilities are good.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location is great.
Cons: Unlike other dormitory, they have 4 person sharing a room. Which is lesser people and this less noise.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location and the staff
Cons: Nothing
Ryokan Kono-Yu - Aso - Building
3
9.1 Excellent (659 reviews)
Overview Reviews
The Ryokan Kono-Yu provides a great place for travelers to relax after a busy day. When guests have some time on their hands they can make use of the onsite facilities. According to our trusted guests, the facilities at this hotel are first-rate. The Ryokan Kono-Yu is one of the top accommodation choices in Minamioguni.
7.5 Good
Pros: Onsen
Cons: Food is really a lot.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff, spacious room, really big private onsen in our room.
Cons: Our whole group doesn't like the Wagyu beef in dinner course. It had to much fat which made the meat taste a little bit disgusting.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: cozy and sweet place. a little bit far from center, I lived it though. deliciouse plates and well serviced staff. I really appreciate korean staff who cared us all the time.
Cons: I could feel facilites old. but it was clean.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Service from all staff are impressive. Always offer greeting. Hotel room was very comfortable and clean.
6.7 Good
Pros: Nice having Onsen in room. Excellent double Onsen, massage Maxine, towel service. Relax table could be nice addition
Cons: Price was much too high for what offered. Charging this high price and then: 1) Not premium meals - Wagyu beef was more like pure fat marbled w meat. Sushi was low quality and tough. No wine/sake was included w meal at charge of €600+ per night. 2) No drinks in room not even bottles of water offered on complimentary basis. veey pedantic to charge even for s bottle of water, a coke, a beer at these prices. 3) downstairs toilet not convenient This was a 5-star charge but so so much of a 5-star offering. Many more amenities and higher food quality and services should be offered to justify such a price
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything at this ryokan was amazing! The staff were extremely helpful, patient, attentive and kind. They were happy to help us with any request or question. The facilities were also incredible. The rooms, with their private onsens, massage chair and tatami-mat room made our stay so magical and relaxing. The private onsens really are magical and better than many onsens we visited, they are a great addition to help you escape reality and enter this magical mountainous place - In your own time and space. The breakfasts and dinners were also fantastic and mind-blowing! So much food, each course bursting with different flavours. Fantastic experience I highly highly highly recommend this ryokan to all.
Cons: Nothing - everything was spectacular.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The food was fantastic and service attentive. Cho-san was very friendly and helpful. It was great to have a private onsen in the room!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A truly magical place. The private onsen was great. We went for a stroll in the evening through Kurokawa, it was an awesome experience. I highly recommend to book this ryokan
9.2 Excellent
Pros: the small details you found in the room. The cute towel and hand bag you can take away as a souvenir. They cares a lot in general, offered a small drink for free since they are barely late to pick us from bus stop. The encourage you to savor every bite of your meal never rushed anything. Even the waitress in training showed her best. The always there friendly staff that actually try very hard to plan your trip tomorrow. Even my girlfriend speaks decent Japanese it’s actually better to consult the staff for trip and bus tips. The bathroom is great. The best thing is this ryokan is the version 2.0 of a traditional Japanese ryokan without all the small hassle that bugs you cuz of the age of the facility. The facility is actually on par with the new generation hotel you find else where. You know some Japanese ryokan built in late 80s can be a scary scene in the night.
Cons: They are the best onsen host winner of 2018 of Kurosawa area. I can’t say it’s the best value for money but it worth every penny A bit far from central street but they take you there by bus.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent staff, superb food, amazing onsen.
Cons: Bed and toilet on different floor
Kurokawa Onsen Yamabiko Ryokan - Aso - Building
4
9.0 Excellent (561 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at KUROKAWA ONSEN YAMABIKO RYOKAN in Minamioguni (Kurokawa Onsen), you'll be steps from Yamakawa Onsen and a 4-minute drive from Meotodaki Fall. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic setting and I like the way you organize the meals in a separate building outside of the bedrooms and also the diversity of hot spring pools available. This improves both privacy and flexibility and diversity of experience. It was luxurious to have the outdoor pools mostly to myself both in the morning and evening during my stay, so that was a special treat. Of course the food was outstanding, so overall a wonderful relaxing stay in a wonderful place! Also I really appreciated the XXL yukata! Made a big difference for a big person! Domo Arigatou!
Cons: Air conditioner blows cold air on the futon. Easily adjusted but had to fool with the A/C settings and move the bed several times to keep that from getting difficult for sleeping. I would not call this a problem, just something to think about when you are setting up the rooms for guests to sleep. Also likely does not matter as much in the winter when people are trying to stay warm not cool :)
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Good location, nice circumstances. That's topical image of Onsen & Ryokan!
Cons: Basically no dislike for me.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Kurokawa was a knockout destination. It was small and it was a really fun town to stay in. Lots to do in the surrounding area ie the crater and Takachiho gorge. Very beautiful driving around. At Yamabiko there were six different private baths for guests. Three of them overlooking the river. Good amenities ie ice machine. Would definitely stay there again.
Cons: Arrive early as there are very limited restaurant options. Book ahead or arrive with food. We didn’t eat at the restaurant but I believe it has a minor Michelin recommendation.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Professional service and warm employees Hot springs are both comfortable Location is excellent Meals are delicious and attentive.
Cons: None
9.2 Excellent

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Good onsen. Private onsen provides. Good view from the room. Nice dinner
Cons: Staffs can speak English well but seem not friendly as other.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We are lucky there is a staff from Hong Kong conducting working holiday. They schedule him to serve the meal, which is fantastic for us to distinguish the food.
Cons: I want to drink a coffee milk after the onsen at night.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The outdoor hot spring is awesome
Cons: Food is beautiful but taste so so
7.5 Good
Pros: The beds were super comfy. Nice food but not accommodating. Onsen was very enjoyable.
Cons: Dinner option was not given to us at the point of booking. Emailed staff but it was too last minute and was very pricey. Ended up having no dinner provided for us. Not adaptable to unforeseen circumstances such as last minute dinner arrangements. First time Travellers may not know how secluded the Ryokan is and where to find food.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Amazing location in the nature, much better than many Ryokan in the area. Great choice of hot springs inside the premises (6 hot baths). Food was amazing and served in an excellent manner in a private dinner room, pity not to understand the effort and the quality of the various dishes.
Cons: English language is not really available everywhere, but they tried to help as much as they could.

Pros: The dinner and breakfast were exquisite.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The food is very delicions, the staffs are kindly and nicely, I enjoy my stay there. Next time, I want to stay there at least 2 nights.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The Japanese room type is special to us. The room is cosy enough. The outdoor hot springs are excellent. They are large enough and with good outdoor view. The private hot springs are good too. The breakfast is nice Japanese style breakfast with numerous dishes. They are special . You can enjoy the free juice and coffee bar in the lobby as well. The outdoor decoration on our way to the outdoor hot springs is surprisingly great. There is also a mini-library. It is really a comfortable stay. The staff are really helpful and they manage to use google translate well to communicate with customers from different countries! We are delighted to have a stay here.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: It’s a beautiful Japanese style hotel. Great outdoor onsen, both breakfast and dinner are great. Staff doesn’t speak English well but they are smart to use the app to translate.
Cons: Nothing really

Overview Reviews
With a stay at Luna Observatory Auberge Mori No Atelier in Minamiaso, you'll be in the mountains, just steps from Mt. Aso and a 4-minute drive from Shirakawa Springs. Free self parking is available onsite.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The accommodation offered an observatory/star gazing tour. The guide didnt speak too much English but his enthusiasm was contagious. It was a little cloudy that night but I am so grateful that it cleared up later. I saw a shooting star! If you are travelling around the Mt Aso area would definitely recommend this place. P.S if you miss out on booking the dinner at the accommodation, ask reception to recommend a restaurant :)
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The whole experience, very cozy set-up, local fresh food and observatory experience. The staff even went extra mile to provide little surprise gift for everyone during the breakfast.
Cons: Price slightly higher.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Like its name, this is the Observatory theme hotel. There is the Star Observation Tour after dinner and you should not miss it. The dinner and breakfast is great.
Cons: They accept cash only. Should notify guests in advance about this policy.
6.7 Good
Pros: Food and friendliness, helpfulness of staff. This hotel has a charm that is hard to put into words. We have stayed three years ago and came back. The telescope experience was limited as it was a cloudy night.
Cons: Uncomfortable beds. Bathroom very outdated. Perhaps a short explanatory sheet in English about the telescope experience. We have stayed st the hotel before and as we were the only ones booked for the telescope experience it was done in English.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Highly hospitality staff. The star tour was fascinating. My son was shocked by the huge telescope. Delicious local fresh food.
Cons: The car navigation failed to show us the correct location but had to rely on google map
7.5 Good
Pros: quaint and rustic place. pls try to check in on Sunday for a special treat of some classical music performances.
4.6 Okay
Pros: The only saving grace about this place is the western fine dining dinner and maybe the observatory if you are lucky to have a clear night.
Cons: The room is pathetically small. There is not even space to lay our luggage flat for packing. The toilet and bathroom were so tiny that you can hardly turn (so expect to walk in and then reverse back to get out). The bed mattress is as hard as cement. It is much worse than on a tatami in a traditional Ryokan. I have to use the blanket as extra bed lining to be able to get to sleep, else it is hurting my bones. There are water seepage marks at the wall paper and the room is not tidy or clean. They only have 2 private onsen (actually small room with a bathtub of hot water) and we are only given 30 mins per room. I have a family of 4, we have to take turns to shower and dip, as the kids are teenager. They should have given us 2 slots for 4 pax! Not considerate at all. The worst is that they only accept CASH. This was not stated in the booking information! So we run out of cash after paying a big sum for our stay and had to draw on our credit cards. So, fine yourself a better place and not risk trying this hotel. Looks/photos can be deceiving.
7.9 Good
Cons: No lift and Pay Cash only
7.9 Good
Pros: Really friendly staff and unique hotel experience. The food is delicious and fresh.
Cons: Room space is small.
7.5 Good
Pros: Nice western meal. Beautiful location. Staff try their best to communicate in English
Cons: A little write up in English on observatory star night would be very useful.

Pros: The location (in the town of Aso), the traditional style, the excellent food (breakfast and dinner), the public and private baths, the huge and comfortable room looking to the garden and the river, the very helpful staff, the cosy reading room.

Kurokawa Onsen Ryokan Ichinoi - Aso - Bedroom
8
8.7 Excellent (368 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Kurokawa Onsen Ryokan Ichinoi in Minamioguni (Kurokawa Onsen), you'll be steps from Yamakawa Onsen and a 4-minute drive from Meotodaki Fall. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The room was HUGE with a lovely sitting area near the window where you can have drinks and enjoy the sounds of the little river bubbling underneath. The baths were nice and the dinner was lovely. My cousin is pesketarian and they catered to her very well! The onsen pass lets you use three other onsens of your choice, and it was so nice to walk around in the yukata and dip in the different onsens.
Cons: I wish the onsen pass was included in the price!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful onsen baths, and brilliant food!
Cons: Food is served in a dining room, not the guest rooms as in other ryokans
9.2 Excellent
Pros: It is slightly away from the centre (up a small slope). However it is away from the walking crowd. It is also along a 4km hiking trail. We have discovered an unmarked trail-path the leads us back to the Ryokan after Lover’s Hill (part of the hiking trail). There is 2 hiking trail around 4km each. The staff is very friendly. Especially the Oji-san who drove us to and fro the bus stop.
Cons: The outdoor onsen is a bit small next to the forest. However, it is all natural. The water temperature of the indoor onsen is slightly cold (need fixing)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The service is very friendly. And almost enjoy and feel like home.
Cons: Nothing
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Staff were really friendly and helpful. We were a bit lost and the driver led us by car all the way from the town's gas station. Lots of variety for on board dinner and breakfast. Dinner was delicious. Indoor and outdoor onsen were just next to each other split by a door, so was very convenient.
Cons: Bathrooms were located outside and at ground floor, so if you're in Level 1, you'd have to walk down the stairs. Just note its a chore in winter :)
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Room was spacious and comfortable with a lovely relaxing ambiance. Very nice additional touches, such as nice toiletries. Meals were meticulously prepared and beautifully presented but somewhat challenging for those unfamiliar with Kaiseki cuisine.
Cons: While the meals were excellently presented, there was a lot of fish and meat sashimi, a definite challenge for people unused to eating raw meat, particularly horse meat! With Kaiseki meals there is a set menu and no choice of food for dinner.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: All staff was kind. There was staff who can speak Korean. It was very convenient. Dinner and breakfast were so nice that we felt like being treated well.
Cons: The floor of the open area spring bath was a little dirty.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The food: great Kaiseki dinner & breakfast served.
Cons: Location is bit far from Kurokawa Onsen Bus Station, but ryokan provides pick-up & drop-off service from/to the bus station.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We like everything! The gracious shuttle driver, location away from the main roads (a slight uphill walk but not difficult), the large tatami room with balcony, the totally awesome kaiseki meals (truly wonderful), the respectful privacy offered by all staff, the heavenly futon to cuddle under, the outstanding onsen - so clean and beautiful.
Cons: Nothing we didnt like. Everything was excellent!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great service, amazing onsen facilities and wonderfully prepared dinner!
Cons: The breakfast might not be to everybody's liking (typical ryokan breakfast including soup, fish etc.)
Minshuku Asogen - Aso - Building

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful, nice, clean, quiet place. Will come back soon with my bicycle to explore the surroundings.
Cons: For what I was expecting, nothing. Completely exceed my expectations.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff, some of them speak a little bit of English. Breakfast was delicious, but too expensive. We had the same meal in Kumamoto for half the price. We loved the family baths! They have four of them, we never had to wait to use one. The Onsen inside of each family bath is fantastic and the temperature is pleasant. Towels and Yukatas are provided. Daily room clean-up is offered.
Cons: The Minshuku is located next to the main road, so you could hear cars and trucks passing by - even when windows are kept closed. Bus connections to Aso Station are not that frequent and the last bus is around five.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Entire ryokan seemed very new (or updated), had very nice decor, spacious rooms, extremely clean, private family baths. Front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again!!
Cons: A little far from Aso Station (3.9 km) but we had bikes and so it was not an issue.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: hot spring included
Cons: extra charge of kids under 6 years old
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Gorgeous ryokan! Had such a wonderful experience here. Room was huge for the four of us, and futons were very comfy. Being able to use the private bathing facilities, plus private onsen was great! We had the whole dinner experience which was amazing and so much food! Worth every penny.
Cons: The shared indoor slippers was a little concerning. Would have preferred to have a pair that I was sure had been cleaned since the last user...
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Value for money for the great room space.
Cons: Not much things to do around the accommodation.
7.5 Good
Pros: Bathroom onsen are great. ( But limited time to go)

Cons: The location is near bus stop but a bit inconvenient to catch bus to sightseeing due to the limited transportation、buses are not frequent.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Private bath. Staff was helpful in making last minute requests of having a ground floor room.
Cons: Rooms are near one another. Able to hear other guests’ mumbling sounds if they are talking loudly in their rooms.

Guesthouse Asora is located in Aso and takes about 10 minutes walk from JR Aso Station, near Aso Shrine and Mo-Mo Farm Takehara Farm. It takes about 45 minutes to Kumamoto Airport by car. Free WiFi is available in the guest rooms. The hotel possesses 4 rooms.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: How it felt like home!
Cons: This is a homey, quaint guesthouse that is very clean, quiet and relaxing. We stayed in a Japanese style room. However, the futon was abit thin and the pillow was too hard. There were no blinds or curtains of any sort blocking out sunlight at the window so it affected our sleep.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: it was a peaceful and lovely place in Aso
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Really nice guesthouse, everything was so clean. Good location and very comfortable!!!!
Cons: All good!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff. Convenient location especially for trains and buses. Wonderful area to visit and great base.
Cons: Nothing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very clean
6.7 Good
Pros: Nice welcome, nice japanese room
Cons: 1) When we came back from dinner, our room couldn‘t be opened due to a damaged door-lock. Nobody in GH, it took us 2 hours past midnight, to solve that. Those things may happen. But it is not acceptable, that the host knew about the lock-problem before and didn‘t repair it !!! 2) Even with Nav and map-code it was hard to find. No sign in the neighborhood.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: It's a safe neighbourhood. The location are closer to main train station and many other attractions. I had a good time staying here and meet other travelers as well.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Close to station, restaurants, and coin laundry although it has a washing machine if you can wait to line dry.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: It’s sooo clean not even one dust was seen in the room. The hostess was polite and friendly, even made her own props to help communication. A lot of free food in the fridge. Provides bikes for rent.
Cons: Street outside is really dark without street lamp, it’s hard to go out (by foot or bike) without proper lighting. The flashlight provide is too week.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Extremely nice staff, very clean and cozy. It is near the station and a lot of restaurants.
Cons: The beds were not very comfortable (a bit hard).

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Rustic and charming and the room was warm and cozy. Very nice staff. Comfortable bed. Outside bath and shower was great and beat enjoyed when not raining but offered private bath by the staff which was great!
Cons: A bit higher end for the level of rustic japanese ryokan but overall very good
7.5 Good
Pros: Great staff, excellent food- catered for vegans.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was a beautiful haven of peaceful relaxation and everything was just such a wonderful experience. The outdoor bath was so amazing as was the room and traditional breakfast. Thank you.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Delicious meal, excellent service, good and tidy environment!!!
Cons: A bit far away from JR. it will be better if driving yourself. Nearby shops close early. Please better plan your meal earlier or eat in the hostel:) (good meal by the way;))
7.9 Good
Pros: Good experience in a really traditional setting.
Cons: Wi-Fi only available in the lounge, and lounge is closed after 11.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast and dinner were absolutely fabulous. Rooms were Japanese style and were good.
Cons: Nothing
5.8 Okay
Pros: The breakfast was very elaborate and delicious.
Cons: The place is a little old and it doesn’t come with onsen bath, only a tiny family bathroom.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Well we certainly had a unique experience at this fine Ryokan. Our room was very nice with comfortable double bed (western style) but with a tub / shower outdoors on our private porch. Tub supplied by local hot water (but no too hot). We were prepared delicious and gracious vegetarian meals. (Eating Japanese style). Very welcoming staff and with decent English. Free WIFI in bar. Free parking. Very special.
7.1 Good
Pros: It’s the right place for one to experience traditional Japanese ryokan. Great atmosphere and attentive friendly staffs.
Cons: Everything is a bit worn. Sound of heater fan is very loud and disturbing in my room. Dressing area of indoor bath too cold.

Pros: Comfort family hotel, not that I can tell from your web site! Little old and the hot springs didn’t seem to be within the hotel facilities! I’m general, an old fashioned japan motel!
Cons: Hot springs were not what I expected, small and not very old!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Our family stayed in the Japanese-style room for three for one night. The room size is bigger than many other hotels in Japan. it's a Japanese style room with three tatamis, a japanese styple sitting area plus a western coffee table with two chairs (it's convenient for those can't sit long on the floor), a dressing corner and a toilet. I was shocked when i found no bath room in our room and soon understand that guests living here must go to enjoy the onsen, so we guessed bath room facilities would provide there. Every guest is invited to choose their favourite kimono (Japanese traditional clothings) including male. It's a fun to choose with your family together. you can match your own belt after you pick your kimono. We drove out for dinner, when returned it's around 9pm, we just tried our luck to see if we can engage a private onsen for our family. And we were lucky to have one in no additional charge. A simple bathroom is attached together in the family onsen room. The family onsen room is nice, face to a small private yard and we saw the bright moon in the sky. There has some paid private onsen room too, check with the reception if you need. The buffet breakfast is nice too, worth for the money because of it's quality food, most are Japanese food, however, we love Japanese food. It's a family friendly hotel with many children facilities. There is a big supermarket in short driving distance (966 Uchinomaki, Aso-shi) but close at 9pm daily. A small van parked outside the supermarket selling Japanese BBQ meat, we tried and very nice.
Cons: although they have two parking lots, but not that enough. As it's not easy to get there by public transport, most guests drive.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Breakfast was ok. Japanese and western style Buffett. Due to a Taifun, we wanted to add dinner in the hotel - however the staff told us it would cost 10.800 yen (=100€) extra per person.
Cons: The rooms do not look like on the picture. We had double room with private bath and the room was dirty and used. They even gave us a dirty bed sheet. Room was very small. WiFi only available in public area but did not work at all. Hotel looks disappointing from outside. Location not nice.
7.1 Good
Pros: Very nice place
Cons: Traditional hotel
2.9 Mediocre
Pros: Great location in the Aso geo park, Onsen baths and Yakata included, traditional rattan floors and futons, helpful and friendly staff,
Cons: Finding it is tricky with road closures and it needs a bit of an update
7.1 Good
Pros: I like the surrounding area
Cons: The outdoor Onsen was under maintenance
9.2 Excellent
Pros: I like the room private onsen pool very much! We had a slight traffic accident before came check-in this hotel. And the reception uncle was fluent in English, and the manger both helped us to call car rent company and the police, translated Japanese to English. We finally had settled down the trouble and continued next day place to visit. May I thank you the hotel once again .
6.7 Good
Pros: Karaoke, ping pong and mother activities are included in the price.
Cons: Typical Japanese - we meet friends and family - hotel. Pretty old and crowded.

Pros: Beautiful scenery with golf course and mountains.
Cons: None.

Pros: Breakfast is good
5.1 Okay
Pros: The Onsen (spa) was quite nice. It was very quiet.
Cons: We took this hotel because everything else was booked out. We didn't know that it is a golf hotel and that it is very far from the actual town Aso. The staff had no clue about activities outside the hotel and could hardly speak any English. This hotel is good if you are above 50, have a car and want to play golf. Otherwise it's too far away from town and has very poor connection to public transport.
6.7 Good
Cons: Beds were very uncomfortable and hard to sleep on.
6.7 Good
Pros: Onsen
Cons: Room too small, the dinner was too expensive because the time of our group was second round with less food,
6.7 Good
Pros: Twin room is big n neat. Buffet dinner has wide variety n need to pay for 4000 yen per person. Buffet breakfast is included in the room rate. Staff is approachable n willing to help. There is 36 holes golf course n the view is beautiful.
Cons: Need a car to the hotel. Tour groups staying in the resort. Therefore busy at the dinner buffet. Go for 6pm or 6.30pm buffet cos they didn’t replenish much after 7pm. Only one indoor onsen pool n 2 small outdoors. Room is out dated n needs some renovation.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Love the onsen, especially the outdoor onsen, and the green surroundings (It has a golf course!)
Cons: A little away from everything so driving is necessary to get to shops, restaurants.
7.1 Good
Pros: The views is nice for photo taking.
Cons: The staff didn't give a correct information on the Onsen facilities and the timing of the opening. We need to find out ourselves.
7.1 Good
Pros: Quiet
Cons: Far from main road
9.2 Excellent
Cons: Hot spring is not clean. There are bugs inside.
6.7 Good
Pros: Good hot spring
Cons: The air condition isn’t function

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Have been to many hot spring resorts/hotels in Japan and Aso Plaza Hotel offers great hot spring with magnificent view at its 7th floor outdoor onsen. Furthermore, the 1st floor onsen is spacious and clean. Breakfast was sumptuous too. Highly recommended.
7.5 Good
Pros: Spa was very nice. and breakfast was good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent breakfast, nice view especially the outdoor public bath. Room size is just average for a 4-people family, bathroom is a little bit small. Staff are so friendly, the best place to stay in Aso city
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The best Onsen Hotel i had ever stay in Japan. Our room was upgraded from std room to Kumamon tatami room on 6th floor with a minimal fee. The view of the Rice field with the mountains backdrop was awesome & breathtaking. The staffs are really friendly and tried their best to serve us although they barely speak English. Good Wide spread of breakfast . Uniquely, The staffs fixed our Futon mattress everyday about 6pm . The indoor and outdoor onsen were well equipped, superb and clean. There’s additional fee of 600 yen chargeable fr Onsen facility. Enjoyed every moment of it. There’s shuttle service to the train station . Ample Carpark available
Cons: We requested for high floor but was given 2 nd floor as the hotel rooms are all fully booked. Abit noisy from some event held in the convention hall. Otherwise all are great !
7.9 Good
Pros: The staff are very friendly and helpful. The onsen is also good.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location is good, room is big, dinner and breakfast is good and delicious!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The View
7.9 Good
Pros: The rooftop onsen had quite an enjoyable view! The hotel is situated near convenience stores as well!
Cons: The hotel looks rather old and dated, it's probably time to refurnish! Service wise, it was good but probably not up to the level of personalized service that we received at other Ryokans.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Offer many onsen option - option 1: roof top (indoor and outdoor) and option 2: Ground level onsen - huge bath area and offers both indoor and outdoor. Offer tatami room which offers great view of mountain surrounding it. The milk ice-cream at the entrance is milky and taste great!
Cons: Nil
6.7 Good
Pros: The Location, very easy to find, just beside the main road
Cons: the size of the bed room, is too small for 3 adult + 3 luggage.

7.1 Good
Pros: Good location for Aso volcano
Cons: It was a bit dated, in need of decorating. It was quite noisy.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Nice staff, changed room without hesitation after some issues mentioned.
Cons: The tidiness. There were hairs everywhere in the bathroom and stains all over the carpet and sofa. The smell in the bathroom was pretty bad.
6.7 Good
Pros: Cool room, little far from the station but all the hotels are quite far from the station. Bathroom is from nineties and so is the hotel but it was comfortable. The restaurant is very nice aswel for dinner as for breakfast!
Cons: Aso is a tourist trap, there are like three busses in a whole day that do return to kumamoto so people tend to stay in aso itself for longer hikes which drives the prices of these hotels way up because they can!
4.2 Okay
Cons: The hotel is a bit far from the JR station and there is no shuttle offered by the hotel. For travelers who are taking public transport, it is not so convenient. The onsen is small and lack of maintenance. There isn't much choice of restaurant in the hotel or around the hotel. We have to stick with the buffet dinner in the hotel; and the food does not value for the money we paid.
3.0 Mediocre
Cons: No shuttle service. No English explanation on anything, you supposed to guess what’s where and how to get there. Poor customer experience in general. Especially when I compare it to other spa resorts of the same level of stars and price I had in Japan.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: This cottage was perfect for our trip to Kurosawa onsen, we stayed 2 nights in this wonderful fully equipped cottage in the mountain/woods. The host was so helpful before we arrived giving us lots of information about the onsen hopping passes and the surrounding area. When we arrived we had a very warm welcome by the lovely couple that own the cottages, giving us lots of lovely treats and games to play. The cottage was very comfortable, kitted out with TV, bath/shower and fully functioning kitchen. As there are not many restaurants in the area it's best to do a big food shop and cook breakfast and dinner yourself. There is a lovely seating area outside where you can eat or have a BBQ. (Have to hire the BBQ before you arrive) We would advise that you need a car to reach Kurokawa onsen as well at this cottage as it's located a short drive from the village. All round wonderful stay and one of our favourite parts of Japan. The host made us feel so welcome and wanted to ensure we had the best time.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was amazing, super friendly, kind, helpfull
Cons: Nothing, it was perfect!!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The owner is very friendly, she used translate machine to communicate with us.
Cons: If do not have own vehicle, difficult to reached it. As the cottage located far from the sightseeing and hotspring area.
7.5 Good
Pros: Very nice host, welcoming. The room is actually a small cottage house made of wood. Has kitchen facilities, a bath and a bathroom. Sleeping on a mat on the floor (still can't get why japanese like it so much- why not invest in a real bed..). Take into account you need a car to get here.
7.9 Good
Pros: It's a good place if you're travelling on a budget, with a family or a group of friends and have a car! But the owner was nice enough to drive us to the bus station.
Cons: You definitely need a car! We were there for 1 night (not really ideal) and there was a huge group of young students partying in the other cabins and the grounds. They were making a huge amount of noise during the day and at night!
6.7 Good
Pros: Lovely place. Great to be able to unwind and spend time in such a beautiful area. It was an ideal location for going to the rugby in Oita but also for visiting the onsen in Kurokawa. Despite the negatives, we enjoyed our stay here and would recommend.
Cons: There was hardly any consideration for Western needs. No knives or forks, no furniture at all - despite the confirmation stating that futons were in place. It was sit on the floor, or outside on the deck... There was also nowhere to put any clothing - we had to use our suitcase. I know, most travellers do, but we were there for 3 nights and moving around Japan, so it would've been nice to be able to sort our stuff...
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great place with everything you need.

Overview Reviews
Located in Aso, Tabinoyado Asonoyu is a 4-minute drive from Hanaasobi Garden and 9 minutes from Cuddly Dominion. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
6.7 Good
Pros: Staff were very helpful and friendly. They even had a parking space reserved in anticipation of our arrival. Plenty of visual and multi-language guides for how to use onsen, wear yukata, and lay out your futon (my favourite was Kumamon showing how to use the onsen). Some good restaurants and bars within 10-15 minutes walking distance. Decor was nice. Onsen was good.
Cons: In order to shower you must go to the onsen. It felt a bit pricey, but the price occupies a nice middle ground in the Aso area somewhere between a hostel (cheap) and a high end hotel or high end ryokan (insanely expensive). Parents complained about the futons being thin, I didn’t notice to be honest, I slept like a babby.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The outdoor bath is highly enjoyable
Cons: The dinner is simple but adequate.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Cheap ryokan and a good choice to visit Aso. Typical rooms and you can come back all night. Mainly young people there.
