THE HOTEL Located in a spectacular sunny bay of Switzerland’s Lake Maggiore along a tranquil parkland setting next to one of Europe’s finest golf courses, Giardino Ascona, with its 54 rooms and 16 suites, is awash in Mediterranean joie de vivre. Here, Tuscan-style villas are surrounded by a garden where the broom blooms in an intensive yellow, the scent of lavender and mimosa sweeps across the green, and water lilies open their blossoms on the lake. This peaceful venue is deliciously augmented by a two-star Michelin restaurant and a world-class spa focused on Ayurveda cures and therapies that preserve one’s health holistically. MADE BY ORIGINALS Daniela and Philippe Frutiger have a deep connection to the Giardino Hotel Group that stretches back to their chance encounter at the group’s first property in Ascona in 1994. Since then, the Frutigers have transformed the Swiss brand to include three hotels and a beauty and cosmetics line. Philippe comes from a culinary background and was educated in hotel management in his homeland of Switzerland, while Daniela is a trained beautician and pharmacist who handles the spa operations and interior design. ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN Inspired by the Italian region of Tuscany, the 1980s-built, fully renovated structure is enveloped by a lush landscape that offers picturesque water features, a pool, and a garden of lavender, olive trees, and lemon trees. Interiors are dressed in a light Mediterranean design embodied by old-wood parquet floors, brightly colored materials, and earth tones, while balconies and terraces draw attention to the hotel’s stunning location.
