Excellent location, just a few minutes' walk from the Metro station at Jing'an Temple, at the north-west corner of the charming 'French Concession' area. Stout windows make it remarkably quiet (the thundering Yan'an Elevated Highway is visible just a couple of hundred metres away, but you can barely hear a thing). However, there is currently a construction site nearby, where the work seems to start at 6.45am every day with the dropping of piles of metal scaffolding poles! Very good blackout curtains (a real rarity in China) - although, unfortunately, they don't quite fit the window, so you get quite a lot of early morning light bleeding in around the edges. Room size is comparable to a typical hotel suite, but with an added kitchenette; and the decor is quite nice, with dark wood furniture and flooring. Good facilities: fairly fast wi-fi (although connecting to a VPN is currently near-impossible), a good washing-machine, nice desk/dining table, and a very comfortable bed (firm mattress; soft, fluffy pillows). Helpful staff, most of whom speak pretty good English.
The bathroom is very cramped (washbasin right up against the wall!). Water from the boiler became scaldingly hot - dangerous! An engineer promptly came to adjust my thermostat for me, but the hot water supply remained much hotter than it needs to be. This could be quite a serious problem. The A/C is a bit antiquated. It works OK, and is suprisingly not too noisy; but in my room, the air output was at least 3 or 4 degrees Celsius warmer than indicated - so, you need to set the target temperature at or below 20 C for it to have any effect. The desk/dining table is an odd arrangement: it has only two legs, the other end being secured only by small clips resting on the edge of the adjoining shelf unit - it is dangerously easy to make the whole thing collapse by moving one leg just a few centimetres. The building itself does not create a great impression: it is one of the older tower blocks in central Shanghai, and now appears rather dusty and rundown - decor in the corridors is really quite shabby.
The location is amazing, just by Jingan Temple. Wi-fi speed was good enough to work on my laptop from the apartment, which is important in China. Bedsheets are changed daily, as well as towels.
The old furniture in the room makes it a bit depressive to stay inside the apartment.
Wifi was ineffective. No English speaking Tv Rooms were a little tired and didn’t relect photos on the website
Small things like 2 fresh bottles everyday don't seem like much but it is the little cherry on top, we had an amazing stay
Good location super nice staff
Furnaces and curtains etc need an update
