Pancakes every morning. Amazing staff! Enjoyed my stay at the hostel! Would go back any time! :)
Staff excellent, activities great. Very welcoming of solo travellers, everyone friendly and great atmosphere on the porch.
This is being picky, though it is a bit of a hike to get to the laundromat. Onsite washing facilities would be a bonus, though overall it has everything you need.
The hostel was located in the downtown area, 10-15 min walking distance to the public transportation and to many shops, restaurants and bars. Location was for discovering the city center. The mattress and the pillows provided were comfortable enough to sleep on. You could meet with new people in the common areas. If you have no intention to get a good night sleep, and if you only want to party and need a place to crash somewhere cheap, this can be your choice.
On the other hand, if you need to get some sleep during normal sleeping hours (at night), you can forget about it at his hostel. Although they claim that the quiet hours are from 12 pm- 8 am, it is not enforced. I tried to communicate with the people after my second night asking for some improvement and they assured me that the quiet hours were and will be enforced (supposedly from 11 pm), I could still hear someone playing the PIANO at 12:30 that night. There goes my night sleep. And this was the Sunday night, I don’t even want to mention how Saturday night was. You can fill the gaps. The staff not friendly and simply wanted to get rid of you as soon as possible without accommodating your inquiries, only pretending to do so. Breakfast consisted of only pancakes every day. I stayed in many hostels before and no one expects a hotel quality but never saw anywhere like this before. I guess liking this hostel is quite personal, for example my roommate who was just happy to party all night thought it was an awesome hostel. Sadly the “activities” they mentioned in their description were also non-existent, which was my main reason to choose this hostel. The whole week calendar consisted of bar visits and BBQs only. No tours around Balboa park, no snorkeling or beginners surf etc. The rooms were very basic, not even a single chair for you to sit on was provided. Only lockers and a night stand were there. As a last remark, the picture of the room I chose from booking.com showed me of a room with 2 single beds, whereas I was given a bunk bed. I wouldn’t recommend staying at this hostel, unless you’re looking for somewhere only to doze off after heavy drinking and partying all night.
It was very quiet at night and each bed had a locker (but bring your own lock!). There was also a shared kitchen with a stove and a toaster. Friendly people around. No smoking and drinking allowed. Free towels. Plently of batrooms and showers so I never needed to wait. I was there for a conference, and it was walking distance from the convention center.
Free breakfast but it was the same every day: make your own pancakes. Some bathroom doors could not be locked. It got quite warm in the room overnight. Pricey for a hostel.
you can meet there travelers and young people all over the world. the staff is really helpful and nice. also there are activities every day
the dorms were too crowded and pancakes is the only option for breakfast
