The location is great. You can walk to all the main sites in the city and there are lots of restaurants nearby. The annex building we were in was quiet. The meals were good, but very overwhelming due to the set-up. Good value if you are staying in a dorm room, but not a good choice if you’re looking for a private room (see my dislikes). The annex space included a kitchen, but unfortunately there was not a single pot (we looked everywhere) and there was only 1 fork.
The hostel is trying to offer too many things and has too many beds. The meals are not enjoyable, because you have 50 people packed into one dining space that can accommodate 30. People are pushing and shoving. The set-up in the annex is there are Soviet-era apartments that they have converted to 1 dorm room and 1 “private” room with a shared bathroom and kitchen. The bathroom in our apartment was extremely dirty, because water gets on the floor from the shower and shoes are allowed in the entire unit. Everyday, and at all hours, people from the dorm room would try to enter our “private” room, because it wasn’t clear that it is a private room (no room number on the doors or anything to identify the space as private). Too many people are in the space to share 1 bathroom. The dorm room holds 6-8 people and our “double” room also had a bunk bed, so in theory there could be 10-12 people sharing 1 bathroom. This doesn’t work since it’s not even convenient to walk to the main building if you need to pee. This place is not a good value for a private room. Lastly, the staff seemed understandably overwhelmed from dealing with all the people checking in/out, asking questions, and making requests. The hostel needs to simplify their offerings and decrease the number of beds, because the quality of the experience is suffering terribly.
The location was perfect. I went to Sofia to attend a convention but from the Hostel I could walk to downtown and take advantage to visit all the major tourist attractions. The accommodation is simple but correct, breakfast is decent. Overall very good value for money. I also used the pick-up service from the airport and it worked perfectly
I had an individual room that was separated from the main hostel. Coming back at night to the building by myself was a little intimidating.
Lovely location and great staff
This hostel has a very social atmosphere. They serve breakfast and dinner (beer included). There is a pub crawl every night and a free computer to use. This hostel was suggested by a friend and I really enjoyed it.
The beds were not the best. I was in a building across the street.
The location was good, close to most main sights. Also, quite a few restaurants around that area.
The atmosphere wasn't the greatest in the hostel. Also, during breakfast time, it was just too packed. And the hostel didn't even seem at maximum capacity, so I don't want to imagine what that's like. The private rooms are ok but not great. It smelled of cigarettes in my room which wasn't great. You can hear literally everything from the other rooms in the same apartment (private rooms are basically one apartment with multiple rooms and one bathroom). The windows are facing a busy main road with a tram line on it. Overall, I didn't think it was the most amazing value for money. But I think for people with a low budget the dorms can be an option.
