The location is great, the view from the twin rooms facing the mountains is fabulous, the Japanese food was wonderful and the genuine sulfur onsen was the right temperature. This place is perfect for the price if you get the half board included. My friend and I stayed two nights, and it was very memorable here. The husband and wife work so hard to make you comfortable and their English is just fine. You are up in the mountains above Nikko, so be prepared for it to be very chilly even in May. The bus from Nikko station will drop you off and pick you up right in front of the lodge.
Like many smaller onsen inns or lodges, be prepared for noisy groups on Saturday nights.
The staff was very welcoming and was the highlight of the stay together with an amazing view and delicious dinner!
We had a corner room with many windows and nice views. Dinner was great, especially the fish. We accidentally left two items behind which, upon request, were mailed to our address in Tokyo after a couple of days - great service in that respect. We are very grateful!
The mattresses and pillows of the western-style room were exceptionally hard, very uncomfortable. The hotel has a small onsen facility in the basement, quite underwhelming for an onsen village. I had expected something a bit more special. The water was very nice, though. The staff spoke hardly any English at all, but we managed. Very peculiar I found that at check-out, the room rates could be paid by credit card whereas the tax had to be paid in cash. It is the first time we encountered such a split in Japan.
Okunikko Park Lodge Miyama practically offers direct access to Yumoto Ski Resort, only a 6-minute walk away. The hotel provides ski rentals, a natural hot spring bath and a dining area that overlooks the ski area. Free wired internet is available at the meeting room, which is accessible to all guests. Japanese-style rooms have futon bedding on tatami (woven mat) flooring. They are equipped with heating, a TV and an en suite bathroom. Guests at the Miyama Okunikko Lodge can go skiing, unwind in a soothing public hot spring, or browse the souvenir shop for local products. The hotel provides luggage storage, and it offers free parking. A Japanese breakfast can be enjoyed at the dining room, while watching early skiers from the large windows. A Japanese dinner is offered in the evenings. Park Lodge Okunikko Miyama is less than a minute's walk from the Yumoto Onsen Bus Station. It's an 11-minute walk from Lake Yunoko, and an 8-minute drive from the Senjogahara Marshland in Nikko National Park.
