Stayed in female dormitory on floor 4. The atmosphere was modern and clean and was comfortable for a solo traveler. The hostel is extremely compact, but doesn't feel over crowded. It was nice to have the toilet and shower in one room because it was possible to change clothes and do makeup and take a shower -- basically to have a private bathroom, so privacy over all was good. I was worried that it would be difficult to find a bathroom at peak hours (after 9 pm). I was lucky both nights that I stayed to find one available. Morning was a little more difficult. In order to prevent backup waiting for bathrooms you were able to go to any floor if your floor was full. Breakfast was light, so do not expect a hearty meal. You have to sign in with your room number before you start. The kitchen and dining area was small, but well organized with color coordinated utensils and dishware. There was a fridge for visitors to use and a an area to leave addressed postcards to friends and family. I believe you could purchase stamps at the desk. Signs were posted in kitchen, bathroom and hallways regarding proper procedures (wash your dishes, quiet after certain hours etc.) Beds were comfortable and private with the shade. Two sets of lights-one above pillow and one ambient. Lockers were large enough for several bags. Location was wonderful. Easy to find as the property is located on the street. A few minutes walk from the airport bus station and Taipei Station, it was surrounded by shops including stationary and book stores, a 7-11 right up the street and a larger shopping area down the street. Uniqlo, Daiso and Ximending were within walking distance. I stayed two and would have liked to have stayed a third. It's the perfect place for your first few nights or your last few.
While the steps to prevent bathroom back up were appreciated, it also applied to the female dormitory floor, so that meant male guest could access the bathrooms there as well. It's not a real problem if you are prepared for it. Just so you know if you are accustomed to waltzing around with bedhead and skimpy pajamas. In the kitchen, the silverware and dishes are above the sink, so its hard to access them if other people are washing things. The kitchen/dining area is also exposed to the street by windows, so does't feel very private especially at night. Not a problem if you don;t mind people watching you eat. Design of the bunks was aesthetic but functionally awkward. With my upper bunk (requested) I had to reach way over to the lights over a fixed metal bar. Others have commented on the shades the make bunks private. The privacy was nice, but it was difficult to use the pulley system, so many people didn't even bother to pull it down all the way. I think that if they had a sort a hook or catch on the wall to prop it up with, then it would be much more user friendly. As it was, It was easier to go under the shade instead of pulling it up and down every time you wanted to go out. The white carpets showed signs of wear. A no shoes policy would have been nice, but perhaps not practical with the space limitations. Overall my stay was good, and two to three nights was perfect for me. Because of these small things, though, I think it would be uncomfortable to stay a whole week.
Location ! The bar in the hostel was great and there was a kitchen where we could snack ourselves.
Like most hostels in Taiwan a bit on the expensive side.
Location is good but noisy.
