The only good thing about this hotel was its location, which is extremely close to the Lexington Avenue / 53rd Street subway station in midtown Manhattan. There were other bonuses to this location: 24 hours pharmacy and 24 hours McDonalds, for those of us who have to arrive or leave in the middle of the night for flights from other parts of the world or the country.
There was nothing that went spectacularly wrong. Instead, and this is probably worse, there was a series of really awful examples of bad amenities, bad services and bad behavior. Let me specify: 1. Staff: The worst things about this hotel is the staff. For example, when we arrived late in the evening after a very long flight, the gentleman at the reception barely looked up from his computer screen and barely mumbled a welcome greeting. The entire check-in process was with him staring at his precious computer screen without bothering to make eye contact--like a normal human being would--with the customers standing in front of him. 2. Services: The services are equally bad as the staff. For example, once the housekeeping staff forgot to put toilet paper in our room. When we called, we were told someone would be up with the roll. Nothing happened, so we had to go down and get it. Similarly, we went to the reception to ask for something. At the reception, instead of serving the customer, the staff member and the manager were busy chatting with each other and ignoring us for a while. Is this normal service? 3. Amenities: The hotel is part of the Hilton chain, but the rooms belong in a 3rd-rate motel. There were multiple bulbs that were not working and the coffee-making barely functioned. The room was so compact, that the two of us could barely move and there was hardly any space for our luggage. Similarly, when we asked to leave our luggage in the hotel while we waited for our flight, our bags were sitting in the lobby for a long while [where anyone could have swiped them], instead of being put immediately into the locked luggage room. 4. Shady behavior: Nobody seems to take responsibility for anything, and everyone is busy taking shortcuts. For example, we asked the bellman about transportation to the airport. He recommended a car service for a reasonable price. It was a higher price, they did not take credit cards, and the driver was terrible!
Great location! Close to so much. Walking distance to many things at the same time a bit away from the noise and crowds of the west side. Great bagel store 2 blocks away, pharmacies on every corner, starbucks and dunkin donuts on several corners, bloomingdales a few blacks away, anntaylor across the street, nice restaurants within same distance. Subway is a block away and the bus is just around the corner. Yet, hotel was quiet. Staff so very welcoming.
The employees were friendly and welcoming. Jacqueline, especially, accommodated us in every way.
The lobby area did not feel clean; somewhat disappointed compared to our last visit.
Shower was excellent, room was spotless, bed and pillows very comfy. Bar was pleasant and bartender also. Front desk very friendly and efficient
Little fridge made a funny noise ...had to unplug it.
