Pros: We visit the lakes a lot and would definitely stay at St Johns Lodge again, it was a lovely guest house, very homely, lovely decor throughout, excellent location for both Bowness and Windermere and the hosts were just great, very warm and welcoming. The options for breakfast were plentiful and the food was the best I have ever had and I have stayed in many hotels and guest houses 4 & 5* and this really beats them. Gail & Colin

Pros: Beautiful modern room which was warm and cosy with an extremely comfortable bed. The room was cleaned daily to a very high standard. The breakfast was absolutely delicious and the eating area was again spotless. The hosts Jackie and Steve were lovely down to earth genuine people that couldn’t do enough for you.

Pros: Just returned from an excellent weekend in the Lakes, at Jackie and Steve’s B&B. They are such a lovely and welcoming couple - we had a great time. The room was spacious and clean and was only a 5 minute walk into the centre. Breakfast was excellent (I would recommend the pancakes!). Will definitely be coming back and would recommend anyone stays there on their next trip. Thanks again!

The hosts were such lovely, genuine people and did everything they could to make our stay perfect! Breakfast was delicious and the homemade cakes were an extra special touch! The location of the property was fab, a 5/10 minute walk to all the shops and restaurants, the lake is also very close!

Pros: Great welcome by Richard, one of the owners. As it was 6pm when we got there we had missed 'tea and cakes' so they left cake in our room which was a lovely touch. The room (room 5) was very clean, comfy and warm. The location was excellent, just a few minutes walk into Windermere and a 1 mile walk to Bowness. The breakfast was lovely too, all home cooked and the best poached eggs I have had! Would highly recommend.

Cons: We paid for a superior double at nearly 40 pounds extra but the room was not a great deal different for the price of a normal room. Unfortunately you could hear the room next door and above which was not great. However the hotel is away from the road and we enjoyed our stay and the hospitality. Maybe a little over priced for the room and the noise issue.

Cons: Parking Was tight as another car was blocking way but we managed to get space in the end. The coffee at breakfast could be stronger or a different brand as it wasn’t very tasty unfortunately, but the tea was lovely .

It was really cold during our stay and we would have loved to have been able to throw an extra blanket on at night when required.

Cons: The heating when cooling/off at night was very loud in the room we were staying in. Could not sleep, called staff at 1am, they tried to resolve it but said they could not, I asked to sleep in another room which we did but not the comfortable night sleep I was looking forward too. In the morning I asked to check out later as I had disturbed sleep and so checked out at 12:30. However was not offered a discount so still paid £175 for a room that was too noisy to sleep in and I was told by reception in the morning that it was probably due to us not turning down the heating correctly and that it takes time for the noise to go,despite us trying to sleep with the noise for about an hour.

The room was very small and silly things that are easily fixed would have improved our rating. Such as hairs in the shower. The soap dispenser in the shower, broken. Light Bulb missing from a bedside lamp. The bed mattress was so soft, we were both restless in the night and both woke with back ache. We were charged £87 for the night. In fairness, I think this is excessive, even for the area. A charge around £65 might be more appropriate. The short and early timing for breakfast on a Sunday was a little restrictive. We use B&B's and Hotel's on a regular basis and unfortunately this property came up short. Of course, I cannot comment on the other rooms. We were in room No 1

Pros: The location of the guest house was very convenient. It was about 10min walk from Windermere station and a couple of mins from nearest bus stop (we were relying on public transport). It was placed near the high street with restaurants, cafes and convenience stores nearby. The guest house itself was quite clean and the breakfast was good. The owner was accommdating to allow us to leave the buggy in lounge and also to leave back our luggage (until evening) after we checked out.
Cons: The room size we stayed in did seem a bit compact. There was no shower gel in the bath, having one would have been great.

Pros: The ladies at breakfast were lovely and very accommodating. The food was nice and portions adequate.
Cons: I was bitten by something on the first night, could be bedbugs. I should have reported it with hindsight to give the owners a chance to discuss the issue. The breakfast hours were restrictive but not a hassle personally. If I fancied an early hike then it would have been.

Pros: A very quaint B&B, beautifully decorated for the festive season. A lovely little bar in the lounge area gave it that added touch. The owners were extremely welcoming even though booking.com failed to inform them that we had altered our stay to 2 nights not 1! Breakfast was perfect, the staff were great. Both my Mum & I had an exceptionally comfortable nights sleep. The location couldn’t be better, close to pubs, restaurants & shops. We will definitely be back.

Cons: The check in is such a silly time between 4pm and 9pm who wants to arrive for a break away that late for a start then expect you to check out between 9am and 10pm when breakfast is served between that time i felt poorly that morning so we ended up checking out late and the host was not happy about it at all.Then butter for the breakfast had hairs in it so obviously we didnt eat the toast or butter at all there was no taste in the tiny one sausage you got the one slice of bacon was dry got one small spoon fall of beans scrambled egg no taste the only thing that tasted good was the one cooked tomato the wasnt even a table cloth on the very old wobbly dining room tables that didnt even feel safe to eat on our chairs wobbled to like they were going to collapse we came away from the breakfast table hungry and very disappointed . It was suppose to have a ensuite bathroom in every room it was the smallest ensuite we had ever seen could just about fit one person in it , it was that small my boyfreind banged his arm quite badly drying himself . For nearly £90 for 1 night we would not recommend to stay here at all the whole stay was very poor.

Cons: The cleanliness. The hotel was old, dirty and felt musty. Towels were stained and there was dust on skirting boards and dirty tissue behind the bedside table. The bathroom was being updated and modernised which was good. However the hotel needs renovating and updating.
