A terrific hotel, awesome (small) pool, a good bar and great rooms - once you're inside! Not quite as 'rock and roll' as it's made out to be - and that's fine! A relaxing oasis amid a pretty dodgy part of town...
The immediate area (Tenderloin) is pretty grim, with lots of fairly hardcore junky action occurring right on the doorstep (literally). It didn't seem actually dangerous, but still, this district is not for the faint-hearted. Speaks to San Francisco's problems as much as the hotel's, to be fair - crazy how expensive this city is, and how troubled much of it feels
Environment Outsider the Hotel...
Staff was friendly and attentive. Really cool vibe and it was a perfect warm day. Any questions we had they answered to accommodate as much as possible. Check-in time 3:00PM local Check-out time 12:00PM local (which is an hour later than most hotels).
The design, the history, the friendly staff
I’d have liked a coffee machine in the room The Tenderloin area is a bit rough (nothing the hotel can do about that!)
Wonderful accommodation with character. The vibe is unique. The pool and layout provide an oasis within the city. The staff are helpful and friendly. The food in the adjoining restaurant is excellent.
Although security at the Phoenix is reassuring, the surroundings are unsafe: especially at night. The streets are home to many people living on the streets. The difficulties facing people that are homeless are evident including drug use, poverty, and mental and physical health issues. A sad reflection of inner city life rather than the Phoenix.
The San Francisco Phoenix Hotel is located in the very heart of the Tenderloin neighborhood and it is considered to be a fantastic cultural icon of the locals as well is a longtime favorite for the rock 'n roll set. Guests can easily reach it from the airport via taxi, shuttle, or private transportation. It has plenty of variety when it comes to both dining options and rooms available, and as such, it can accommodate a large array of travelers.
Phoenix Hotel has many nearby venues that are great to visit while visiting the area. For example, the San Francisco Museum of Art is only a mile away, as is the Fisherman's Wharf. Travelers can also check out the famous Island Alcatraz, drop in on the Palace of fine arts or visit any number of nearby historical sites and parks.
In terms of accommodations, Phoenix Hotel has options such as a king room, a king suite, a poolside suite and ADA room and suite options. Depending on the room or suite type, they can come with coffeemakers, large flat screen TVs, sitting spaces, refrigerators, telephones, safes, and more. The hotel is also proud to offer corporate meeting spaces and rooms to help those who have business needs.
The restaurant, Chambers, at Phoenix Hotel has a seasonal menu that is carefully put together by Chef Nick Andoe. Dinner, weekend brunch, and cocktails can be served inside or outside on the pool's poolside patio. Chambers will gladly seat guests ranging from couples to large parties. So whether a person is coming with friends and family or they simply want to enjoy some time alone with that someone special, Phoenix Hotel is there to meet their needs.
