Location and grounds are nice around the golf course.
The customer service is lacking. The staff, especially the front desk, are not empowered to make adjustments to reservations or acclimation when traveling with a group. Policies seem to be above customer service experiences.
The staff was pleasant and the location was pleasantly quiet at night.
There were enough flying bugs to start a zoo. This isn't anything the resort can fix. I'm simply used to visiting water locations in the winter when animals are scarcer.
Great time
Great value and a great place!
Great getaway! Would have stayed longer.
Overall facilities and rooms were clean and well kept. Food and activity options were plentiful and the location (and the resort's free shuttle service) makes all the area attractions easy to get to.
High end Family friendly resort
The overall setting of the resort is beautifully surrounded by the river and green, the low rise housing helped preserve the scenery from every angle. We stayed there during the Thanksgiving weekend with our grade schooler sharing a king size bed comfortably on the first floor. The room is sized a typical hotel room with a patio facing a pond, which I enjoyed the most. The closet was unusually larger, you can fit 2 suitcases in there. The amenity is normal, that's why I did not rate it 'luxurious' but it's clean and sufficient with body wash, shampoo and conditioning;, the interior design of the bathroom is on the high end than other typical Hilton or Marriott, but is sized smaller than I would have liked. Each room has a Kerug with 6 pods and they fill it up everyday. No problem getting on wifi. The shuttle service is excellent - we used it exclusively to travel between Busch Garden and the resort - the shuttle also take you directly to your building if requested, they really eager to take around the resort. indoor pool is smaller than I would have liked but there were 20+ kids there so it felt crowded. But the changing area is on the high end side, very clean, plenty of towel supply, whirlpool, steam room, sauna included. Every staff we encounter are very friendly. Buffet breakfast in Element 1010 and lunch at Eagle restaurant, both of which were good experiences. Everything worked out really well. It is priced a bit higher than others in the area but i feel that I get what I paid for, it's worth the value. We definitely will go back in the summer and possibly in Nov/December again.
Can't really pick any Cons - I guess I would have liked a bigger indoor pool so the kids are not jammed together.
The landscaping and setting are truly one of a kind. The staff is all very friendly, from the house-cleaners to the concierge service. The on site restaurants, especially the one at the marina, are top shelf. Truly some of the best food we have ever eaten.
It is pricey. The cost for a single night stay was double that of staying at another location not much further away. I am not sure if the amenities warrant the cost.

With plenty of family-friendly activities in place, this hotel is the perfect location for a family vacation. At the marina, families can benefit from kayaking and paddle boards, whereas the golf courses feature junior programs that teach your child age-appropriately. A seasonal kids’ camp allows children to check in for a day of entertainment and fun and gives parents the opportunity for some rest. Babysitting services as part of their Parent’s Night Out program are available, too, which means you can enjoy dinner for two while your kid is entertained with the onsite arcade, movie night, pool games, and much more.
Guests who cannot decide what to go for can start off with the spa’s bespoke Sampler Massage that incorporates a little bit of everything. Teenagers enjoy special attention at this spa with their tailored wellness menu for teens aged 12-16. If you want to have more in one go, book the Custom spa package to create a perfect and unique pamper day.
Boasting 15 tennis courts and a professional tennis academy onsite, this accommodation is the ideal destination to pursue this recreational sport. Private tennis lessons can be arranged for your convenience, too. At the well-equipped fitness center, guests can participate in complimentary classes, ranging from Spinning to Aquafit. For aquatic sports at the marina, the concierge can arrange Jet Ski rentals and fishing poles, if required.
Quite a few meeting and event spaces spread across the hotel premises and are at the guests’ disposal for banquets, weddings, and work events. Their 16,000 sq ft of event space is flexible and adaptable and most rooms overlook the scenic James River. The James River Grand Ballroom has a total size of over 6,000 sq ft for 600 people but can be divided into four smaller subsections. Equally lavish, but a little smaller in size, is the Burwell Ballroom with 4,000 sq ft. At the conference level, guests will find well-appointed meeting rooms of various sizes, but all with modern equipment.
Elements 1010 is the resort’s main restaurant that offers a casual and family-friendly atmosphere. Serving breakfast and à la carte menus in the evening, guests can enjoy gourmet choices that range from lobster and pork chop to foie gras and fish. Snacks, coffee, and sweet delights await in the Mill café, adjacent to the tennis courts. Here, guests can also have a lunch packed for their day outside. Eagles is the golf course restaurant but invites guests who don’t play golf as well. Al fresco dining is possible in the outdoor patio, and there is also a bar.
