Pros: Amazing place, complete with tortoises on the property. The staff is great for communicating and coordinating your daily activities and the food is excellent. Would highly recommend and would stay again.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Gorgeous property -- beautiful, clean, modern rooms surrounded by highlands jungle and TORTOISES. It was so lovely that we opted out of some other tourist sites we were going to see in favor of just hanging out at the hotel. Great breakfast, pool, hosts were accommodating, friendly and super helpful.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Katia at the front desk was so helpful and kind. This is one of those places that you'll remember for a lifetime, absolutely breath taking. And I cant forget the warm welcome from the two labradors, made me feel right at home!
Cons: It's a 18 min drive into the city that runs $7 each way. It can get a little pricey.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was fantastic, the vegetation was beautiful, turtles reside on the grounds and the staff were outstanding.
Cons: Nothing.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very quiet and peaceful hotel in the middle of the island. Giant turtles are openly coming and going in the luxuriant garden. Breakfast was delicious and dinner as well! Our hostess was wonderful and helpful

Pros: Beautiful room. Gorgeous part of the island. Katia was so helpful finding things for us to do that we would not have known to do.
Cons: Cost of transportation for touring was a bit expensive.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely fabulous! Their dog will show you around the grounds and where the tortoises are! We felt extremely spoiled the entire time! 100% recommend!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The site manager was extraordinary. She was so helpful and friendly.
Cons: The only thing I could even classify as a downside is that the property is about 12km outside of puerto ayorra making it necessary to get a cab whenever you want to go on daytrips.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: As soon as we arrived we saw 5 giant tortoises on the property. The homemade food at the property was phenomenal! Plenty of trails to go exploring on. Overall very peaceful, serene location. To get into town it’s a quick $7 taxi cab ride away.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were friendly and helpful. The view from our room was amazing. The food at the restaurant was delicious. I was particularly impressed with the staff, especially when we were having dinner on our last night, the waiter noticed that we were being annoyed by mosquitos. He quickly brought over some insect repellant for us.
Cons: I don’t really know, the room was small, but for just two of us we managed just fine. I wish that there were more English speaking staff.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location with a view on the water. Staff is very kind, professional, responsive and knowledgeable. They did every thing to make our staying enjoyable! Also delicious breakfast
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hotel, amazing staff & rooms, made to feel extremely special and the staff went the extra mile to look after us. Brilliant cocktails down at the waterfront watching the sea turtles and pelicans - really not to be missed. The rooms were stunning! WiFi signal was okay- but typical of Santa Cruz. We organised a trip as part of our transfer from the airport to the hotel- this is well worth doing; includes lunch, visits to giant tortoise reserve, los gemelos and the lava tunnels. Highly recommend doing this!
Cons: We wish we were there for longer!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Luxurious stay right on the water. Beautiful rooms
Cons: Breakfast was ok but room for improvement
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Well organized clean hotel.Beautiful location !Helpful staff!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The check in was excellent - it was fast, the important information was given in very clear and understandable way. The upgrade was made upon our request. Thanks.
Cons: The check out was not made in full correctly, the amount to be paid by cash was requested when we reached the harbor coast, during our loading to taxi. The invoice for amount paid in cash was not sent to us later via email. Some hotel workers ( like the lady barmen during our wait for upgrade of our room) were not attentive to our needs and requests. Though the bar in the rom had to be refilled every day, it was not done.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was ideal for its proximity to las Grietas and the German beach. The location was also perfect for a enjoying the beautiful and tasty breakfast the offer each morning on the water.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The bathroom was huge and the room was very nice. Loved the golden rays and other wildlife that showed up every day. We caught a mahi-mahi on a fishing trip and the chef did a great job of preparing it for us for dinner at short notice.
Cons: Took a little extra effort to get a water taxi back from town when we went out to dinner. We would have preferred a little more comfortable balcony with privacy from the next room, as well as access to the upper floor balcony which was locked.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, very nice room and friendly staff. Would love to come back.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was exceptional - we were upgraded on arrival . Staff were extremely helpful and friendly . Great location !!

Pros: Quite and Away from the noise in town. the Food quality is great, different set menu every night and it is of high quality
Cons: Wifi is very slow. considering there is no TV in the rooms you'd need the wifi
7.5 Good
Pros: Staff is so nice and friendly, special note for Cesar who is amazing Food and breakfast is really nice Again, staff super nice
Cons: Rooms are way too small for this standard Equipment in the room is very standard (cheap cupboard, noisy fan in the bathroom…) Service is too long (although nice) for dinner
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel has an amazing staff, a spectacular location, and food that surpassed our expectations. We were treated like very important guests including a beautiful table overlooking the beach for dinner. The day trip on the Sea Lion with Mario as the guide was a highlight of our trip!
Cons: The only thing is the bathrooms need to be updated. Renato mentioned they will be remodeling them sometime soon. Everything else was perfect!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic quiet spot. Food is excellent. Breakfast is a bit different every morning. All staff were very friendly and helpful. Very nice to have dinner outside. Fish was delicious , pasta dishes as well.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: During the day there are very few quests at the hotel as many use Finch Bay as their "home" to take day trips around the Galapagos. If you are not interested in taking a boat for a few days around the islands, this could be a good (expensive) home-base for you. If you are looking for quiet time by the pool to read, this place is great. Some of the staff (assistant-manager, some of the servers at the restaurant) are very nice and seem to genuinely want to make your stay great. The tomato soup is outstanding!
Cons: Bottom line - not worth the money. It is remarkably expensive for what you are getting. I would not do it again or recommend it to anyone who has already seen the islands. GETTING THERE: The hotel will charge you $38 US per person to get you to the hotel which is outrageous by any standard, and they know it (as of 2000, Ecuador uses the US Dollar as its official currency). They will not be doing anything that you cannot do on your own very easily; you literally cannot get lost as there is absolutely NO other way to get to Finch Bay. The Airport is on Baltra Island and you have no choice but to take a bus from the airport to the Baltra Dock (there is nothing on Baltra except the airport and the dock - no one lives on the island, no taxis - there is nowhere to go except to the dock). The bus is a free service. You must take the boat from the Baltra Dock to Santa Cruz Island - $1 US per person (again, there is absolutely nowhere else to go - you cannot possibly get lost). From the dock on Santa Cruz Island you can take a taxi the 45 KM to the port at Puerto Ayora (there are always several) for $20 US (per car, not per person but ask the driver to ensure the price) or a bus ($4 US per person) to get to Puerto Ayora (you can tell the taxi driver "Finch Bay" and you will still be taken to the port at Puerto Ayora). From the port at Puerto Ayora you have to take a water taxi to the Finch Bay dock ($1 US per person). Again, you cannot possibly get lost - trust me. Or, if Finch Bay knows you are coming they can send their boat to pick you up (free). From the Finch Bay dock it is a 5 - 10 minute walk down a rocky path to a wooden elevated sidewalk. You cannot possibly get lost as there is only one path. So, recap: $38 per person for Finch Bay to arrange a random taxi driver to get you from the airport to the boat at Puerto Ayora, or $22 for one person ($24 for 2 people, $26 for three people, etc.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The Finch Bay was the perfect place to stay and rest after 4 days of touring. It was very relaxing with a great pool near the bar, a small beach and great walk to some swimming caves. Fantastic dinner and breakfast with an exceptional staff. Ask for the quiet rooms with a view of the jungle.
Cons: There wasn't anything we didn't like. It was pricey (but everything is in the Galapagos) but well worth the journey. Note that you must take a 5 minute water taxi and 5 minute walk from town. If you call ahead, they tote your bags to and from the water taxi.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: - The overall experience was great, the environment is beautiful the hotel being surrounded by beautiful beaches - Great food and cocktails quality (bar by the pool) - Amazing service - we were served snacks and drinks around the pool and the staff has a great attention in details
Cons: - Rooms are too small for the standard of the hotel - No private balcony or direct sea view
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff and shared area were lovely. Tours organized via hotel were great. Chef was really open to show me around the kitchen area and the hotel garden. Thanks as well to Pepe for the most refreshing pisco sour. Really relaxing holidays.
Cons: Rooms are simple and clean, I don't mind simple, but for that price bathroom could be renovated, especially in the suite with sea view.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Structure and service are amazing.

Pros: Very good location and very friendly staff Property very picturesque Excellent help from Borris
Cons: Could do with more wardrobe space and softer lights in room
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location and ocean view
Cons: Breakfast, everyday it’s the same 2 choices! And not many options.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location right on the water is the point to this place. Cozy up to sea lions and iguanas as you have a cocktail on the deck. The property feels interwoven with the vegetation and rocks which is cool.
Cons: Due to the window and floor layout, our bathroom got little ventilation which led to a bit of a mildew smell.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff was really nice and watching the sea lions on the sun terrace while enjoying rich breakfast was amazing!
Cons: -
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Level of service
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We stayed for the last night of our honeymoon and they upgraded our room to a suite which was great. The room was incredible, fantastic views, his & hers sinks in the bathroom, rose petals on the bed - the minibar was complimentary (except if refills wanted) and we were given lovely drinks canisters as gifts. The food at the restaurant should not be missed- the risotto del mar was the best thing I’ve ever eaten and I would highly recommend this to everyone visiting Santa Cruz. Wonderful experience!
Cons: Price on booking.com didn’t include taxes so we ended up spending about $70 more than the stated price selected on the website- which was not really budgeted for.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very helpful staff. Fantastic location right on the water. Sea lions like to lounge on the dock next to the restaurant.
Cons: Nothing negative to say. Excellent place.
7.1 Good
Pros: The location of the hotel is amazing.
Cons: Restaurant staff often unmotivatet and slow (except Andrea / Reception desk - she was helpful and professional). They should improve to justify the price of the hotel.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The property is beautiful with a natural feel as it’s incorporated within the mangroves. The ocean view from our suite was spectacular to wake up in the morning!
Cons: The only downside to the location was there was no beach access.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful peaceful hotel. We extended our stay and they upgraded us to a beautiful ocean view suite.
Cons: Breakfast was good but could have used a little more variety.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is my second time in solymar and I love it, the location is the best of it.. the food in the restaurant is one of the best on the island.. Staff is very friendly and helpful.. very good price for what you get..
Cons: Mattresses a little bit too hard
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff were friendly and very helpful
Cons: The initial room did not really had a view of the sea -only through the restaurant windows! But they moved us to another room -it was smaller but it had a lovely view
2.9 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing
Cons: This Hotel is way overpriced at $300/night. There are many nicer hotels in Puerto Arroya at $100. The place is falling apart with broken things everywhere. The staff is not nice. The pool is never cleaned and full of guano from the birds. My room: no hot water, broken toilet, broken furniture etc. I think they are cheating on the good ratings. Never would recommend to anyone to stay here
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean, convenient, and good staff
Cons: Hot tub never got hot, and the pool was freezing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff, with good English, amazing location right on the water. We watched iguana, turtles, seals, crabs, and many birds including frigates and blue footed boobies right from the hotel. Perfect central location with our new favorite restaurant just down the road. The fish market is a short walk away with lots of seals and birds. The pool was welcome relief on hot evenings.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was delicious and the ocean view is stunning!
Cons: Everything was great!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The location is perfect. The pool is nice and definitely comes in handy for cooling down after a day of exploring Puerto Ayora or a day trip to another island.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Upon arrival, the staff were extremely friendly, helpful and pleasant! I was offered a towel for outdoor activities because I arrived before check-in hours (which was nice because a lot of hotels/hostels actually prohibit their towels being used outside of the hotel). I was handed a fruity drink in a champagne glass & a chilled, scented spa towel! By far, Best treatment I received in Ecuador! The room was absolutely beautiful and quiet. Everything worked great. There were limited complimentary snacks & drinks for the ocean view rooms, which I found convenient. What I found funny was that on one pack of the snacks, they left the price sticker on it & it was like 45 cents but the hotel charges $3 for any extra snacks. The shower and hot water worked great. WiFi is Island wifi so not much anyone can do about that. The restaurant staff were accommodating; not very sociable, but nice. The reason I didn’t give this rating a 10/10 is because the pool was dirty, looked crystal clear & blue till I got into the pool itself. TONS of huge questionable white specks floating around, lots of dead bugs & other floaties. Also, after I checked in, I saw that the bathroom trash had not been changed from the previous folks who occupied the room. I was just there for 2 days so I didn’t care to bother reception with changing it, but sanitation considered, it’s not appealing.
Cons: TONS of huge questionable white specks floating around, lots of dead bugs & other floaties. Also, after I checked in, I saw that the bathroom trash had not been changed from the previous folks who occupied the room. I was just there for 2 days so I didn’t care to bother reception with changing it, but sanitation considered, it’s not appealing.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location close to many things. People. Cocktails Clean room hooks on wall. Lots of drinking water available
Cons: No hot water for 3 days. Room a bit smaller than expected. Felt we deservd a roomdiscount for not having hot showers for 3 days and nights and first day airconditioner leaked all over floor. They worked hard to correct things which we appreciated
6.7 Good
Pros: the location, the seals by the pool, the view of the ocean and good access to all local facilities- shops, restaurants and the post
Cons: We didnt have hot water for 6 days and had to go to another location each day once we had complained and were told of this option. The only compensation offered was one cocktail each and they didnt even know how to make gin and tonic topping the gin up with fresh lemon - yuk!
Lava House Hostal - Puerto Ayora - Building
7
9.0 Excellent (61 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Hostel located in the center of Puerto Ayora, a few blocks from the street of Los Kioskos, Pelican Bay and the tourist sites of Santa Cruz Island. We have outdoor spaces where you can observe mockingbirds and Darwin's finches.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything about the Lava House was just perfect. It was really like a little paradise! Super beautiful garden, comfy rooms with terrace, lovely people and yummy breakfast!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: I really liked this place! The room was really good and very comfortable. There was cleaning every day. There is a place to sit outside of the room, which was good. The staff was really friendly and helpful. Location was very good as well - up to 5 minutes to a see market and 10-15 minutes to the pier.
Cons: I liked everything!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The property itself feels like a little oasis from the relatively busy 'city.' Upon walking in the front gate, you are in a courtyard which has a peaceful garden, 3 comfortable hammocks in which to rest and plenty of other sitting areas. The activity at this property feels like the perfect amount of quiet with just the right bit of life. At night, there were sweet twinkling lights, making the outdoor space inviting even in the evening! The family that owns Lava House is lovely, always someone around willing to help. The cook/cleaner is very sweet as well. The rooms were cleaned daily, beds comfortable, shower water pressure good and plenty of space to spread out a bit. Breakfast was in the 'main house' and was served buffet stye, although eggs were sometimes brought straight to the table. There was hot coffee and juice, fresh local bread, eggs, cheese, meat, granola, homemade yogurt and fruit. The tables were already set when you arrived and it was an extremely pleasant spot to sit and chat and prep for the day! I honestly could not say enough good things about Lava House! We have been traveling for about a year as a family and if every city had a Lava House, I wouldn't complain. If you need a home base for Santa Cruz, this should be it!
Cons: Not a thing -- loved everything.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lava House is an excellent place to stay on Santa Cruz. It is in a great quiet location not far from town. Isabella and her family (and Cesar) are very friendly and helpful. We had a group of 22 and she was able to accommodate us. To use a credit card, there is an additional 10% fee to be paid in cash.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Nice breakfast, loved the family atmosphere in this place
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location, exceptionally clean rooms. Plenty of free fresh water, good WiFi, good breakfast with croissants brown bread fruit cheese and fresh scrambled eggs. Good English spoken by one of the staff which was helpful. Plenty of shops near by
Cons: The kitchen was very warm to cook in and the hob didn’t have enough gas... cooking was difficult!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: See below for breakfast information it was awesome!!!! The very nice garden was so pleasant. Fresh fruits we could try from the tree. We had access to fridge and drinking water anytime. The breakfast was fresh made real fruit drinks, yogur, granola, fresh fruit, eggs, ham, delicious breads and croissants. The staff is friendly and helpful. The location is about 5-6 blocks up from the pier. Taxi is about $1 (total) to get around town. But we walked to the peir and other eating places several times. We were feeding a family of six there and so a fridge and freezer to stash some food in was helpful. Packing our own jerky, etc was a lifesaver in general as food on Galapagos is EXPENSIVE.
Cons: There wasn’t really anything I didn’t like. Maybe the sliding door sticking a little but I loved the window/door facing the garden.
7.9 Good
Pros: The staff are wonderful. Very helpful & all around great! They help you set up drivers and tours and are so warm and welcoming. We loved being there!
Cons: The shower is either freezing or scalding hot.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good location, good breakfast with granola, plain yoghurt, and some fruit. Owner is very kind and sweet, though she does not speak much English. But there are usually others around who can translate. Or you can use google translate. Relaxing environment and good vibe. Good air conditioning. Laundry facility is close by if you want to take in your laundry. I brought it in about 5pm and it was ready the next day at 5pm.
Cons: On the first night the air conditioner was a little loud, but she switched me to another room, which was nice. My room could use a tray to put soap and shampoo, but not a big deal. Not much counter space in bathroom.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Room was clean and well equipped.
Cons: Staff was not very welcoming or supportive.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and helpful. Great value for an overnight stay in Puerto Ayora.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Good quiet location, lovely bright clean room. Outside space, 10 minute walk to the pier. Highly recommended if this is your budget.
7.1 Good
Cons: I came to Galapagos looking for a quiet escape to nature. However I regret my decision to stay in Puerto Ayora due to relentlessly blaring music and shouting over loud speakers until midnight! It seems to be related to an upcoming election and I am shocked it is legal to create this much noise at all hours. I suggest skipping the town or splurging on an oceanfront room to drown out the noise. You will not get any sleep here.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The bed was confortable, the room clean with a window' for light. The hotel manager and the employees were very nice and helpful.
Cons: A bit far from the center 10-15minutes walk. No shampoo provided. No breakfast included. Very early check out (9am)
7.1 Good
Pros: n/a
Cons: Only accepting cash
7.5 Good
Pros: Kitchen was available to use, hot and cold water supplied, room was spacious and the staff were really nice.
Cons: The kitchen was pretty dirty, and the bowls and plates were old with cracks and stains. Just need to clean the kitchen and provide some new plates and bowls
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The garden area of the white house was very nice and the rooms are comfy. As the galapagos aren't cheap, we also enjoyed the possibility to cook in the well equiped kitchen. We stayed there twice and the whole family was really kind and heartfelt. Thanks a lot!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very clean room, nice shower, communitary kitchen, a cute garden, HUGE BEDS and reasonable wi-fi.
Cons: One of the nights we stayed there was this terrible metal banging noise at like 5am which disrupted our sleep. I have no idea if it was even in the property, but it would be nice for the owners to check on that.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Nice seating area to relax, very clean, rooms simple but nice. Very helpful and friendly. We got a larger room (were allowed to choose) as we were staying for 9 nights. It is about a 5 min walk from the harbour, not far at all and close to shops which was good for us as we used the kitchen often to cook our own meals.
Cons: Nothing

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was great! Just a few minutes away from the harbour. Also the kingsize bed was very nice. The staff was friendly and very helpfull
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The accommodation was as advertised and we were happy with the room. The location is a short walk away from the main supermarket and ATM at the harbour, and close to many places to book tours or visit a restaurant. We did not use a taxi to visit any of the local areas while we were there, with the furthest walk being to the Darwin center or Tortuga beach (about 45min walk). Ninfas lagoon is about 2 min walk away, and the main Supermarket at the harbour is about 5min walk away. Raphael gave us great information about the bus schedule, and we were able to take the public bus for $1 to visit Santa Rosa, from where we walked to the tortoise farm and the lava tunnels. The room was cleaned daily, and everything was perfect.
Cons: -

Cons: They have no kitchen and a lot a noise un the area

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff at the hotel were exceptional and could not have been more helpful and friendly. We were very lucky that Amy was working there during her University holidays as she spoke very good English and helped make our Galapagos holiday even better. Sonia and her husband who own and manage the hotel were also incredibly helpful but with not so much English. The hotel was an easy 10 minute walk from the main strip of Puerto Ayora so was away from the hustle and bustle of the restaurants, bars, travel and souvenir shops that make up the port. We had a two bedroom apartment which was amazing value. Breakfast was included and Sonia made a beautiful breakfast to order each day served in the restaurant. There was a kitchen in the apartment and Puerto Ayora has a very well stocked supermarket. Great place to stay if you are in Puerto Ayora. Make sure you walk past the fish market in the Main Street as there is an array of birds, a sea lion and iguanas just hanging around waiting for a free feed.
Cons: The only thing that could have been better was the WI Fi which was incredibly slow - turtle net - and dropped in and out. This is not the hotel's fault as this is how the internet is in the Galapagos but whose complaining when you are in one of the best places in the world.
9.1 Excellent
Pros: Friendly helpful manager. In quiet neighbourhood, but close to both the "downtown" waterfront and the Darwin Research Centre.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff couldn't have been more helpful & the AC room was so clean & it's almost a new hotel. It was in a quiet neighborhood but only a short walk into town.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Ferdinando was the kindest, most helpful of hotel managers. This is a small family hotel, very much a simple bed and breakfast. It is immaculately clean. Bathroom with bath and shower, though no hot water in the wash hand basin, and as is so often the case in Central and South America toilet paper must be put in a bin (yuk). Ferdinando will arrange tours, has many really helpful suggestions, and is happy to cater for specific dietary needs at breakfast. Everywhere is in easy walking distance in the town , and the taxi service the hotel organises with Andreas is also excellent.
Cons: No hot water in wash hand basin. Loo paper must be put in a bin. Barking dog across the street but he is quiet at night!
7.9 Good
Pros: It is a good value considering the limited choices in Puerto Ayora and that the hotel is newer than most.
Cons: The location is not the best, as there is a mini-slum across the street with two or three very poor houses. It is worth noting however, that this did not cause any problem other than visual during my stay.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was excellent and staff very friendly
Cons: WiFi connection was not very strong (but found this all over the Galapagos)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Sonia cooked our amazing breakfasts. The food was delicious and the room was very elegant with classical music in the background. There was nothing the staff couldn’t do to please us. We were very impressed with their dedication. The walk to the waterfront was a short one but taxis anywhere in the town cost $1.50.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect all around Jose Miguel and Amy provided excellent customer service Excellent facility !
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel associates were more than welcome to go above and beyond to provide us excellent customer service especially Amy and Jose Miguel
Cons: Nothing
9.2 Excellent
Pros: WiFi OK, considering it's not good anywhere on the Galápagos Islands (it's better to buy a SIM card for mobile internet). Difficult to stream video's but steady and good enough for browsing. Rooms were very nice and spacious. Bathroom also spacious and nice. Very friendly hosts!! You can get beach towels, and you can fill up your water bottle at the reception.
Cons: Breakfast was good but could be a bit more diverse. There was a small kitchen in our room (microwave and cooking plate), but no cutlery neither glasses, plates, kitchen utensils, pots, ... Didn't need it so didn't ask for it either (this is just FYI).
7.5 Good
Pros: The apartment with the kitchen is dated and needs work but the other room that we stayed in was very nice. Their cheapest price rooms are tiny! The staff were great and helped out with whatever we needed. They went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect. Thank you Diego.
Cons: The place needs updating and for the amount it charges, I think one expects more.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location is perfect - near the port, evening street food, path to Tortuga beach.
Cons: Could be more choice and better service at breakfast.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Pool
Cons: The room smelled terrible, and there was a gecko on our wall. When I asked for it to be removed, the guy at the front desk told me that it won’t bother me. It then jumped on me as I was getting into bed. Horrible hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A good location from where to explore.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great facilities and breakfast. Swimming pool was great, probably one of the best ones compared with the rest of Puerto Ayora's hotels. Clean room and bathroom shower worked perfect.
Cons: You need to walk 5 minutes more than other hotels to Puerto Ayora's harbor, but it is not a big problem.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Pool, ping pong table, breakfast, the terrace!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable beds Good pool Good breakfast Quiet location Good staff
Cons: Rooms little dated. Long time to get hot water in the shower

Ariana´s Galapagos Hostal - Puerto Ayora - Building

8.5 Excellent (83 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at ARIANA´S GALAPAGOS HOSTAL in Puerto Ayora, you'll be in a national park, just steps from Galapagos National Park and a 4-minute drive from Malecon. Featured amenities include express check-in, multilingual staff, and luggage storage. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours), and free self parking is available onsite.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The suites are comfortable enough - the beds were comfy, the sheets clean (and changed regularly), and the AC worked in both rooms. The main room and kitchen weren't much to look at - very functional, but the furniture and decorating was pretty bland. The kitchen has the bare necessities to cook, but nothing more. The hotel has a wonderful breakfast from 7-8 each morning (perfect for us with kids as we get up early!). It included eggs, a starch (sometimes potatoes, sometimes yuca), bread, fruit, juice, and coffee. There is a supermarket by the port where we bought snacks and the makings of a few lunches. The staff at the hotel was amazingly accommodating. Our baby needs dark to sleep, so the staff changed out the curtains in one room to darker ones that blocked the light more. There are beach towels available for use and they even loaned us a beach umbrella to use for a day. The hotel is on the outer edge of the town, but for us as a family with young kids, it was nice and quiet. Plus, it actually made finding a taxi easier - you weren't having to compete with anyone for a ride as you do the closer you get to town, so we almost never had to wait to find a ride. Wonderful, friendly little hotel and a great price for the room!
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Very clean and attentive to patrons, generous breakfast.
Cons: For me, no faults. It's location is on the NE side of town, away from the noise of lots of tourists yet just a 10 minute walk or taxi gets one to the center of the city.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great included breakfast ! Modern and spacious room with a nice view. Nice staff !
7.1 Good
Pros: Good budget accommodation if a little away from the action. Breakfast OK, rooms clean and comfortable.
7.1 Good
Pros: The breakfast was good. They were receptive to my needs as a vegetarian. We were located in away from the tourist area with the locals and I had a ton of opportunities to practice my Spanish. I highly recommend staying if you are at least an intermediate speaker and take part in the excellent and affordable eating options and shopping nearby. The local culture life is amazing and worth the effort to get past any language barriers.
Cons: The owner and the staff DO NOT speak English. I got by with my muddled Spanish but it was very difficult at times to communicate. For most things, I did not mind but there were a few things I desperately wanted to convey I was not able and she nor anyone else there could tell me important info I needed to know because of the language barrier. The street was also loud and brightly lit, not for light sleepers but loads of fun to observe from the amazing rooftop lounge.
7.1 Good
Pros: Breakfast was adequate and set us up for the day, fresh juice, eggs, pastries, fruit and good coffee. Great eating breakfast on the rooftop terrace. Nice happy and polite staff every morning. The owner was very helpful and even stored our suitcase whilst we journeyed onto other islands before returning. Very close to the edge of the wilderness and up with the local people.
Cons: We could hear every outside noise. Breakfast only served between 7am and 8am. We do however realise that Galapagos people awake very early to begin the day. There was quite a lot of rubbish dumped on the verge opposite the hotel which spoilt the view.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Ariana's Galapagos Hostal has been nothing but wonderful to us. If you are looking to stay away from the touristy area and immerse in a local life, look no further. The property is located about 15 min away - walking distance - from Puerto Ayora's main street or just 5 min and $1,50 by taxi. Breakfast was wonderful with fresh fruit, juice, and excellent Galapagos coffee. Another huge plus: WiFi! - the connection, unlike in most places in Galapagos, was surprisingly fast. Gabriel, the property manager, will offer tips on what to do and see around the island and will book a taxi, should you need a ride to the airport.
Cons: Can't think of anything as the place met all our expectations.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: What was awesome is that the administrator (Gabriel) spoke Russian! Yey, finally i could ask whatever i wanted and get good explanations and advises. I even forgot to ask if he speaks English. Gabriel was very helpful. He gave a choice of 2 rooms available, that was nice. Conditioning worked well, the room was nice and comfy. There were new flat TV, but I didn't have time to turn them on ;-)... The space on the roof top to dry towels and swim ware was very useful. And breakfast was nice. There were additional hooks to put towel and clothes (l appreciate that in the hotels). Also there were drinking water available in the kitchen area - also very appreciated.
Cons: Location is kind a far from the centre and piers (15-20 minutes walk).
9.6 Excellent
Pros: All good location good
7.5 Good
Pros: - clean, spacious rooms - everyday service - friendly staff
Cons: - distance from the city center - no option for room without breakfast - price to standard ratio
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The room is very clean and cozy with all the complete facilities like a hotel room with air condition and tv. The beds are super comfortable. The toilet and bathroom are very clean with hot shower and toiletries. The lady owner is very friendly and easy to talk with. There are panaderia, shops and restaurants near the hostel.
Cons: The location is a little far from the main street or center or from the famous Tortuga beach.

With a stay at The Royal Palm Hotel in Santa Rosa, you'll be a 1-minute drive from Galapagos National Park and 9 minutes from Los Gemelos Sinkholes. Featured amenities include a business center, dry cleaning/laundry services, and a 24-hour front desk.
6.3 Good
Pros: Bed and bath were nice Restaurant food and ambiance Service and workers good
Cons: First morning NO water pressure! Internet sketchy room ceiling cracked all the way across remote location price paid not worth the facility
6.3 Good
Pros: Nice fireplace inside the room.
Cons: I would come back to Galapagos with family. Room was way to big only for 1 person.
7.1 Good
Pros: beautiful room, food staff.
Cons: location is far from everywhere and it is high so it is always always gray and rainy so it is a bit gloomy after a while. We had a suite so it was very big but expensive. The hotel is very spread out and you have to walk to your far rooms. That's where the suits are located.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful piece of property! rooms are huge and perfect, hosts are amazing, restaurant is very good, the garden is kept on point! everything looked and was amazing! we stayed here on our last night before heading back home, very glad we did as we got an epic goodnights sleep and its the closest hotel to the airport so it wasn't as long as a drive! if we come back to Santa Cruz we hope to stay for longer at the royal palm.
7.5 Good
Pros: It is a very upscale and classy resort and property, although the weather is basically cloudy and drizzly all day long. It is nice change from Puerto Ayora and closer to the airport, but perhaps not as convenient as one might think because it is remote. The food is very good but it is the only choice. Finally, there are no taxis nearby. The sales staff will offer hotel transfer for $46 per person. This is overpriced. I asked to cancel my transfer and was only offered half of my money back. I feel this is a little bit dishonest and in the long run may work against the hotel. I won't stay here again because Puerto Ayora is a better value. Do yourself a favor and do not book hotel to airport transfer in advance. Instead request a taxi which only cost $25 for up to four passengers. Water taxi is $1 pp and airport shuttle is $5 pp. Taxi option is a much better value. Likewise, do not book any tours in advance -- they are way, way overpriced. Buy your tour for tortoises + lava tunnels in Puerto Ayora for $50 for half day via taxi driver. No need to pay $140 PP for same tour. This is the only lodging in three Galapagos Islands that I do not recommend and endorse. The main problem is not the hotel staff and management. The problem is the dishonest sales staff. I'm unsure whether the owners are behind their policies, but I think they should understand that a 50% "cancellation penalty" and overcharging may ultimately harm their sales.
Cons: The sales staff will offer hotel transfer for $46 per person. This is overpriced. I asked to cancel my transfer and was only offered half of my money back. I feel this is a little bit dishonest.
7.9 Good
Pros: The villa was great, the normal staff is extraordinarily friendly and helpful.
Cons: They didn’t provide an invoice in time, thus I could not get a tax refund. The tours organized by the hotel are just a tourist ripoff. The location is very far away from everything one could visit.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a magnificent hotel with super friendly, warm staff and the largest lava tunnel in the Galápagos on the property! We had an amazing stay here!!! Thank you Sebastian!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location in the highlands. Very quiet, very relaxing. The rooms are huge. The staff were all very nice. Breakfast is included and all made to order. We saw some prior reviews that commented on the restaurant having limited hours, we experienced no such issue, it was open all the time, and all the food was really good, better than expected. It is very quiet with fantastic star & sunset views on clear evenings. We arranged several excursions prior to arrival and they were all fantastic with nice local guides. The lava tunnel on the property is amazing!
Cons: Any complaints we experienced were very minor. The pool was beautiful, but unheated, so just for a quick cool off, not for spending time in. The beds were all very firm, likely regionally 'normal', just be prepared. I wish they had mattress toppers available that would soften them a bit if needed. Built in 2002, some of the facilities (tennis courts) are showing their wear and should be updated.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The villa was beautiful! The lava tunnels amazing!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is one of the best hotels we've ever stayed in. The staff were flawless - warm, friendly and considerate. The food is magnificent, as were the cocktails. The rooms are stunning - we had a jacuzzi in our villa and it just felt regal. The views out over the misty wilderness made for such a calming, beautiful and surreal experience. The facilities are great, with a beautiful lightly heated pool and sauna.

Pros: Great location and staff met me at the train station! Luggage storage was no problem. Wifi on every floor. Simple but decent breakfast. Staff also helped me when I locked my key in my room haha. They showed us where to get out bus tickets and were very helpful with Machu Picchu planning. Also and option to take a boxed lunch to enjoy at the site. Couldn't ask for more.
6.7 Good
Cons: The wifi signal is very poor and dosen't work at all. And there is no improvement even if you complain about it to the receptionist.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location is phenomenal. Close to supermarket, the docks, seafood market, etc. Breakfast was great, staff were friendly, jacuzzi was great after a day on the water, room was clean. Couldn't ask for more! Coming back in a few days after my naturalist cruise
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The location is very convenient for everything. The general vibe of the hotel was pleasant. The staff was nice and accommodating when we asked to change room after the first night, because we didn’t want to be on the ground floor. They also arranged our taxi to go to the airport.
Cons: Nothing in particular, it’s a 3 star hotel and that’s what you get. Don’t expect anything fancy or spectacular. The room was just ok but comfortable.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very good breakfasts. Bar and reastaurant on place. Very good location.
Cons: The room was quite dark.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very good breakfast and perfect location. Modern bathroom facilities. Quiet and safe place.
Cons: WIFI connexion is not good. If your room is far from recepcion, wifi doesn't work. Room design a bit simple, there were not enough places to keep our personal belongings or luggage and most of it was to stay on the floor.
8.0 Excellent
Cons: Mejor iluminación en el cuarto.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location is very good. The facilities in general.
Cons: Breakfast has not much to choose from. No more comments No more comments
6.0 Good
Pros: Location is right off the pier. Close to everything.
Cons: Bathrooms were not as clean as I would want. I had to be moved to different rooms because water preassure was not working in bathroom.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The beds were comfy! The hotel was light and bright! Staff were so helpful! Free breakfast was great and the place was well situated. In addition the free loan of bicycles was useful for the market and to have my sandals fixed! Accommodation is generally more expensive on Galapagos than in the rest of Ecuador and this was therefore good value for money.
Cons: The hot water was cold when we first arrived back sticky and sweaty from Floreana but the staff fiddled around and managed to fix it!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location!! comfortable beds and great swimming pool.

Pros: The air conditioning and breakfast.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Service was great, got Sandwiches for an early tour before breakfast. Clean room WiFi only in lobby
Cons: no hairdryer often noisy due to location no curtains, so rather bright in the room at night

Pros: Super Duper location! Convenient restaurant/ bar next door. Very friendly and helpful! Good laundry service.
Cons: It was pretty spartan.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very kind and helpful. They even changed us to a bigger room. The restaurant was great value, amazing breakfast!
Cons: Wi-Fi was fussy and only worked in the lobby and the restaurant. Bathroom was a bit smelly.
7.9 Good
Pros: - good staff on bar - good cleanliess
Cons: - wi-fi in social area - didn't help with the bags - poor breakfast
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Clean bed and bath room Excellent breakfast in own cafe right next to the hotel
Cons: No Wlan, couldn’t connect once to the Hotel Wlan. Luckily the one from the cafe next door worked. Generally internet is bad on the islands but at least it is working.
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing as we couldn’t sleep.
Cons: It’s very close to some bars/nightclub and super loud all night so impossible to sleep. Also the windows are super thin so all the sound goes through and several big cars passed by... impossible to sleep..
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It’s right by the waterfront and is slightly more refined than most hotels in Santa Cruz. There’s an on site coffee house where we had our first real coffee of our trip and the breakfast was great. Definitely recommend.
Cons: You’ll need to speak a little Spanish here. Also, our showers did cut out intermittently which left us in some awkward situations but it came back on after a few minutes.
4.6 Okay
Pros: Large room - good location
Cons: We were refused and early breakfast pack when we had to go diving - requested the previous day - even though staff were scheduled to be there On Sunday night we got back at 6.15 and we’re told that they were only serving residents - when we told them that we were residents they said that we did not have a reservation and that the chef was leaving - the tennis was on so we stayed to watch the outcome and 5 people were served food The room was very spartan No refrigerator The cab booked for the airport did not arrive ( probably wasn’t booked at all ) Advertised washing machine not available Huge noise from a venue very close by until about 5am Sunday
6.3 Good
Pros: Location was good, close to the harbour. Breakfast was ok as well and staff was friendly.
Cons: Noisy during the night. Not from outside, but rather from hotel staff/owners and family which seemed to live in/close to the hotel as well.
Galapagos Verde Azul - Puerto Ayora - Building

Guests will find Astrea and Santa Cruz Fish Market just a short distance from the hotel. At the end of a busy day, travelers can unwind and relax in the hotel or go out and enjoy the city. Travelers requiring pickup service can book this directly through the hotel.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: One of the cheaper hotel accommodations we could find in puerto ayora. The breakfast was great and the staff was friendly, but one of the managers talked on the phone in the foyer A LOT , and this wouldn’t have been an issue if it didn’t echo into our room. Away from the Main Street it was a quiet hotel with families, which was totally fine for us.
Cons: The hot water takes a minute to kick in, but this is because the hotel is solar powered! Which is awesome. Also, there were no full length mirrors in our room? Overalll, we enjoyed our time here
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very nice staff
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice hotel in Puerto Ayora, located just a short walk to everything. The staff were very helpful and nice. The breakfast is outside by the pool and that is pretty nice :) The shower had plenty of hot water. Recommend!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast is limited but fresh cooked, but all you really need.
Cons: Would be nice to have boiling water available for tea with the coffee
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The room was large and the breakfast was very good consisting of eggs, fruit, and bread. The pool was being filled, so we were unable to use that, but not a big deal as we spent our time exploring all the nearby attractions.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed at two places in his area, and this place was by far the best. Loved the breakfast and the hotel. Clean. Staff was able to speak English which was helpful since I couldn't speak fluent Spanish. They held our bags after check out so that we could hang out in town till we needed to head to the airport. The staff was really nice to us. We had breakfast with the finches. :-)
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff and Antonela in particular wete absolutely amazing: helpful, kind and always available, including organizing taxis and contacting the hotel owner on the mainland to resolve an issue. Fantastic staff!!
Cons: Having to put used toilet paper in a rubbish bin in our bathroom.
10.0 Excellent

Cons: It was not possible to pay with credit card but only cash!

5.0 Okay
Pros: The hostel itself looks nice from the outside
Cons: When we arrived there was no change of a couple of dollar for the room we had to pay. The room we first got had a stench of mold and we requested another room. In the second room was also a stench but less so we accepted only it was much worse when we returned after dinner to the room. There was a big mold spot in the shower. The checkout is pretty early at 9 in the morning
9.2 Excellent
Pros: I liked the location of this hostel, and it was very large with all necessary facilities.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Booked a small double room and got a bit one with two doubles and a single bed complete with a view and sea breeze
Cons: Toilet seat didn’t really fit over the bowl
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location
Cons: No tv , leaky shower
6.0 Good
Pros: The location and the beautiful outside of building with lovely flowers !
Cons: I didn’t expect a “hostel” ...no dishwasher which was on the details. I would have loved a hair blower and nicer linen/towels.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Help for taxis, big kitchen, clean rooms
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable, clean and with a good kitchen. The staff, particularly Jenny, was very kind and helpful. Really good value for money!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Stayed 3 nights in the dorm, good location, hot shower, hot& cold drinking water, full kitchenwares, the room I stayed was quiet at night, nice stuff, good value, highly recommend.
8.3 Excellent
Cons: It was only possible to close the door of the dorm from the outside with a key. I had to leave to the ferry before the reception was open, though I had to leave the key in the room and tried to get the door as much possible closed while putting a shoe of another guest around it from the inside. A dropbox at the reception would really help. I couldn't leave it there as it is open to the street.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful place. Really convenient location.
Cons: Staff wasn’t super clear during check in.

7.5 Good
Pros: Very clean rooms, very kind man searving breakfast
Cons: We love B&B-style accommodation but here we felt like „disturbing“ their family life and not very welcome. For us not a nice feeling during our holidays. Staff speaks no English, communication on basic things becomes a problem. We were the only guests.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful place, clean and cozy. The staff was so kind and they suggested many activities to do. It is the perfect place to relax after a day of adventure, and enjoy the nature of the Galapagos highlands. I fell in love with this place, totally recommended!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel was exactly what I was looking for! A charming, relaxing and peaceful stay. After a long day in town, disconecting from the world and enjoy the nature just looking from my window was just what I needed. In addition to the lovely place, the staff was very kind and the food delicious. Defitnely one of the best places in the Galapagos.
5.8 Okay
Cons: The air conditioner that is pretty mandatory in this area, did not work in the room. The staff was hard to find. The breakfast was very modest. So were the rooms. The whole place looks much better on the pictures than in reality. At the same time we learned that Galapagos in general is very expensive. So this hotel was probably fair price and quality combination to compare the other hotels on islands.

Pros: Big rooms Good sized kitchen Lots of space to chill
Cons: WiFi but common issue for Galapagos Walk into town
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great, quite located, it’s a very nice building! Friendly Staff, clean and lovely decorated, free drinking water was helpful!
Cons: Shower curtain should be changed ;). You don’t need to give soap wrapped in plastic everyday new to the guests :).
4.2 Okay
Cons: We booked this because of the very good reviews, but were very disappointed when we checked in. Location is about 30-40 min walk to the City center and Darwin Research Center. The rooms was big, but outdated and „used“. Very old bathroom and shower. Friendly staff, big only one person could speak English. Would not book it again.
7.5 Good
Pros: It’s such a unique property set about a kilometre from the town centre. We learned that it borders with the national park, so there are no buildings behind it, only a solar energy farm and mangroves. The castle is very peaceful, and the rooms are huge. The hostess made us breakfast every day, and was wonderfully welcoming. We could not have adored our hosts any more than we did, they offered so much help and kindness. We loved how quirky and interesting the whole castle is, with doors leading to secret bridges and balconies. It was a lot of fun.
Cons: There is no air conditioning, only a plug in fan. It didn’t help the muggy heat much. The walls are made of lava rock, which looks great except there are holes and cracks that insects can come through, and they do! My poor husband was eaten alive almost every night by mosquitoes. A mosquito net over the bed would be an easy fix. We had a big beetle problem on the last night, we counted 9 of them sitting in front of the bug zapper in our room. The disinfectant used in the bathroom makes the toilet smell like a urinal, but the smell becomes very strong when the bathroom window is closed at night. An alternative product would help a lot. Seriously, the smell was potent! The cleaning staff was amazing, they did everything they could but the property is in need of more hearty renovation; so it seemed that the hotel could not be made clean.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very friendly very accommodating and helped us with our stay immensely. The staff also left a friendly happy anniversary assortment for us very generous.
Cons: I thought there was a dinner or restaurant on site and there is not. There was some miscommunication with the Room we reserved that they worked out in our favor.
6.7 Good
Pros: The staff were very helpful and suggested things to do in and around Galapagos.
Cons: Better water service, rooms and amenities.
4.6 Okay
Pros: Staff friendly
Cons: We booked 3 rooms 9 months in advance only to find the property management cancelled one of our rooms without telling us
6.7 Good
Pros: Location good
Cons: Property could do with some DIY
7.5 Good
Pros: The building is beautiful and really quite unique. It is in a very quiet corner of town, which was more than welcome for me as Puerto Ayora is a bit hectic in the centre of town. It is only a short 10-15 minute walk into town too. I must admit that I was a bit surprised at there having been a change of management since I made my booking earlier in the year. I feel that although the new management seemed a bit inexperienced at what they were doing, they did try their best to be helpful and accommodating. The food was delicious, and the Saturday evening barbecue was just amazing!

Pros: This place was hella expensive but amazing. The showers were hot and had good water pressure. The water comes out salty, though, so... don't drink it? Weird, but the best shower experience I had in Ecuador. The hotel itself is beautiful and the breakfast is delicious.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: It is a very beautiful hotel. The location, the facilities and the staff were great. Breakfast was also a big plus!
Cons: I enjoyed my stay very much, I just had a bit of a problem cause my room was next to the laundry room and the staff makes a bit of noise in the early morning. It was not too bad though but if you can, try to avoid room 21!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was fresh and reasonable variety, and the service staff was excellent. The most standout positive about the experience was the staff. They were responsive and helpful in every way.
Cons: The cost relative to the package was high. In my home town, the cost of the package provided would have been 1/3rd. Too be fair, the location was excellent. It wasn't on the water, but it is on the main strip and proximate to everything you would wish to get to.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and accommodating staff.
Cons: Breakfast is limited and not bountiful.
