Overview Reviews
Experience the magnificence of historic Salamanca at Hospes Palacio de San Esteban in the heart of the Old City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The hotel is housed in an immaculately restored convent built by Dominican Friars in the 16th century when the city was at the peak of its grandeur. Within its thick stone walls, sumptuous amenities offer a romantic oasis of tranquility mere steps from Salamanca’s most remarkable monuments. At Hospes Palacio de San Esteban, history infuses every nook. In the restaurant, El Monje, located in the convent’s original kitchen, you can dine on fresh local delicacies, like chorizo sausage made from acorn-fed ham, Then relax with a steam in the Turkish bath or sip cocktails on the terrace overlooking the Old City’s splendid cathedrals and the Dominican Garden. Fetching details accent the hotel’s 51 externally facing rooms, from the exposed dark-wood ceiling beams to lights emphasizing the golden warmth of the stone quarried from nearby Villamayor.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location was ideal and the staff were really helpful. We decided to stay another night and it was quickly done. Our dog was welcome in the Hotel and was not seen as a problem. The breakfast was simply one of the best I've experienced in a Hotel.
Cons: We were not pre-warned of a wedding (with resulting noise by guests in the corridors in the early hours) and as a unfortunately the restaurant was out of action. The outside dining was OK but the service by the staff was far from professional. It let down and otherwise lovely stay. We also had a leak in one of the rooms which was reported and fixed but nothing more said of it at check-out.

Grand Hotel Don Gregorio - Salamanca - Building
4
9.3 Excellent (615 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Grand Hotel Don Gregorio, you'll be centrally located in Salamanca, steps from San Esteban Convent and 3 minutes by foot from New Cathedral of Salamanca. Featured amenities include complimentary wired Internet access, a business center, and complimentary newspapers in the lobby. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
5.0 Okay
Cons: No out door terrace area available due to a wedding party - in this climate this should have been stated when the booking was made. Very poor value for money and 5 stars are certainly not justified.
7.5 Good
Pros: Really nice breakfast with a great selection of jamon, cheese, pastries and freshly squeezed orange juice. Very comfy beds, beautiful bathroom with molten brown toiletries. Wonderful sight outside (a convent) and strolling distance to the main square. Lovely glass of welcome prosecco on arrival.
Cons: When we asked about parking over the phone we were told a chauffeur would park it for us when we arrived, it wasn’t made clear that parking was 20 euros a day and when we asked whether there was free parking nearby instead the answer was ambiguous. We found free street parking round the corner for the 3 days. We asked about the garden as we couldn’t find it, which is shown on the website and were told ‘oh it’s on the first floor but it’s really small’ When we asked for advice on places to visit we were shown the main square on a map, that was it. The photos on the website makes the hotel look a lot bigger than it is, especially the foyer/lobby area. We were given a discount on breakfast at the start of the stay but this wasn’t noted anywhere so the bill was wrong at the end of our stay.
7.5 Good
Pros: Very helpful staffs, clean and comfortable room.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location staff and service
Cons: Breakfast is in a rather dark underground room!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Exceptional hotel. As close as it gets to feeling at home while staying away in a hotel. All the interaction with the staff is to very high standard, and certainly have the personal touch and extremely duty of care towards the guests. Having stayed in hotels more times than one can actually count, this hotel stay tops the whole lot. Hotel staff arranged for birthday day celebration with an amazing cake.
Cons: Absolutely nothing.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The area is wonderful, kind staff, big rooms

Pros: Quality hotel in good location. Friendly staff.
Cons: Bar prices! Merluza la Romana poor value. Extra charge for sauna.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The stunning views across to the river to the cathedral of Salamanca.
Cons: Our evening meal in the Parador's restaurant was to sum up a little disappointing. My travelling companions were unanimous in agreeing that the quality and quantity of the servings were sub standard. Hard cheap rolls, tough meat with too much gristle, tiny deserts. I hasten to add the breakfast was to the expected standard. It is shame to report a negative for this venue as the last time I stayed and ate there I couldn't fault it.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Luxurious and beautiful with extraordinarily wonderful views of Salamanca. Delicious breakfast too. A fabulous stay.

Pros: The room was lovely and scenery was nice. Nice restaurants nearby meant we didn't have to eat at the hotel every night
Cons: The swimming pool was cold, freezing cold - I tried but couldn't stay in the pool for more than a few seconds. Reception was a bit slow in checking in but got better later.
7.5 Good
Pros: View of the town and cathedral was spectacular
Cons: Breakfast and food from the cafe is expensive and it appears that both are under-staffed as the people working appeared stressed and it felt like a hindrence to ask for something

6.7 Good
Pros: Beautiful looking hotel in good location... rooms very stylish and overall decor excellent t
Cons: Waiting for a few minutes at reception for staff to finish personal conversation with friend annoying.... advertised as with parking so disappointing to be told must be reserved in advance after 9 hours in car
7.9 Good
Pros: Located right next to plaza major, very quiet room
Cons: Airco not working (only at 12 C), reported to front desk but no actions taken.
7.1 Good
Cons: 20 minutes waiting for the check in after a long travel? Is not acceptable. Asking for a quiet room and being given a room in the 1st floor with people screaming and making a lot of noise in the corridor? Not acceptable also. If the people that book rooms in your hotel have bad behavior you should have security working.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location only a few metres from Plaza Mayor. Our room was a good size and very comfortable, with a couch and large bed.
Cons: The pool was a bit disappointing. It’s tiny, and there’s nowhere to sit in the shade around it, which is what we’d been hoping for.

Pros: location
Cons: nothing
8.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very pleasant. The room comfortable and it overlooked the plaza which was excellent .I could order tea, soft drinks and beer which was good when needed. The host spoke some English which helped a great deal.
Cons: The bed and pillows could have been a bit more comfortable.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Nice hostal in excellent location, 1 minute from Plaza Mayor. Restaurant outside hostal very good. Although hostal does not do breakfast you can order a coffee, tea or beer, delivered to your room, for only 1 euro each. Nice views over the square from the room. There is plenty to do in Salamanca - the double cathedral, the different convents (esp Santa Clara), the views of the town from the opposite side of the Roman bridge, wandering around the streets admiring the architecture. A day trip to Zamora is also worthwhile.
Cons: Not really a complaint but room is on the small side, as was the bed by Spanish standards (although the bathroom was large). However it was comfortable, good a/c, and excellent value for money.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Right on the tourism spot but no noise
Cons: Air conditioning on the living room but not in the bedroom
10.0 Excellent
Cons: Small room but perfect.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The Hostal is in a great central location on the plaza Liberdad which is a very nice park with no cars allowed near the Plaza Mayor. Despite being centrally located, it was not noisy. There are small restaurants, a bakery and coffee shop on the plaza and all of the historic center in Salamanca (which is quite al lot!) seemed to be within a one and a fifteen-minute walk. Our family of four had two separate rooms and we appreciated having some privacy away from our teen-age children, and I am sure they liked that also. The rooms were a good size, but not large, and were well laid out. They each had a double door opening to a Juliet balcony overlooking the park and were very bright and sunny. The room and bathroom were very clean and the air conditioning worked well. The cleaning person was very friendly and greeted us warmly every morning as she was tidying the common areas. We enjoyed our stay and would stay here again if we return to Salamanca.
Cons: The people at the check-in were courteous, but not particularly friendly or going out of their way to be helpful. As we are self-starters who like to explore and figure things out this was not a big deal.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable bed. Quite a large room size. Clean. Quiet. Oh and did I mention very comfortable bed?
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Real value for money hotel. Good location close to the historic center, clean with good facilities and service, large comfortable rooms.
Cons: The parking is not as expensive as other hotel parkings in the city center, but still somebody has to pay extra almost 10 euros for it. Maybe this could be an area if improvement.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were helpful and friendly. Loved the comfortable bed and clean room.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very clean , friendly staff on arrival , IBIS reliability, you know what to expect
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The location was excellent, hotel clearly signposted with local hotel/car parking signs. On-street parking is nigh impossible, so recommend use of Ibis car park (9 euros/day). Only 8 minutes walk to Plaza Mayor and central attractions, etc. Room was superb, modern and all facilities fully working. Air-con was brilliant! The walk-in shower cubicle is especially worth mention, "fab"! Excellent park immediately opposite hotel for dog-walkers. Dogs are allowed to stay in the room when owner is absent by placing "Do not disturb" sign on the door.
Cons: Staff were minimal throughout my stay, causing prolonged check-in, and service in the bar/restaurant.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Spacious rooms, ideal for staying with a dog. Easy walk to the centre and historical sights.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous location within walking distance of the delightful old town. Otherwise a fairly typical IBIS hotel.
Cons: The parking garage has extremely steep ramps.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location next to park where we can walk our dogs,on site parking, great breakfast
Cons: Would be first rate if they had a restaurant but plenty of local eating places
6.3 Good
Pros: Like there was parking available onsite.
Cons: I prepaid for two rooms for my family but was given only one room on arrival. Poor customer services by some staff.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean and comfortable
Cons: The air conditioning sometimes doesn’t worked.

Pros: Have stayed on many occasions, really helpful staff and very good breakfast. Disappointed to be overlooking the road this time. About 20 min walk into plaza Mayor, or taxis available outside the hotel. Very easy to find and own parking
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was exceptional and the staff were very friendly and helpful at all times, it was approximately between 10 to 15 minute walk into the main centre where there were lots of restaurants and bars and the walk was very safe and you felt at ease at all times of the day and night. We paid for parking in the secure underground garage, there is an option of parking on the road but this is hit and miss for a parking place but it would still have been very safe to leave your car on the road 24 hours a day
Cons: N/A

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very helpful and cheerful receptionist. She even booked our onward train tickets for us.
6.3 Good
Pros: The location was perfect. Right in the heart of the historical center, and close to many shops and restaurants. The room was nice and it was clean.
Cons: The customer service was lack luster. We had issues with the parking because all they told us was that it was in San Justo Plaza. There are at least 3 parking garages in/right next to this plaza and none of them are clearly marked. A simple map would have helped. We ended up parking in the garage in the actual plaza which turns out to be for the apartments, and not for the hotel. When we had issues accessing the garage the next morning; we went back to the hotel, and the host would not help us. All of this could have been avoided had they shown us a little map, or just explained in a tiny bit more depth, especially for people who and traveling and unfamiliar with the area.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The location is great, very central... but in a pedestrian street (you cannot take your car/taxi to the front door). No parking at the hotel either (they send you to a nearby carpark)
Cons: This is not a four-star hotel. There is only one person at the reception, no other help at the door. Be prepared to be treated in a rather unprofessional manner. The decor is very dated. The breakfast lady was friendly, but there is only so much she can do covering the breakfast service alone. Please note that there is no parking on-site. They would send you to the carpark which belongs to some apartment block nearby and we got lost following the directions. In the end, we left the car in a 24 hr carpark ( some shopping center nearby) and that was cheaper. Also, of all the hotels we were staying at, this was the only place where they wanted to charge us for the bedding for the sofa-bed in the room, i.e. child stays are NOT free, even on existing beds in the room. It is not like me to be negative, but I felt that customers were being missold, hence had to leave the review.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very good location, easy to walk every where. Good selection for breakfast, staff very friendly and helpful.
Cons: Please consider providing tea and coffee in rooms.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is located in a quiet little plaza with only little traffic in the night. Easy to find with car and GPS. You can leave the car just outside the for a short instruction in the reception how to park indoor. Be careful when entering the hotels car elevator. The receptionist is very friendly and helpful. From the hotel you can walk to all major sights within 5 minutes. The whole area is very safe. Rooms are spacious, very clean and so is the bathroom. The whole hotel is a spotless 4 star hotel with all you can expect and ask for.
Cons: The breakfast buffet did not work well any of the 3 days. Minimum one of the two coffee machines was most of time out of order, food was not adequately resupplied, the scrambled eggs were not scrambled, but more like hard balls, bread was not fresh from bakery, the maple syrup aimed for the pan cakes was substituted by two strange fluids (red and chocolate), orange juice was missing several times. The breakfast staff seems to either undermanned, working inefficient or both.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is a nice 4* chain hotel. We booked a superior twin room which even came with a small living room. The beds are comfortable and well made as one expects in such a hotel. We had used Eurostars before and knew the standard to expect. Our check-in and check-out experiences were excellent. We got nice suggestions for a quick bite and they even offered booking a table.
Cons: Breakfast and breakfast rooms are not as nice as the rest. It is the typical busy hotel breakfast room. The staff was less friendly than the front desk. Nothing really bad, but less comfortable than the rest. The buffet was quite good.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: good breakfast, very helpful staff and excellent location

Pros: We had a comfortable room with plenty of space and good AC (necessary in Salamanca in July). Front desk staff were friendly and helpful, it's not in the city centre (only a short walk to the main sights) but that made access by car much easier. The car parking was straightforward and secure.
Cons: There was some noise from adjoining rooms, particularly upstairs, from the tour groups who stay here. It calmed down at night and wasn't a problem for sleeping.

Pros: The location is great - it is about a 10 minute walk to the Plaza Mayor. The staff were charming and valet-parked our large Volvo. The rooms were comfortable and large.
Cons: There are no coffee or tea-making facilities, but this is normal for most Spanish hotels. The pool is tiny - just a splash-about, not big enough for proper exercise. Breakfast was expensive and not included so we ate in a nearby cafe.

Pros: The beauty of the building, the proximity to the old town and our student daughter living in Salamanca. Exquisite furnishings in room, bath, hotel.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was beautiful and the room was large and clean. The king-size bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was clean, large and very nice - a lot of marble and glass and double sinks. The location was perfect - walking distance to everything (Plaza Mayor and all the sights) yet away from the hustle bustle. Was also walking distance to the train station. Parking at the hotel was very convenient. Lastly, there was a free computer available for guests in the lobby.

7.0 Good
Pros: This hotel is convenient for walking from the Renfe train station (about ten minutes by foot) and for exploring in Salamanca. It is right on the edge of the old town. We really appreciated the complimentary use of the computer for internet access. Very nicely appointed decor.
Cons: There were no English language tv channels!!!!! And this is categorized as a five star hotel!???? We understand that every language cannot be represented in a tv menu, but surely this hotel accomodates many international guests and should realize that English is a major language in the world.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Concierges were excellent; taking all problems from parking/stopping/dealing with luggage in very busy area for traffic. This is very important when, like us, we are driving in an unfamiliar and busy city.
