Pool I liked the reviews of a couple of years ago, must have been a good place in a forgotten history.
This is by far the worst hostel we have ever seen. We value service and a customer-friendly attitude very high and we care less for quality of the room. The service is dreadfull and oppurtunistic. Staff was not helpfull, unknowing (they ignored special requests and did not know we also booked breakfast) and not eager to help. They were only eager when they saw a chance of moneymaking (they charge for eveything, fan, airco, rides). They were really jumping on us to give us Tuk Tuk drives, to charge us high afterwards, and not informing us before). We stayed for two reasons: 1) we had no time to change to another place, and 2) our booking was non-refundable, so we were the ones to pay when we would have changed. There is a big attitude problem at this place. We were forced to accept a different room than booked. It was not only different, but also had problems. We were promised at least four times that the boss would come to help us out. We never saw the boss. The boss fortunately responded in a message of is in booking.com, but literately told us to go to an other accomodation if we didn't like this room. If that is the attitude of the owner, than he should not be in the hostel business. He does not care for his customers, only for money. Finally, the beds should have been renewed years ago, water is cold, you can only pay cash (the bank shut their card services down)(payment took us an hour, because, 'of course' they lacked informing us and blamed us for not having cash while we were leaving the country), our door was left open after cleaning (in a country were lots is stolen). Etcetera. And I dit not mention the other problems yet... Just avoid booking this place to protect yourself and your holiday.
The location was good, only 15 minute walk from the night market and Pub Street. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The pool was clean and refreshing.
The pool area was very nice and clean. They gave us new towels and cleaned our rooms everyday. The location was perfect for us, a bit away from the noisy center but close enough to walk or take a cheap tuktuk. The food on the hostel was cheap and satisfying. Especially, the breakfast was very good.
reakfast was ok. Location not great since you are away from the downtown area
Checking in was not very good. The hotel attendant first told us that we did not have a reservation. The half an hour later after doing a phone call. he found our reservation. The room we stayed did not have A/C and was not secure. The window coul not be locked. It would have been easy to break in..
Everything else about the hotel was excellent. The breakfast was very filling and the female staff were very friendly. The rooms were cleaned every day to a great standard and the pool was cleaned every night without fail! Definitely would visit again.
On arrival we were greeted with a tuk tuk driver rather than anyone who officially worked for the hotel. This made it difficult as we were given a 2nd floor room, we have a 3 year old, with a lock that didn't lock! It took quite a while to explain and then change to a ground floor room!
