The front desk staff were great, they couldn't help us more if they tried. The price was great, the rooms were clean and the location is close to Disneyland and the hotel offered a free bus drop off and pick up to Disneyland.
We didn't really enjoy the breakfast but that's OK. The biggest problem was that there is a sister hotel by the same name that doesn't accept foreigners and we were given the wrong number for the pick up and this nearly caused a problem. But it was solved soon enough.
The hotel was clean and comfortable, and great value for money. Easy-to-read instructions were provided prior to check-in, via email, which made the entire experience simpler. I cannot speak Chinese. However, I was comfortable with how the check-in experience was handled.
This was only a minor nuisance but we had an issue with the shuttle service, since text messages to the service number were declined. However, the alternative instructions we were provided (which was to call an alternative number from the passenger service desk) allowed us to arrange pick-up with little effort - only slight confusion on my part because I do not speak Chinese.
You get what you pay for..no faults here. About 10-15mins by car to the nearest subway station. From there, its about 45mins to East Nanjing Road on the 2 train. Front desk staff exceptionally helpful in giving directions. Wonderful reception staff and decent hotel ruined by the hotel driver.
The Hotel driver was terrible. Incident 1: We needed a ride to the nearby subway stop to get to Shanghai city. Hotel driver kept trying to convince us to take his vehicle to the city for a flat charge of RMB 400 for 2 passengers (for reference, PVG to Jingan is ~RMB 200 one way). We politely declined. Driver's response was to berate us on the time we needed to get to the city by subway (he mentioned 2 hours) and claimed he would get us there in 50mins. We ended up taking the subway for RMB 6/person and arrived about 1 hour later. Incident 2: Reception quoted RMB 50 for a ride to the airport using the hotel's driver (equivalent taxi fare was ~RMB 40) at 930pm on a Saturday night. Once we were enroute, driver said price was RMB 80 instead, and mentioned that he was asleep and had to get out of bed to send us. As we were in a rush, I agreed to it and added "sorry for troubling you to get out of bed to send us to the airport" as a courtesy. Driver replied "since you got me out of bed, you will need to pay RMB 100 instead". To be clear, I was fine paying whatever amount as long as they were being upfront about it from the beginning. Completely speechless.
Left us for an hour and a half in the cold waiting for their "immediate" shuttle. Freezing cold room, no instructions for heating in any language. Rude receptionist. Staff blowing smoke on us.
The shuttle service was extremely convenient as the driver arrived 15 minutes after we texted him and helped us with the luggage. Otherwise, the round trip on a taxi (or DiDi) to the hotel would cost at least 100 RMB. The trip back to the airport took 15 minutes. The bed and pillows were comfortable. The staff was friendly and spoke some English.
There was no toothbrush and toothpaste disposable kit. The carpet in the room and the bathroom floor could have been cleaner.
