What are the cons of staying at East Pier Hotel?
There is a restaurant on site. The black out curtains! Old beds uncomfortable. All pillows were really high so uncomfortable to sleep on but bed was very comfortable. Couple of tiny things, not worth a mention. Having to lug our suitcases up 2 flights of stairs as there was no elevator. Nobody on reception upon check in. Having to walk past the large rubbish/skip bin and delivery truck to find the door to the bar/pub and back again. There should have been a door chime/bell or something on the counter. Noise in hallways at night. Probably being near docks and other guests talking near reception. Milk in a jug, or carton would have been appreciated as opposed to in a cup that was impossible to pour without making a mess. Staff - distracted and inattentive, but polite enough. Toilet seat was very dysfunctional! Scaffolding outside the room. This was mentioned when we did the online booking, so not a surprise and it is only temporary. There was no toaster and no lift to take gears upstairs. Didn’t like that our room was so close to the restaurant and the music was really loud on Saturday night (until midnight). Next time, will look at a room at the other end of the hotel. Smell of the room nice furnishings bar and restaurant on site breakfast/brunch superb. The room had a must smell, and the icebox needed defrosting. Otherwise good. The room didn’t have a sink in the kitchenette. There was no dishwashing liquid to clean utensils. It wasn’t a major as we ordered room service but we ran out of knives and forks lol. Breakfast was good, warm plates great, however it does melt the butter and unfortunately two of our group got runny butter on their clothes when opening it. Smell of cigarette smoke from other guests when sitting outside. Receptionist wasn't present at the desk and it was hard to get attention when we arrived and again when leaving. If there is like parties inside the hotel and your room is near the venue/restaurant you can hear the noise from other guest. The room had an oddly unusable "kitchen" area---kettle, cutlery, plates and a microwave. Nice idea, but it was also very cramped which made making use of it really difficult. There were little flies buzzing around the restaurant area when we went to breakfast. The price and the grass could of been collected it looked terrible. Resturant not open. Bird droppings on deck (outdoor dining area) need to be cleaned off. Paid $400 for the one night stay. Expected an amazing room but it was only a standard room like other hotels we stay in.
