8.8 Excellent
Pros: the room is spacious and the view of the garden is good.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Staying in this ryokan-hotel was a real japanese experience. The onsen are spacious and relaxing. The staff was nice and spoke a bit of english. The location is good even if you plan on visiting the cities around because of the train station nearby.
7.5 Good
Pros: The location is good and the onsen is quite nice.
Cons: The dinner was not up to our expectations. The food was not too fresh. Breakfast was in a big hall and it was very crowded. Food quality was not to our expectations too.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The common areas of the hotel were very clean and lovely. We stayed at this hotel twice (at the beginning and the end of our trip through Japan)--the first time, our room and bedding was very clean; the second time, the bedding was stained and the room felt like it needed some attention (wallpaper was falling down). The onsen was the BEST! They switch the men's and women's sides each evening, so if you stay for two nights or more, you get two different onsen experiences. The onsens were big, beautiful, and clean. We loved this part of our stay. The breakfast buffet was lovely--what a spread! Lots of people go to breakfast in their yukatas (summer kimonos), which felt relaxing and fun for our group from the U.S. The location on the river was excellent for evening strolls, and there are many buses to and from the town so that you can see Matsue, Izumo, and other surrounding areas. I would highly recommend this ryokan to those traveling to the Shimane area.
Cons: The bedding on our second stay was stained and needed to be replaced. The room also looked like it needed some basic maintenance. But in general, the hotel is lovely, clean, and nice--perhaps this room just needed a little attention. On our other stay at this hotel (on the same trip), our room was clean and the bedding was also clean and unstained.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel and all of the staff are amazing and very accommodating. Even with the language barrier and my lack of Japanese the staff were amazing and more helpful than I could imagine. The hotel is very beautiful, the garden is breathtaking and I would not want to stay anywhere else but Gyokusen. I would recommend this hotel to everyone coming to Matsue.
Cons: I loved everything and would not change one thing about this hotel. It was an amazing experience.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: - spacious and clean room - huge onsen - good buffet breakfast - friendly and helpful staff - free parking
Cons: - a little inconvenient to reach without a car
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is very large and beautifully maintained, especially the huge Japanese garden that guests may walk through. There were a variety of baths to enjoy and the rooms were spacious and clean. The shuttle bus service from the station was very convenient. The food was excellent. There was an evening performance in the lounge area of local folk songs and dances, too, Wonderful experience.
Cons: Everything was great!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The spa was great, we enjoyed it a lot. The Japanese-style room was very cosy and we slept really well. The breakfast was generous and had a lavish variety of dishes.
Cons: There were no normal convenience stores close to the hotel. It was also a bit difficult to find a place to have dinner if you're not eating in the hotel. The staff do not really speak English but are very helpful and nice.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Manager who spoke english and French was most helpful and welcoming.
Cons: Would have preferred a buffet dinner and more western food at breakfast
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was amazing! Super fancy! They had bigger size of yukata that guests can wear. I’m a big person so I was super shocked they had varies sizes. Food was good! Staff was amazing. They did have someone that spoke English so that helped a lot.
Cons: The arcade/game section was very small. More like a little game corner. If you were above the karaoke rooms you can hear people sing. The karaoke rooms were on the first floor and I was in the third floor and I could hear the person sing perfectly. They need to invest in soundproofing those rooms.

Pros: I booked the annex for three nights and it was very cozy and spacious. Since the restaurant of the Hotel is the only place to get food in town I had breakfast and diner there as well. And it was well worth the money. The food is amazing! The staff was very friendly and helpful and took good care of the guests.
Cons: There is no wifi in the annex.
8.3 Excellent

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and great services from owner and all the staffs. Fantastic food. Picturest view from hotel. “homey and very welcome feel”
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff and great food. A wonderful place to spend a couple of days.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location is amazing if you like to be in a more quiet natural setting. We really loved our stay in this tiny fishing village. There are a couple of nice walks and a morning temple ceremony that is beautiful. It's about an hour and twenty minutes bus ride to matsue. We stayed in the annex, I think it would definitely be better value for money if there are more of you. Its very characteristic and traditional, as I said before could do with a bit more attention to detail with cleaning but it's by no means dirty so don't let that put you off. All the facilities in the annex are excellent except the WiFi, maybe for some it would be a plus to have no WiFi, we found it a bit frustrating for when we were try to organise travel plans etc. We had both breakfast and dinner, they were nice meals, there doesn't seem to be a lot of choice restaurant wise so you will probably end up eating here. It's a family run place and there is a friendly, helpful atmosphere. The owner kindly picked us up from the train station, which is lucky as I think we would have struggled getting to it ourselves. I'd recommend this place if you want to experience somewhere quiet and a bit different.
Cons: Maybe a bit more attention could be paid to cleaning as it was quite dusty in the annex and there were a couple of hairs in our bed and the bathroom sink, it wasn't dirty at all, but it could do with a deep clean. Also in my opinion the annex really needs WiFi option, as when you are travelling it's quite important for getting travel information and information about areas you are visiting and having to go back to the main hotel wasn't so convenient.
Hotel Ichibata - Matsue - Building
13
7.8 Good (1,279 reviews)
Overview Reviews

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Beautifully situated at lake.
Cons: Level of English could be better. But: they do have a tablet with voice translation: very great help!
7.1 Good
Pros: Hotel was located well, looked ok from the outside. yet would not recommend it as the rooms are smelly. in 2019 you would expect more from a hotel.
Cons: Very disappointed that the hotel room was smoking room. It seems as though all the japanese rooms are smoking rooms - this was not stated on the reservation. the room smell very bad we could not not breath in it. When asked to change was told the hotel was booked out and in any case all rooms are smoking rooms. In 2019 you do not expect these things to happen not even in Japan!!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We were greeted in a very professional manner. Everything was lovely. The staff was excellent. The onsen was wonderful. We would definitely return.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast. Excellent location near the old part of Matsue.
Cons: Nothing special.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Spacious tatami room, great lake view, nice outdoor hot spring pool on rooftop. Breakfast buffet has a wide rang of in-house cooked Japanese dishes, including a pizza with the local clams. One-minute walk to the Ichibata Railway station that will take you to Izumo.
Cons: Nothing.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Good views of the river, close to the castle, excellent staff, excellent breakfast, good wifi, large Japanese-style room.
Cons: All good really.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very spacious room with lake view and good onsen. Many choices of food for breakfast which is delicious and opens till 10am. Staff are friendly and polite. Free parking is a bonus.
Cons: There seems no shop and restaurant nearby and may not be convenient if not driving a car. Pyjama in blue colour is ugly.

Matsue Urban Hotel - Matsue - Bedroom

7.7 Good (1,394 reviews)

With a stay at Matsue Urban Hotel in Matsue, you'll be a 2-minute drive from Matsue Castle and 9 minutes from Tamatsukuri Hot Spring. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk, luggage storage, and laundry facilities. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The shower facilities are excellent for such a cheap place to stay.
Cons: Needing to remove all personal items from the capsule and put them in the locker each day is a little frustrating. I don't feel as though the capsule needs to be cleaned each day.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: A few points: The staff is extremely polite and friendly. The variety of breakfast food was surprisingly large for a budget hotel, and there was plenty of it. Free wi-fi! It’s a minute’s walk from the train station, bus terminal, tourist info center, and numerous shops and restaurants.
Cons: The room was tiny, but that was to be expected. No real complaints.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The location was pretty convenient, 2min from the train station. The capsule was brand new, and you could find anything you could need in the bathroom (razors, combs, earplugs...). The breakfast was really good too. I had to change my plans and leave one day earlier than expected, and they were nice enough to refund me the money for the last night.
7.1 Good
Pros: Free bike rental - excellent perk; staff were friendly; location just 10 minutes after taking a right from the station. Matsue itself is a lovely place - an unexpected and very pleasant surprise...
Cons: Tiny bathroom - uncomfortable having a shower, especially when the shower curtain inevitably sticks to you (eeeww!); I found at least 2-3 hairs in my room after checking in (I wish people would check these things); I didn't request the room to be made up (green), but was surprised when Housekeeping didn't even make the bed after having been in the room nor did they replenish the 1 tea bag; room window was the tiniest I've ever seen in a hotel room; not enough hangers to hang clothes...
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Free bycycle rental. Open dining room. Very near to railway station. A clerk at the front desk can speak Chinese.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very communicative and the facilities were excellent. Both buildings have elevators, although the one leading to the reception is located slightly past the entrance, inside the parking on the ground level. They give you free lounge wear which is very comfortable, and provide basic shower necessities/toiletries, among other extra free things. The bed was very comfortable, and has a small safe attached. They also provide you with a locker and a place to store larger suitcases, with a lock to secure them. I would definitely stay with them again. A note: when I stayed with them, the capsule hotel bedrooms were closed from 10am - 3pm due to cleaning, so keep that in mind.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Super clean, super easy.
Cons: I wish there was air conditioning in the cubes. Or at least a better fan.
Overview Reviews
Located in Matsue (Matsue Shinjiko Onsen), Yukeikohan Suitenkaku is within a 5-minute drive of Lake Shinji and Matsue Castle. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby and luggage storage. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Huge room, nice views. Great onsen baths.
7.5 Good
Pros: I really liked the onsen here. And I wanted the r perience of staying in a traditional Japanese ryokan and this place delivered on that score. Inexpensively. Staff very friendly and helpful and though not much English was spoken, everyone made sure my questions were answered and I was well looked after. Hotel is easily reached by bus from main JR station in Matsue. Japanese breakfast was extensive. I prefer western breakfast, got to admit, but was also glad for this experience. Loved the Yakata provided for use while a guest.
Cons: The place had definitely seen better days and is a bit shabby. But I actually liked that ambience. Very genuine. And it was clean. New carpets in hallways would improve the look of the place.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Typical Japanese Ryokan. Very confortable and spacious room.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Quiet room overlooking the lake even with a road between us and the lake very comfortable and relaxing. Not totally rigid about check in time.
Cons: None
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I was totally wowed when I first came into the room. It was far higher class than what I was expecting. I had an enormous amount of space for £42 a night, with my own fully equipped Japanese bathtub and shower. The furniture supplied was excellent and the view of the lake was exceptional. Cannot recommend enough!
Cons: Nothing, it was perfect.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great ocean view and spacious room. A few minutes walk from tram station A regular morning breakfast for 1500 yen Open air and indoor bath Close to bus stop in front of the lake Walking distance to 7-11 and nearby restaurants Many sizes of yukata inside room’s cabinet Separate room for toilet and shower Beautiful hallway decorations Good price for what you get
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is definitely recommended. I didn't really realize when I booked it, but there is a free onsen in the hotel, which was absolutely great. There is still a perfectly fine bathroom in every room as well. The rooms are Japanese style and look good. A nice detail is that there is warm tea waiting for you in the evening. From the lobby, you can see the beautiful lake. There is also a station nearby, as well as buses. Many of the sights in Matsue are at walkable distance too. The best thing was the staff. They were super friendly and helpful. Really loved staying here. One of the best experiences I have ever had in a hotel.

3.8 Mediocre
Pros: We stayed in the room with private bath. That was nice.
Cons: Common baths too small. Property too old. No dinner. Breakfast too basic. Overall too expensive for what it is.
7.9 Good
Pros: The room was spacious and really lovely!
Cons: We did not mind as we speak a bit Japanese, but staff can't speak any English.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was simple but delicious. The location was good and I had a room with lake view.
Cons: The staff didn't speak much English. Being a traditional ryokan, there's no lift and I had to lug my bulky suitcase up the stairs to my room. My 1/F room overlooks the lake but there's also a main road right outside so the speeding vehicles could be heard very clearly. On my last night there, there were also girls parking their bikes just beneath my window and sitting there and chatting at 11 pm. That was rather annoying as I could hear them clearly in the quiet of the night.
5.0 Okay
Cons: In 7 years of living and travelling in Japan, we have never had such a bad Japanese breakfast: two onigiri, plain cabbage salad, miso soup and a packaged pudding. No fish, no egg, no vegetable side dish, no warm rice. Even in the most humble minshuku you would be treated to some wholesome and enjoyable food. At least coffee was served in the lobby. The hotel has hardly any staff and minimizes food preparation. Very bad internet connection, only available in the hall. You have to move seats every time a visitor arrives to make place for them as they serve tea while checking in.
8.8 Excellent
Cons: Breakfast can be changed a bit different day by day ...
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Well balanced service, cleanliness, location, etc.
Cons: Breakfast was a bit too minimalist and lacked preparation with care.
7.5 Good
Pros: Good onsen and rotenburo. Traditional Japanese tatami rooms.
Cons: Breakfast was very basic. A bit far from the center of town.

6.7 Good
Pros: - great location near to sightseeing area; - room with lake view; - helpful staff; - good buffet breakfast
Cons: - hard to communicate in English; - too basic room facilities; - degree of cleanliness to be improved; - hotel need to be renewal in general.
6.7 Good
Pros: friendly and helpful staff.
Cons: wifi was very spotty, and I would have wished to be able to change the air in the room. but window was bolted shut, and airconditioner did not compensate.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We booked a Japanese style room catering 3 people. It’s bigger than what we expected. It was clean and tidy, with a view of the lake. There was a convenience store on the ground floor of the main building. You could buy some food and the staff would heat it up for you. Outside it was an area with tables and chairs where you could enjoy the food. The hot bath in the annex building was good.
Cons: The hairdryer was not strong enough and it took a lot of time to dry up our hair after the hot bath.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Location and views.
Cons: Very small bathroom, too small. No affordable restaurant near bye.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: It was convenient because I needed to be near the castle. Short walk to where I needed to go.
Cons: The room is smaller than what I’m used to, but it’s really not that big of a deal.
7.1 Good
Pros: the location, the view from my room, the friendly staff
Cons: a big bug in the room
7.1 Good
Pros: The view from the hotel's upper floors was very nice, especially the side facing Lake Shinji. The onsen facility is spacious and well-maintained. CVS downstairs.
Cons: Wifi only at the lobby with disappointed weak connection. Location-wise, it's a bit off the central district, nothing much nearby. You have to walk 400-500 meters to the closest decent restaurant area. However, it's very dark and quiet at night. The hotel provides shuttle service to the train station but up to 9:00 AM only when you can check out until 10:00 AM. During holidays, the surcharge might double the normal price.
