After staying in a nearby hotel the previous week, I was worried about the noise in the area (we couldn't sleep until the DJ stopped at 4am). Luckily this was not a concern at this hotel. While the area can be extremely loud, our room was quiet and we were able to get a good night's sleep. Checkin was quick and friendly, the room was very clean, comfortable, and the location was very near the bus station and plenty of good local restaurants. It's no fancy resort, but if I'm looking for a good value hotel in Playa del Carmen I would have no hesitations to book there again. We didn't get a chance to use the pool but it looked inviting and clean. A/C was cold and didn't have the musty smell that is common in hotels in this price range. There was no breakfast included, but with all of the good restaurants in the area I would prefer to go out to eat. Overall I was very happy with our stay.
Luna Sol is truly paradise in Playa del Carmen. The hotel is located two minutes from all the excitement of fifth Avenue but it’s totally quiet at night. The hotel is owned by a couple from Quebec, And although we never met them, the staff was super friendly and went out of their way to make sure that we had a wonderful stay. The room was extremely clean and the beds were comfortable. I know that Mexican beds can be hard so I asked if they could put some foam down ahead of time and they did. They have coffee out each morning and there are great little restaurants all around the property that are filled with locals and not tourists. The pool area was lovely and you could get a great massage from the waterfall! All around I would highly recommend Luna Sol!
Nothing at all. Our stay was fantastic!
I appreciate very very very much the staff. They are the most helpful and caring so far I met during my travel (Jorge, Victor, and I forgot one more's name -- sorry). Upon my arrival, I was lucky that I could find a parking right out of the hotel (the space should be for at least 5 cars; if you are interested). The next day I returned to the hotel, and the parking was full. Jorge was so nice to help me empty the space in front of the hotel gate. On the third day, I had to here express my gratitude to Jorge. I got a high fever and I wanted to taste Tamale (a kind of food). The medicine I got from a pharmacy did not work. Jorge kindly suggested me to use TABCIN 500 and told me where I could buy Tamale. In additional to that, I was very unlucky that an awful Starbucks cashier worker there committed a fraud when I purchased a coffee using my credit card. At night I used to check my bank account and I found a transaction of 3075 CAD for air tickets from the local airline called Interjet Tuloca, EM . I was in a panic because my Canadian roaming was via Telcel (a local service provider) that blocked me from calling to Canada. Jorge spent a lot of time to help me use the hotel phone free of charge. Still, the local service provider did not allow us to call to Canada. Jorge told me where the telephone store was and I could successfully block the credit card and disputed the transaction. I got it done but it was too late that another staff replaced him on duty. Jorge, I thank you very much for your help that night ! (later I found the fraud was commited by a Starbucks cashier worker by investigation after I went back to Canada; the black Starbucks store was in the mall in PASEO DEL CARMEN, for your information, the address is Calle Quinta Avenida mz 21 lt 8, Centro, 77710 Playa del Carmen; please do not use credit card there; for emergency, Telcel. the local service provide in Cancun region, does not allow us to call overseas; calling overseas was cheap -like 20 pesos)
Let me continue my good comments here: I like the location. It was very close to shopping region, food, shopping malls. My room faces the street but it was quiet at night (Monday - Thursday). Water is hot. Washroom is clean and new. The owner was Canadian (from Quebec) !
We have gone to this hotel 5 times now and have had a excellent experience every time. The staff is very friendly, the rooms and outside pool area are very clean and cheerful. The sunny yellow and orange colors used throughout make it feel very Mexican and tropical. Love it! Too many other small hotels are painting their properties all white trying to look like a spa --hate those! I could go to a spa at home if I wanted a sterile feeling --- not at the LunaSol! I recommend to many friends and family every year.
They could use some ceramic coffee mugs for the outside kitchen, but otherwise, would not change a thing.
The staff was so friendly and nice and they also helped us a lot and were comprehensible at the checkout as I did not feel good and they gave us the time needed for it.
