Everything. The location is great, very close to everything but not close enough so you hear it. The Inn is lovely, just what you would expect from a seaside town in New England. The room was wonderful, cosy, clean, a big comfy bed, nice and peaceful. Didn't use it, but wasn't expecting the jet tub. Breakfast was in the penthouse. Warm muffins, then eggs, bacon, yogurt and fruit. Great start to a Sunday! Our apologies to Heidi, we forgot the main door code and had to call at midnight to get back in after our adventures in town. Sorry
There isn't anything to dislike, it's a lovely place to stay.
You can't beat the location. You can walk to everything. The dining area on the third floor is a large all glass room facing the bay with beautiful views where we watched the sunset! Ron made us a delicious breakfast starting with warm muffins and a choice of breakfast made fresh in the kitchen while we waited. Lovely way to start a Sunday morning. The bed was comfortable with a bonus gas fireplace in the room. We also had an enclosed balcony as well as an exterior balcony which would be lovely in the summer. A little too cool for us since it's still winter. The building itself is very quaint and the staff was friendly, the check in easy and check out even easier. We thought it was a great find and would definitely come back again.
The overall experience here was too good to say anything negative. For some picky vacationers they could find issues such as having the sink in the main living space rather than in a full bathroom, weak pressure in the shower which doesn't bother me and somewhat dated furnishings. But for a bed and breakfast in Newport for a last minute getaway we thought it was excellent.
Great location. Parking lot a big plus. Close to Cliff Walk and ability to walk down to Thames street. Staff was welcoming and friendly. Spectacular views from the 3rd Floor kitchen area.
It was clean, quaint and cozy. The room was lovely, we had our own enclosed porch overlooking Spring Street. The breakfast was great! I loved the room at the top of the house, and sharing the table with the other guests was nice. We shared stories of our hometowns, our trip and the sights we saw. It was our first time at a property like this, we usually stay at a chain hotel, but wanted something different this trip. It was a wonderful experience!
The only thing I would suggest is to put a box of tissues in the room!
Loved the price and that Phil gave us a better room, since the place was mostly unoccupied except for one night of our three day stay, there were three other couples staying for one night. LOVED the location! Walking distance to everything. The ELMS was just across the street! We like to walk and got enough exercise to merit eating the fantastic breakfast served each morning. Our only complaint would be that the mattress we slept on has seen better days. The "memory foam" was remembering the 1600lb weight that must have been placed in the center that created a depression. They mentioned doing some renovations, face lifting, to the house over the winter, just hope that includes a new mattress for the room we stayed in. Overall we both enjoyed our stay and would recommend the Artful Lodger to others. Its not fancy, but the hosts are super nice and helpful, the breakfasts were yummy and the location was perfect.
