Hotel Hermitage - Portoferraio - Bedroom

9.3 Excellent (390 reviews)

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location, beautiful views, good beach, pristine water, lovely friendly staff, great swimming pools, good food in the restaurants. Awesome swimming teacher, Andrea. The breakfast was good for Italy. Nothing was too much bother.
Cons: The rooms needs a bit of a revamp. The bathrooms and walk in wardrobes were v small for the price compared to other top notch hotels we have stayed at around the world. Also a Nespresso machine and tea making facilities as a standard feature would be nice and maybe a welcome drink/snack/fruit/chocs etc.... When you are paying 1000 euros a night for a family room, expectations are high. The hotel had the feel of slightly faded glory. The first time we ordered room service, they brought us sachets of oil, vinegar, salt and pepper instead of bottles and mills. Not good enough for a 5 star hotel. To be fair they didn’t make that mistake twice.... They also need parasols on the sun beds around the pools, so you can watch your kids in the shade.... 14 euros for an apérol spritz....
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location and views were incredible
Cons: I liked everything
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, the food, the service was excellent
Cons: The beach was not very clean
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location of this hotel is so beautiful. Even though we only paid for a garden view room, they upgraded us to a sea view for no cost. The staff is all bi-lingual and very friendly - we especially found the waitstaff to be great. Carlos at Reception was exceptional - he got us a taxi from the ferry and was very helpful. The room was lovely and comfortable, my only quibble was that there was no iron and the hair dryer was very poor quality. But when you are staying a t beach who really cares! The beach and a pool were exceptional. My mom and I spent the whole day gassing out at the amazing views and had a delicious lunch at the swim up bar in the pool. It was exactly the R&R we were looking for. The food at any of the restaurants at the resort was delicious - including the breakfast. The last night we ate at the main dining hall as everything else was closed for dinner, and while we grumbled a little about having to get dressed up, the food was worth it! We did the pre-fix menu with the salad and dessert buffet, and it is well worth the money. We had a grand time and savored every bite. The last thing I will say is that although the restaurants are great, be forewarned that there are no other places to eat outside the resort if you don't have a car. The resort is on the other side of the mountain so you can't get back to Portoferrio without a taxi, and we didn't want to pay $25 euros for a cheaper meal. But other than that it is exceptional!
Cons: The resort is very secluded so don't expect to go elsewhere once you get there if you don't have a car. I would have liked more casual beachfront options for dinner and a little downtown to do shopping.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The view, the restaurant & the BBQ! Very clean.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Exceptional hotel, staff and location. Couldn't ask for more. First class
Cons: n/a
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Beach area is fantastic. Amazing location. Really relaxing vibe to the hotel. We had the 4 course dinner in the restaurant which we thought was fantastic!
Cons: No tea/coffee facilities in the room would expect a nespresso machine which is pretty standard these days. Although we had some very good service, especially in the evening restaurants! We dined at both. I would say the staff give off an unfriendly vibe in general. Could have more people by the beach. 1 server for the whole beach is quite poor. Travelling in September a lot of close by restaurants were closed for the season.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Superb amenities and location. Excellent staff + service, superb.
Cons: Bathroom not great. Terrible closing loo seats. Should be soft close for 5 star hotel. Silicone around Bath.. poor. Tired paintwork around doors. Otherwise perfect + very clean. Lack of privacy between balconies on bedroom terrace.
6.7 Good
Pros: Nice hotel, nice location but living on it's reputation. Needs to be improved in certain areas such as restaurant options that are not all expensive.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: wonderful hidden location! in the middle of nature with stunning view on portoferraio bay. Very beautiful terrace, cosily furnished, beautiful well kept Garden. I've had a single room, with own bathroom, which was small but absolutely sufficient for my purpose. Breakfast was very good. I certainly can recommend the hotel and I myself will stay there again, for sure...
Cons: ---
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great location, great service, possibility of dining at the resturant (high value for money), very kind staff.
Cons: Proximity of our room to the kitchen (a bit noisy in the morning).
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Spectacular view, kind staff, comfortable room, great breakfast
Cons: Dinner was very-very basic
Hotel Biodola - Portoferraio - Building
3
9.1 Excellent (269 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Hotel Biodola in Portoferraio, you'll be just steps from Arcipelago Toscano National Park and Biodola Beach. Featured amenities include a business center, dry cleaning/laundry services, and a 24-hour front desk. Free self parking is available onsite.
6.7 Good
Pros: Beautiful bay views. Allocated beach beds.
Cons: For us the stay was ruined by our initial welcome (or lack of it!) we arrived around 7pm after a days travelling to be told we couldn’t eat in their restaurant as my partner didn’t have long trousers! This was not stated on their website nor were we warned about this prior to our stay and was the reason we Initially chose this hotel over Hermitage. We were offered toast in room service! This meant every evening we had to walk to the nearest restaurant (which were just as miserable and poor food) or drive out - which we happily did just to get away from the uncomfortable atmosphere at this hotel! The rooms were small, hard beds and flat pillows. Breakfast was good food but ruined by the amount of wasps around. Not one member of staff made us feel welcome. Completely up their own arses! Also the resort is quite restrictive, not much to do. Having visited other bits of the island there are far nicer places to stay.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The beach is wonderful - the sea is pristine. The restaurant on site is excellent, food was delicious, which was good as there are limited options nearby if you wanted to eat out in the evening.
Cons: There were a few things that didn't work well at the hotel. There were a lot of wasps in the outside area during breakfast which surely could be dealt with by exterminators, the hotel charges 3EUR for a small bottle of water in the room and there are no tea/coffee facilities to use as an alternative. I would've also appreciated use of an iron. There was a 1EUR charge for towels at the beach. I found the bar and restaurant staff excellent however the reception staff were quite dismissive at times and didn't provide us with much attention (we would've appreciated more tips of things to do whilst in Elba and a smile/greeting when passing by). The jacuzzi - in the brochure as being heated - was freezing cold. A car is a must for Elba unless you are happy to spend time at the same beach each day.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely staff. The most beautiful location I've ever seen. The beach was clean and glorious with your own sun loungers, towels provided. Very relaxed atmosphere
Cons: There could have been more information in the room regarding food. Dinner especially. A menu would have been nice and alternatives if you did not want anything too formal. Some bathrobes would have been nice too,
7.5 Good
Pros: Very friendly staff Good location Great Beach Food was very good
Cons: Service was quite slow and at dinner we were never offered dessert or coffee etc Suddenly all staff had disappeared
6.7 Good
Pros: The property in general was fine. Staff seemed kind and the room was clean. Breakfast buffet was ok, not extra rich though. Sea is nice, clean. Having a private beach is also an advantage.
Cons: The main problem was the location of the hotel. We had b&b in order to experience the local food at the restaurants nearby. But, forget about it. There are around 5 restaurants at the Biodola bay and none of them are good. You have to drive to the city center/or other bays but we didn’t have a car and the last bus to turn back to hotel was only at 19:30. It’s not possible to walk since it’s really hilly. Additionally, the hotel has interesting regulations. It was not possible to enter to the swimming pool before 9:00 and after 19:00. It’s really early!!! The sun was shining! It also happened several times that they cleaned the room with “do not disturb” sign. Also, keep in mind that you need to pay for the towels at the beach. Only the umbrealla and sun beds are included in the hotel price.
8.8 Excellent
Cons: The bird tapping on my window in the morning
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location and food was fantastic. The beach beautiful and the chairs they provided free with umbrella were very comfortable. The views were unbelievable.
Cons: Hotel should provide towel rack. Customers were placing their towels over the railings. It really took way of the beauty of the hotel.
Hotel Mare - Portoferraio - Building

Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, luggage storage, and laundry facilities. 8.3 Excellent
Pros: The location, sea food, sunsets
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Superb view and location
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location of the hotel in a quiet bay, on the first line, comfortable room with sea view, helpfull staff, good and diverse cuisine. In order to see all the sights of the island you need a car (free parking).
7.1 Good
Pros: Very friendly staff in the reception, easy to park just outside for free, good breakfast, very clean. The second room we stayed in (top floor with a sea view) was much nicer than the first: it seemed recently refurbished and the bed was comfortable, and the view from the balcony was fantastic. Nice pool.
Cons: Noise from other rooms was easily heard. The service in the restaurant was not very good. We stayed in two different rooms, the first (bottom floor) had an uncomfortable bed and was rather worn out. The private beach was not worth going to (especially not when there are so many nice beaches close by).
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was good and very clean. The staff were all very helpful and polite. The only downside is that it's an expensive taxi ride to the town if you want to head out in the evening. Although saying that, they run taxi boat's in the day time. Overall had a very good stay and there was some lovely beaches close by if you fancy a decent bike ride.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great staff Private beach! The hotel restaurant was amazing The room was really quiet and fresh
7.1 Good
Pros: Elba is wonderful location for discovering. Average hotel with an above average price. Personal is ok and friendly.
Cons: The hotel's beach can not be used for swimming. Is not clean. Breakfast is just average without fantasy. No vegetables, tomatoes, olives. In Italy is normal ? I think.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: breakfast is plentiful, and dinner is great too. the location is breathtakingly beautiful and very quiet (when the sailing course is taking a break, that is...)
Cons: perhaps the private beach could be a little nearer
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing family atmosphere, wonderful cuisine, perfect location and lovely staff. Loved it!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was clean, the bed was firm and comfy and it was quiet and calm. Just what we needed. We stayed out of season but it looks like they have facilities for children and a sailing school. Within 15 to 25 minutes we were in easy reach of most of the best beaches and sea side towns as well as Portoferraio, which wasn’t really worth the trip.
Cons: Nothing.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Above all I liked the perfect location close to the sea and the very friendly and good staff. Also the hotels pools were nice.
Cons: No
5.7 Okay
Pros: Lovely swimming pool which was pretty quiet during the day as everyone seemed to go out on day trips. We had a big balcony at the far side at the top so it was quiet and we had a great view. Nice restaurant but book your table during the day for the evening.
Cons: Last boat from Portoferraio was 6.30pm. There was only one restaurant in Maggazini which belonged to the hotel so no choice but the restaurant was lovely and had great live music one evening. Rooms are very basic so it was expensive for what you got.
4.0 Okay
Cons: the food
7.0 Good
Pros: Very nice staff, gorgeous location, decent to excellent food, clean rooms, value for money, peace and quiet, a pleasant pool with lots of loungers, and some enchanting ducksin the yacht harbour who liked to dine with us - the restaurant is on the quayside. They were all drakes, except for one female who turned up one day with three ducklings. There were also two quite seperate ducks from that lot, a black one and a white one, who were clearly deeply in love, were always together and performed an intricate mating neck waving ritual every now and then. So as well as a lovely setting there were things going on! And then there were the other guests.
Cons: Not really, although maybe thehotel might run the occasional minibus to town should there be punters wanting to use it. Travelling by boat to Portoferraio was terrific, and takes about 30 minutes, but the day the weather stopped it coming (too choppy) presented a problem for non car users like us, But the hotel did take us and others to town in their mini bus so they solved the difficulty. The location is OK during the day for getting to and from, but if you take half board, have lunch, and decide to eat in townin the evening - because there are loads of nice places - getting back means a taxi,....and even a car would not help because one woudl be insane to drink and drive on Elba's roads. The island needs a better bus service actually.
5.2 Okay
Pros: The restaurant was very good (a la carte at least). Very clean rooms. Could have good sea view but we had tree view.
Cons: Very poor children facilities and the beach was unuseable. Car was a must.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was great! We liked it a lot. Especially the stuff was friendly and very helpful. The location is about a few steps by the sea, so we felt the sea breeze with hearing the waves all the time.
Cons: Nothing.
6.4 Good
Pros: Staff were welcoming and helpful. Food was simple but fresh. Sea view was beautiful.
Cons: It was a little chilly at night and the room wasn't heated, or at least I couldn't get the radiators to work. Staff did provide an extra blanket though! Also, not the hotel's fault, but there are no buses and the taxi collectivo is infrequent. Standard taxi costs over 20 euros to Portoferraio from Magazzini and there is no way to walk.
7.2 Good
Pros: Quiet but central location and stunning views - being right by the sea. Reception staff and our waiter exceptional nice.
Cons: The dining room which needed suttle lighting given stunning views and more willingness to allow resident guests to sit outside on the terrace [although we were 'allowed to'].Candles inside and out would give perfection to the setting. Maitre d could be friendlier.Perhaps a proper Bar with sitting area would have been good.
6.8 Good
Pros: Position was excellent.
Cons:

9.6 Excellent
Pros: the peaceful locations and gardens
Cons: nothing
5.0 Okay
Pros: Only positives about the hotel is excellent breakfast, nice garden and pool. But more negative points.
Cons: Check inn unfriendly, not at all accommodating, during the day time the different receptionist was friendlier so was night receptionist. Room even tough the only one with a side view of the sea was very small could not even bring in a suitcase.2 single beds of 60/180 was very unconfortable. stayed 3 nights with the same sheets, towels were tea towels couldn't dry properly out of the shower, had to bring or buy your own pool towels.Indeed a 2 star hotel. This should be noted in the brochure. Due to next door construction works , were not able to have a sleep inn they started at 07.00, with heavy machinery. windows had to be open for air, while no aircon,( i know not normal for 2 -3 * hotels) but october has fresh nights, still need the window open. impossible for the summer with over 37C temp. Was stated 3 star hotel but at the hotel it showed 2 star. Stated also in publicity 3 min. walk from the beach, but didn't say that beach was a non-usable beach, rubbish, everywhere, broken boats, area where beach is not cleaned up. also not possible for walking. Area was the wine area and more agriculture then facilities expected . For this and being october price was to high in consideration other 4 star hotels in the area. Will definitely not return.
7.9 Good
Pros: The pool and the gardens were lovely. The breakfast wasn’t very good as was the dinner.
Cons: The bathroom had an odour
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Quiet place, close to the beach. Pension staff really helpful. Nice swimming-pool, good and rich breakfast. You can rent a bike directly in the hotel. It is easy to reach Portoferraio in a few minutes by car.
Cons: In the summer days we would appreciate the air-condition, it was rally hot in the room, mainly during the night.
Hotel Il Caminetto - Portoferraio - Bedroom
6
8.8 Excellent (137 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Il Caminetto is a rustic and comfortable establishment situated in the very centre of Elba Island, the largest of the Tuscan Archipelago, and part of its protected Natural Park. All rooms have independent access. They may be located on the first floor and provided with a balcony, or on the ground floor with access to the garden. Wi-Fi is free throughout. Il Caminetto is surrounded by nature and provides amazing views of the sea. The temperatures in Elba are approximately 4 degrees lower than on the coast, so you will be able to enjoy sunny yet cooler summer vacations. Forget about the chaotic and noisy urban life, and get ready to have wild birds sing your wake up call in the morning. After a healthy breakfast at Hotel Il Caminetto, venture trekking and biking, spend a pleasant day trip to the nearby beaches, or simply enjoy the outdoor pool. Il Caminetto is located in the San Martino Valley, where Napoleon built his summer residence while confined in Elba.
6.7 Good
Pros: Breakfast was a bit disappointing, but more or less what you can expect in Italy.
Cons: The hotel is much further from the beach etc than the pictures. The Wifi didnt work for 2 of 3 days of our stay. And last, but not at all the least, the restaurant was not any good at all.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: the balcony, the pool, the views, the staff and cleanliness, location and food
Cons: very minor comments but bit more drawer space, opportunity for a second coffee at breakfast
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Better than pictures, better than the best comments on Booking, including this one. This hotel is just amazing. Surrounded by charming green mountains and providing a superb view on Portoferraio, this hotel has offered us a romantic, exotic and fantastic stay. Sufficient to say that you have the same panorama as what Napoleon did in 1814, as his summer house is located just 300 m away (5 min walk) : a visit is really worth it and will take you around 45 min. The bus station (line 1) is 150 m away. The bus gets there every hour : 07:15 (first one), 08:15, 09:15, ...19:15 (last one). The room has a rustic style and is very very very clean. The bathroom is smart and comfortable. The garden is just awesome. Finally, the owner and his wife are very kind and lovely. My wife and I unreservedly recommend Il Camineto to you. As far as we're concerned, we will glad to come back. Thank you!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Booked last minute but had a very good welcome. Clean rooms with great view. Breakfast is decent, nice to eat outside. Good location to explore the island. 10min drive from Portoferraio centre.

Pros: First of all I want to say what a great host Valerio was, always with a smile and eager to share information. Anytime we had a question he had the answer and did this with much enthusiasm! Thank you Valerio! Great breakfast and the Anericano Bar was the best!
Cons: Unfortunately people from the free beach were sneaking into the hotel property pool for a swim, this is not right.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very nice and helpful, especially in suggesting nice places to visit and good restaurants on the island.
Cons: The place is really charming, but feels a bit old and shabby. Even though it brandishes 5 stars, it doesn't really feel like it.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great place, nice but expensive restaurant. Amazing sea view from our room, beach, tennis, pool, table tennis.
Cons: Really need a car to get anywhere - hire from the port to avoid paying for a taxi on top.

7.5 Good
Pros: The staff and the food. Charming hotel with beautiful rooms for drinks and food.

4.2 Okay
Pros: La vue , l’emplacement
Cons: - you only for the view otherwise everything else is expensive . Depends on the season but the hotel is far from everything . Taxi will cost 25 euros to go to the nearest village and 25 euros to go back to the hotel . Super expensive . No supermarket near . Since it’s far you have to eat dinner at the hotels restaurant which is additional 25 euros . The hotel director super super super RUDE . He doesn’t speak English so he doesn’t welcom you or ask you if you are ok . I asked just for an aspirin or a vitamin he laughed at me . If you speak Italian he might say hello to you . The girls at the reception and the restaurant were nice and helpful . I asked for a large double bed ,they gave me twin beds so you finish your night in the middle of the bed almost falling . The house keeper don’t think about if you are sleeping at 8 am or on vacation ,they move all the furnitures in the other rooms to clean so they wake you up. Food has nothing special so since there is no supermarket next to the hotel you have to pay double for everything . No even free water to welcome you . In October ,There is a bus, but only at 9 am or at 2 pm so if you have to come back to the hotel add 25 euros for the taxi . Anyways better to stay somewhere else . Not really worth the money . If you are not athletic there is a private beach but 200 steps to go down and up . So basically not going back to that hotel . There are so much better hôtels in the island .
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great little hotel, comfortable room with terrace onto garden overlooking the sea, perfect for a glass of proseco late in the afternoon. Staff was great, friendly and professional. Breakfast buffet was fantastic. Set menu in the evening was really good. We stayed an extra 2 nights, so much we loved it. Great base for touring the highland.
Cons: No wi fi in the room only on common areas.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great view. Friendly staff. Really clean.
Cons: All good except that with a small kid (<2y in our case), it might not be the most convenient hotel (quite some stairs, away from main facilities...). But perfect place otherwise.
7.5 Good
Pros: The private beach beside the property is really nice and not too far to walk. The views from the patio are also stunning.
Cons: My husband woke up the first morning to find ants all over his pillow. We complained and the problem was solved very quickly. I also think there should be a sign on the fridge explaining that there is a charge for the water. The water in the taps was too salty to drink and we assumed this was why there was free water in the fridge. We were surprised to be charged for it at check out and would have purchased water at the grocery store (at a much cheaper price) had we known.
7.9 Good
Pros: Setting...... view from superior room..... outside space space/beach
Cons: Coffee and organisation of breakfast buffet
10.0 Excellent
Cons: Amazing location with the fantastic view and charming personnel, perfect sevice.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff were very friendly and helpful
Cons: The charge for doing laundry was extremely expensive!
9.6 Excellent

4.6 Okay
Cons: Beach side is very small and stony, absolutely not suitable for swimming. Pictures make false impression that hotel have nice beach side.
7.9 Good
Pros: The room was nice. Facilities was good and the breakfast was really delicious. The staff was nice.
Cons: The location was nice, good view to Portoferraio. But it is terrible to walk there, and to walk to nearby resturants. It only has one street to the hotel, with no pavement and no street lights. We walked with our baby in a stroller, praying that no car would hit us, after we had dinner, in a resturant close by.
7.1 Good
Pros: Location was stunning!
Cons: Air con was very weak and needed to be a lot stronger! Despite being set on the max and coolest setting it was not great! Spa was awful and despite being advertised as such is separate from the hotel!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel has a beautiful pool, also some sunbeds nearby on a small beach area. It was pleasant to stroll beside this. Food was good, staff friendly and helpful. Room more than comfortable. Only problem was the hotel was so nice we did not want to leave it to sight see!
Cons: Would have been nice to have coffee served at breakfast instead of self service. Don't recommend the scrambled eggs!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The property was very nice and clean. Rachele, the boss from the front desk, was extremely supportive, friendly, highly professional and engaged. In general, the whole staff was very friendly and we loved the atmosphere and positive spirit of the hotel. The fish grill dinner with a big antipasto and dessert buffet was excellent. We enjoyed every minute, thank you!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Staff friendly restaurant great food bar and pool area relaxing
Cons: Had to get a taxi into town. Roads not friendly for walking 2 trips to town 60 euro
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast Good ! Situation and facilities perfect. Clean, friendly staff. Rooms a bit depressing.... not charming.
Cons: Upgrade of the rooms and the bathroom
7.9 Good
Pros: Very delicious breakfast, big room and even bathroom, nice staff, conveniently near the port and a good spot to travel around island.
Cons: Nice beach but probably because vicinity of the port the sea isn't very clean, so don't expect a jump in. There is a nice pool instead if you like a lot of kids. Pool toilets should be cleaned more often, they were beyond words at out stay there. Also white lobby furniture and grass beanbags are far from white and inviting and the pond in front of the hotel looks very deserted. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice enough place but with a bit more care and put some thought in it, it can be great. Oh, one more...please mow the grass after 9, on holidays we like to sleep in sometimes.

Pros: Beautiful setting with view of sea in distance. Easy free parking, short drive to restaurants and seaside town of Portoferraio. Very friendly and helpful front desk personnel. Lovely dining room and terrace for good breakfast. Highly recommend!
5.0 Okay
Pros: Location is good and the staff is nice
Cons: Too expensive for the quality . The room shouldn't cost more than 70, 80 euros maximum. We paid 118 per night for a very basic room. We had to pay to rent a beach towel. For the price we paid they should provide that service for free.
6.3 Good
Pros: The location was peaceful and nearby a beach. 15 minute walk required to get to the center.
Cons: When we arrived the elevator was broken and they didn't manage to fix it during our 3 days staying. We were at the 2nd floor and had to carry our heavy bags ourselves up and down. Our room was very warm and after asking for someone to inspect our Airco the receptionist friendly replied that they turned off the airco in the whole building because it was not warm anymore at that moment... (September 26-28°)
9.2 Excellent

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Loved the location and the people
Cons: I like a softer bed and a bit bigger room. It was pretty small. Overall it did not matter as we enjoyed the place and the people.
7.0 Good
Pros: The hotel offers a very relaxed atmosphere, friendly and competent staff, wide selction of breakfast items and a convenient location.
Cons: The soundproofing between rooms was somewhat lacking. The noises included the hair-dryer, the extraction fans and the flush from neighbouring bathrooms. The room were a little damp.

Cons: THE BEDS!!! We could feel every spring in our beds. Buy bed topp or change the beds.

Pros: The installations are great, the swimming pool is huge, the staff is really nice, the room and the bathroom are big and outstanding for what you use to find in Italy. Very good.
7.1 Good
Pros: Amazing garden
Cons: Basic room, too expensive
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a beautiful place with the best swimming pool I have ever encountered at a resort. It is perfect for serious swimmers. However the little bay is an easy walk and the hotel has complimentary deck chairs as part of the deal. This resort seems almost exclusively run by women and they do a tremendous job. They are helpful, thoughtful and endlessly cheerful. This is our favourite resort in Europe.
Cons: Nothing, it was all perfect, including the weather.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, swimming pool and beach
Cons: Simple but clean and comfortable
9.2 Excellent
Pros: A residence was really nice with nice and helpful service and many opportunities for families (for example: cooking and pool for kids). Ideal to have a breakfast outside with a beautiful view.
Cons: The furnitures were a little old and the bathroom need to be renovated. Other than this everything was clean and cozy.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The resort setting is charming, a “green” concept is unique
Cons: It might need a bit refurbish inside
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location
Cons: Fittings in the apartment.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The resort facilities, the pool was fantastic and the location was good close to beach & restaurants
Cons: The furniture, kitchen & bathroom are very basic and tired which let the accommodation down, the apartments are a good size with lovely terraced
4.6 Okay
Pros: Beach, parking garage.
Cons: Dark rooms, one bedroom had just one tiny window, poor furniture quality, cold children's pool (sea was bit warmer), closed reataurants during lunchtime, no food store nearby. In the building was parking but unlogically our parking space was in the oposite parking lot. One of the biggest disappointments so far. Pictures on the website contradicts the reality. Overpriced for what we got. We decided to leave this and stayed elsewhere.
7.5 Good
Pros: Friendly staff, beautiful surroundings, very basic apartments. The restaurant on site is lovely as are the few restaurants near the beach.
Cons: Very remote so a car is a must.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location is good and central for a beach, and easily accessible for town or port sides of Portoferraio. The staff are exceptionally kind, friendly and efficient. It was a pleasure to stay there. The rooms have all you need and are very clean. The breakfast buffet is welcoming, the cakes delicious. Compliments and thanks to the team there.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hotel just steps from the beach. We were upgraded to a sea view room without having to ask since the hotel wasn’t full.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Fully-serviced hotel with comfortable and well-equipped rooms, excellent dining room and friendly and competent staff. I have stayed there several times and there is nowhere else in Portoferraio that gives as good value for money or such a good guest experience.
Cons: Just one minor point was that the light in the room wasn't bright enough to enable reading at the desk and there was no desk lamp.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: This hotel a good choice for staying at Portoferraio; just a short walk from the ferry, and just up from one of the better beaches on the island.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Good location
Cons: This hotel was terrible value for money I paid a lot of money for a tiny room Bathroom window didn’t open He had a garden / road view with works being done early morning and it was noisy The TV was fixed high up on wall and dad found it difficult to hear it unless volume was high and it disturbed neighbours so he could not even watch tv in his room and he had to join the common room Meals were in the garden and birds would fly over his head Overall I would never ever consider rebooking this The staff was awful to my father and the room was terrible I paid a fortune and I feel it was an utter rip off
5.8 Okay
Pros: To be fair we didn’t stay at Villa Ombrosa because it was closed for repairs. Upon arrival we found a note on the door directing us to Hotel Acquamarina about a half mile up the road, which deserves 5-stars on all counts.
7.5 Good
Pros: We spent the final 3 days of our holiday in Elba at Villa Ombrosa as we wanted to be near to the port for our return home. Location is good with easy walk into town, harbours and port and just across the road to the beach with free sun beds. Staff all friendly, helpful and efficient. Reception staff always available. Room was clean, shower was hot. Lovely outdoor terraces with views out to sea. Breakfast was usual typical self service with adequate choices. Had dinner on the first evening but didn’t bother again. Service was good with lovely waitresses but we weren’t overly impressed with the meal. Ok but nothing special. We made use of the free cycle hire one day which we enjoyed.
Cons: Our room was clean but rather dark. The walls were painted dark orange which didn’t help and we could hear noise from adjoining rooms. It was a rear room with a small patio area facing a wall and we suffered quite a few mosquito bites in spite of keeping the door closed etc and we ended up buying a spray repellent. The rooms at the front with balconies facing the sea would be much nicer but you probably don’t get allocated these when using an online booking site.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: It was just a short walk from the ferry. The reception was very helpful. And we got two free bikes (they have 5 bikes) which was very useful when going to and around the old town. We also went west along the beach road where you find the best white beaches which all are along the northside. Room was nice with view to the sea and the old fort. Breakfast is the standard you get at many bigger hotels - nothing special. But the waiters are nice and do their job fast.
7.9 Good
Pros: Location and private beach area - bottle of bubbly left in the room for my birthday - breakfast very good and served outside on the terrace - beautiful view from our two sets of patio doors
Cons: Thought the older members of reception staff were not always friendly and ready to help - could not fault the younger ones and the ladies waiting tables and looking after food at breakfast were lovely
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great view and excellent breakfast
Cons: Bathroom was good but as usual with the Bidet its a bit cramped. Shower takes a little time to warm up but its very hot here so not too much of an issue.

This charming hotel is set in Elba Island. There are a total of 48 bedrooms at San Giovanni. Those who dislike animals may enjoy their stay, as this establishment does not allow pets.
6.7 Good
Pros: The price was good. The breakfast was adequate to good. The location was a bit of a hassle.
Cons: The staff was not on duty 24 hours/day.
2.5 Mediocre
Cons: I book 10 night for this hotel, but I never stay cause 4 days before my exact dateI had a operation. My stomach was bothering me for several weeks, so I went to the doctor who then referred me to the hospital, where I had operated on immediately because I had a cyst in my womb and had been removed immediately because it was dangerous to live with it, because of this I was operated immediately and I was no longer able to go on vacation. I contacted the hotel, the hotel did not want to give me a refund because it was in their conditions, the hotel give me the opportunity to book again for those 10 days until the end of October 2019, so I could pick a date. But they quickly have their thoughts changed and suddenly this was no longer feasible. I haven't heard from the hotel since. I therefore think that other people should be kept informed here, because this is an unfair hotel. I have submitted all papers and documents from the hospital as proof. They never reply or contact me again. So people if u ever have a force majeure situation (everyone can happens, then this hotel will do nothing for u) I am now planning to start legal proceedings against the hotel. Zowel de staf als de mensen die hier werkzaam zijn zeer oneerlijk en telefonisch zijn ze in eerste instantie erg betrokken maar kunnen desondanks niks voor je betekenen. Opgelet dus!
7.5 Good
Pros: Perfect place for those who come with a car and want to explore the island. All basic facilities, good air con, balcony, nice and sunny pool to chill.
Cons: There was a very, very loud and noisy youth party one night - we haven't been noticed about that event before and we couldn't sleep even with earplugs.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Pool and area was excellent. Super friendly staff. We rented a studio that was smartly equipped. Great location, few min drive to center (Portoferraio) or the larger supermarket, garden shop, or a store that sold local stuffs (wine,oil..etc), small convenience shop in 500 m. 10-12 min drive to the excellent beaches in the southern part of Elba. Wifi available in the rooms, not only in the common areas (although recommended to review the logon setup with the IT provider).
Cons: Breakfast - small selection, and no vegetables.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Swimming pool,
4.2 Okay
Pros: It was a place to stay.
Cons: It was extremely dated, dingy, and overall would not stay here again.

7.5 Good
Pros: They are so friendly and simply. I also like the dinner that they offer and live music every Wednesday.
7.9 Good
Pros: Swimming pool
Cons: Breakfast... should be better
8.3 Excellent
Pros: High value for money Very clean bathroom and comfortable room. The swimming pool is very nice but it was too cold to take a bath :-)
Cons: Breakfast to be paid as an extra could be better. Quite problematic for me the need to check in within 11 pm.

Pros: The proprietors and staff are tip-top. The food excellent and location out of this world. Just could have done with a bigger bathroom. This is my second visit and the bathroom this time was just too small.
Cons: See above.
7.9 Good
Pros: The location was excellent. Good for local bus and onward journeys to see rest of island by public transport.
Cons: Being English and Vegetarian did pose one or two problems and being shown to the incorrect room on arrival (which was such a beautiful situation) and then being told the receptionist had got it wrong did mare our arrival a little.

6.7 Good
Pros: Good location, easily accessible
Cons: The customer experience was influenced by a couple of factors which could be improved by the hotel management. The policy of seating in the hotel restaurant is quite rigid, and often it doesn’t really make sense, having the sole implication of degrading the pleasure of the stay. Even if the restaurant is half empty, customers are sent to their “pre-assigned table”, which may be in the corner of the restaurant, behind a wall, with no really enjoyable view. The waiter/waitress stated that it was not possible to use one of the other many empty table since then “the towel needed to be changed”, which is something that needs to be done anyway. A note is that Air Conditioning is not included, and is provided upon payment of an additional fee. It is something that it is indirectly stated in the hotel facilities, but worth mentioning.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: We loved the private beach that the hotel offered. It was such a special addition, and was relatively quiet most of the time. We shared many moments there, and for this reason alone, we would definitely come back to the hotel.
Cons: Some of the staff could have been a bit nicer. The man at the front desk could have been more friendly, and showed a bit more enthusiasm. I appreciate we didn't speak much Italian, but it would have been nice for him to be more friendly. That makes a guest feel more welcome. The rest of the staff were all very nice and friendly. However, as much of our interaction was with this man as the front of staff, it made us feel uncomfortable to ask for anything.
7.5 Good
Pros: Dinners in restaurant were great at a fixed price
Cons: The extra charges for air conditioning
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great beach
Cons: Room a little dark
9.2 Excellent

Cons: Extra charges to use the air conditioning, jacuzzi, etc. The restaurant was also just ok.
7.9 Good
Pros: Access to private beach. Beautiful view.
Cons: They charged us $2 per beach towel. We had to request for air conditioning. Refrigerator did not work.
6.7 Good
Pros: Breakfast and evening meals were good. Staff were friendly. Great place to ocean swim except for Jelly fish larvae! Rooms were clean and comfortable.
Cons: Everything was at additional cost. i.e had to pay for beach towels, sun chair plus umbrella separately. No Wi-Fi except in designated area and was of poor quality. Not all activities were available. Had to ask for aircon as the controller were kept at reception. Location was a bit far from town.
10.0 Excellent
