10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was absolutely stunning!
Cons: Beach transportation was a bit lacking.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The restaurant was closed (which was not mentioned) I was there with my girlfriend and we wanted a romantic early breakfast, instead we had a pool exercise class going on right in front of us . The instructor was yelling his instructions . Absolutely a “buzz kill”
Cons: Restaurant on site was closed. Which was not mentioned prior to booking. Had to do unnecessary traveling for diner. And a lot of grounds was closed due to maintenance.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely location great staff ; very spacious apartment
Cons: Breakfast could have started earlier given early morning tours
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Staff were very friendly and helpful. Apartments are large with good living/kitchen area. Pool was great. Views of the Pacific from the pool are stunning. Kids loved the self designed pancakes for breakfast.
Cons: The lift directly to the apartment opened unannounced a few times, with people in the lift. This was a little concerning regarding security.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Such a beautiful property I will definitely be back!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was excellent. Beautiful views from the pool. Lovely sunsets. Very spacious living space.
Cons: Private beach had no surf.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We got an enormous apartment. Spot clean, all the imaginable facilities and amenities in the apartment and in the hotel. We stayed for one night, but would be an exciting experience for several relaxing days. Very close to the Manuel Antonio national park.
Cons: Nothing.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The 3 bedroom appartement was beautifully designed and very confortable with 2 bathrooms, a terrace, 3 balconies, an equipped kitchen and nice living room. The service is great and beachtowels are easily provided. The pool is beautiful and the small beach wild. We enjoyed yoga classes on the yoga platform and unfortunately we missed the free cooking classes
Cons: The proposed activities through third parties on the website were a little disappointing, for example the catamaran for whale watching embarked almost 100 visitors.
7.0 Good
Pros: This was our second visit to this resort, and as usual, the staff is always attentive and friendly. Nature, staff and pool area and room size will always be the highlights.
Cons: I was very disappointed this time with several things that were extra points the first time: 1) master bedroom had a TERRIBLE humidity smell 2) master bedroom bathroom didn´t have a trash can 3) master bedroom shower had moss and black stains - cleaning is definitey not properly done 4) no extras in the fridge as before, we were looking to have some drinks at the apartment as we didnt have time to stop by 5) breakfast was still good but it was a big disappointment not to be told in advance when making the reservation that their restaurant was out of service, it was an inconvenient with a baby to go out and look for a place to have dinner and lunch 6) in the main level, the area to the right, nearby the elevator, smelled terrible, not sure if it was the bathroom area, but I just couldn´t stand the smell when I had to go upstairs
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location. Excellent Breakfast. Huge apartment layout. Elevator opens into your suite.
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Makanda by the Sea in Manuel Antonio, you'll be on the waterfront, within a 15-minute walk of Playitas Beach and Biesanz Beach. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, luggage storage, and laundry facilities. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours), and free self parking is available onsite.
6.0 Good
Pros: Makanda hotel is beautiful. It looks like an art piece in the middle of a beautiful jungle with some amazing wildlife around it. The breakfast is really good, the Eggs Benedict dish was amazingly good! Dinner was also pretty good, although over-priced IMO. Leo from the front desk is SUPER! Funny and pleasant with a really good attitude. Javier and Johnathan, the bell boys, will give you a great service as well. The sound system in the room is very nice!
Cons: Unfortunately, with the beautiful design, comes a lack of practicality, and lots of it... The hotel is built on hilly area with crazy slopes and very slippery roads. So to get in/out of our room, you almost always have to call a golf car. During rain, there is no chance you could do it without it (and it rains every evening). The driver will tell you that you can always use the service, but in fact, it is available only on a certain time period, and after a few times we really felt uncomfortable to order it. Keep in mind that the way to some of the rooms is extremely dark at night and you could easily stumble. The room has a shower, but without a door, so whenever you take a shower, be prepared to make the whole bathroom floor wet. The room has electrical curtains, but they won't close fully due to their length, and there is no way to avoid the sun in the morning because the curtains are translucent. The room service was a bit incompetent. When I called to get two robes, it felt like it was too much to ask because, apparently, only the spa has robes (that had oily smell stick to them). The spa area supposedly has the most beautiful view in the hotel, but you will have access to it and its facilities only if you make a reservation for a rediculous expensive treatment. To use the "natural" sauna, you'll have to make a reservation 5 hours in advance because they have to burn woods for you to use it. The hotel has wifi around the property, but in almost every location the wifi strength was low. The room TV is old and without any smart TV capabilities. Generally, we had a good experience, but we feel that we paid for a luxurious hotel, while getting an average hotel experience.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was amazing, staff was very good in every situation. We felt very relaxed
Cons: Drinks not cheap but expected
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful views. The pool was amazing. Everyone was very helpful and pleasant. There were many great restaurants nearby. The marina was great for food
10.0 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The service and the facility were excellent

Cons: Door was hard to lock, close, etc

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Surrounded by nature monkeys sloths macaws etc right outside your room...... incredible views from restaurant great pools and attentive staff and owner.
Cons: Food is a bit hit and miss but owner was happy to replace or exchange or not charge for anything we didn't think was perfect. To be fair though you are not there for the food...... it's the natural beauty that's the focus.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Gaia is located on a hill with incredible views from the bar/ restaurant. Highly recommend watching the sunset from the restaurant. It was amazing! Also, the private reserve is incredible. We did the free tour run by Juan and it was honestly better than any of the paid tours we did in the national parks. The story behind the reserve and the owner Boris, who very kindly greeted us, is also very inspiring. Couldn’t recommend it more. Last but not least, the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful and made us feel so welcome. Sirit and Nancy at reception are the best. They made our stay so comfortable by sorting out all our requests/ questions and even had a little package of food ready for us when we left to drive to our next destination. The buggy staff were also so helpful taking us around the property and providing towels when we went to the beach. An added bonus is the free shuttle to Manuel Antonio.
Cons: There was some machinery like a generator running near the room at night so it was a bit noisy. Would be nice to have a kettle in the room as the room had tea bags but no hot water for the tea.
7.5 Good
Pros: The pools are really nice and the shuttle service is very good if you do not have a car but only runs till late afternoon. Rooms are nice but there is a bit of wear and tear. Good hotel but not 5 star.
Cons: Breakfast could be better.
7.5 Good
Pros: Very quaint luxurious accommodation and the best restaurant in town!!!

Pros: Everything was and is awesome. We extended our stay twice up to 10nights. The breakfast (continental) is awesome and it's just a 2minutes walk to the national park and beach. There is also a privat parking avaiable outside the resort. From time to time you can also see animals in and around the resort.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great staff helped me get my phone back that I left in a shuttle. Loved the landscaping, good breakfast, quiet room. The staff also helped me get a great tour guide for the national park. Would not have saw anything without him. Beach is just a 5 min walk at most.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent staff who was very helpful. Perfect location! Would stay again
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The rooms are large, the breakfast is very good (even a great granola muesli) and the people are very nice and helpful. You don't need to move your car if you visit the park or the nearby beach.
6.3 Good
Cons: Shower
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Close proximity to entrance of National Park Manuel Antonio (2 Minutes walking distance). Very friendly and competent staff. Quiet location.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is in a quiet side street. There is a lot of space in the room. Stuff is very friendly.
Cons: There is only Lunch available at the hotel. You cannot get any food or drink in the hotel after 9.30am. As a solo traveling woman this might be a little challenging. I went to the hotel before it got dark outside every evening. Since there is no bar, no common space where people meet/sit, I stayed in the hotel room after 5pm. Which on one hand is not too bed, because I went to sleep at 7pm and got aaalll the rest I didn‘t in the last weeks. But on the other hand I couldn‘t get a tea or water in the evening. However, there are bars and restaurants close by!!

Pros: Great views, many pools and good food. Having the private beach was a huge deal!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The resort staff went above and beyond to make sure that the communication was excellent. They assigned a personal concierge who was available 24 hours of the day. We texted spontaneously in order to make sure that my needs were met. I would definitely stay there again!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in one of the one bedroom villa, it had views to the ocean which we enjoyed from the amazing terrace, a big spacious kitchen and bedroom and a perfectly equipped toilet with a big shower. The hotel has several pools and restaurants and a private beach. It is located on a hill so there are always cars available to drive you if you dont wanna walk the hill up. No meals are included, we could order easily delivery to our room or just to go to one of the restaurants. There is a coffee maker and basic equipment for the kitchen if you want to cook something. We had a person who helped us with everything during our stay, we communicated via whatsapp or sms and she booked restaurants/tours/laundry. Really smooth and nice.

Cons: Everything was great.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Luis-he was the best. Pretty much all staff was friendly. Breakfast was good. Good location to walk to restaurants but be very careful as there is not a sidewalk everywhere and cars zip around the hilly/windy road.
Cons: We were very concerned when our cab pulled up in front as it looked like a tire shop, not a hotel. Once we got inside it was very nice. The grounds were beautiful

7.5 Good
Cons: noise from the rec room at 5 ;30 am
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The lush landscaping made you feel like you were in the middle of a tropical rainforest. Rooms, common spaces, and pools were all very clean and staff were always busy making sure the property stayed clean. Food was excellent including the free breakfast buffet. The biggest asset is the staff; everyone was EXCEPTIONAL! Nicole at reception was very pleasant and by far the most attentive to our needs out of any hotel experience I’ve had by far. Our family decided to take a last minute overnight trip to Fortuna/ Arenal and Nicole called the next day to check in as the housekeeping staff were concerned our room Was untouched and we hadn’t been seen around the property. That level of commitment to guest safety and satisfaction is truly rare and was much appreciated.
Cons: Airport shuttle would be a plus but not a deal breaker.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hotel!! Kind staff!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The service was excellent!!!
Cons: The elevator was scary so i walked up the stairs.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very helpful staff, huge rooms, gorgeous pool and lounging area. Breakfast was delicious. Only thing I would note for people here for their first time is that the pool lounge chairs are shaded by 3:30.
7.1 Good
Pros: Great location close to the Manuel Antonio National Park
Cons: Weak internet, strange decoration, relatively expensive for what it offers.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was awesome and the place is great. We arrived a little late, almost 9pm and really wanted to raft the next morning but couldn't get a reservation the day before. The front desk, I think his name was Ramon, went above and beyond for us by calling his friends and getting us into a great rafting tour last minute. He set up for them to pick us up and drop us off at Mango Moon. The hotel's location is perfect and centered to everything is Manual Antonio. You are surrounded by trees and animals (we saw lizards all over our balcony but none inside our room thankfully) so if you aren't up for that then this is not the place for you but if you want the full Costarican experience you'll love Mango Moon. We were woken up by howler monkeys at 5am which was scary and great at the same time. Mango Moon is a great little B&B with a great view from our room.
Cons: The only thing I would suggest is to get new bedsheets and covers. Our bed cover had a couple holes and the white sheets were not that "white" with a couple of old stains that I'm sure washing doesn't get out anymore. Also the bathroom in our room was not the most up to date but the water pressure was awesome!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We spent 3 nights at Mango Moon and had a great time. It is a great hotel with a beautiful sea view. We actually saw more animals there then in the park itself and we had the chance to welcome the squirrel monkeys for breakfast, what a luxury :)
Cons: Nothing
7.1 Good
Pros: - location pretty close to the park and beach - view from balcony and pool - great breakfast place closeby - hotel restaurant and bar very good - we saw 2 tucans and a lot of white face monkeys at the hotel
Cons: - room with shared balcony ( in booking it is not stated that the balcony is shared) - curtains don't block light (our neighbours left the light on outside at night and went out. We couldn't sleep because it shined through our window. There was no way for us or the staff to shut off the light) - you hear pretty much everything that is happening in the other rooms
5.1 Okay
Pros: Gentleman staffing the hotel on 3/10/17 was very helpful and we appreciated his attentiveness. Hotel has great view of ocean.
Cons: not a great experience and most of staff/management not helpful. Will not stay there again
7.1 Good
Pros: The personal attitude, very helpful
Cons: Small breakfast and standard amenities
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Ramón was so helpful and friendly! We really appreciated his knowledge of the area and sharing great tips with us for making the best of our time while visiting the area.
Cons: We liked everything.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We liked the location and the sea view is amazing . The staff were friendly and helpful. We had dinner one day and the mahi mahi is delicious.
Cons: Our room 9 didn’t have a sea view and could be a little noisy

Gracias guys, it was incredibly with you!!!!!❤️
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The view from the hotel to the sea was just beautiful, also the sunset and the sunrise gave an even better experience from the view, and mostly the silence that was enjoyed at night made the visit more pleasant,
Cons: The fact that the room was promoted without mentioning that it was shared could've helped a bit, the guests we were sharing the room with at least were quiet and not noticeable but it would be nice to announce that the room will be shared with someone else.
6.7 Good
Pros: AC was working well. The view is great - we could see some tucans and parrots early morning. Hammocks are great for chilling if the weather is not nice. Shared kitchen and tasty restaurant just next to the hostel (they can bring your food even to the hostel). Not far from the bus stop to Manuel Antonio park, restaurants and supermarkets.
Cons: Dorm is very small so it is challenging to fit all people with backpacks in. Hammocks in the terrace area were a bit smelly - I recommend to wash them from time.to time.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I was very surprised at how enjoyable our stay at Hostel Vista Serena. At such an affordable price point, I didn’t expect to wake up to such an incredible view each morning. The air conditioning worked great and we even had two kitchens to choose from. The staff was super friendly. Also, getting to the park via local bus was extremely easy.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful view, many birds flying by.
Cons: Not sparkling clean. Noisy and small bunk beds.
3.8 Mediocre
Cons: A lot of bugs in the rooms and beds The beds are very uncomfortable The rooms are tiny
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Good wifi, friendly staff and nice view to enjoy sunrise/sunset from the terrace
Cons: Still walking distance tho it can be a bit inconvenient to walk to the main tourist spots due to its middle of nowhere location. But it was not a big issue for us.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: It was very affordable and overall clean. The guys working there were also very polite and ready to help. We haven't experienced these amazing sunsets, since we were there during the wet season. The area is very steep, so it is a bit challenging walking to other places, but overall it was nicely positioned. It was also regularly cleaned.
Cons: Unfortunately the restaurant was closed, which wasn't marked anywhere on their page. We needed to find some other place to have breakfast and coffee, which was kind of a hassle, because the first thing you need to do when you wake up, is get in the car. The beds were also somewhat uncomfortable.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Absolute stunning view of the ocean.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Its a beautiful location. The bed was very comfortable with an excellent view of the ocean. We enjoyed the adult only pool. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was really good, with a great variety of choices. We loved eating outdoors & found the monkeys were very entertaining. Having a beach shuttle is great. We thought it went to Quepos though - didn't realize it went toward Manuel Antonio.
Cons: I booked this property because of your accompanying wildlife refuge. So, I was disappointed when I discovered only the butterfly habitat was free for guests and we had to pay to visit the rest of the refuge. Regarding our room, we would each have liked a bedside table and lamp. We think a keyless entry card would be better than fiddling with a key. Caution guests about the monkeys stealing food from unattended plates!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Exceptionally clean rooms and nice staff. Amazing view from the bedroom balcony, and good adults only pool facility.
Cons: The food at both onsite restaurants was average, would expect better.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful setting, great facilities and staff
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Attention
Cons: Staff was excellent, how ever they were trying so hard to be goos that they missed some things. For example, during breakfast I had to ask for coffee more than 3times until the guy actually brought me coffee. Every time I asked, he started a nice conversation about "where was I from, what were the plans for the day, etc" which was nice, but that made him forget why we started talking ( the coffee), so I had to ask him again and gain. During raining season, raincoats would be desirable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was great. The staff is very friendly and always up to help you and guide you. Bed was very comfortable, the view was amazing and the food was really good. 10/10 for me.
6.2 Good

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was amazing!!! The rooms, the food, the view everything! We stayed for 3 nights I wish we'd stayed longer, not only did we have an amazing room etc but when we we're lying around the pool there were monkeys an array of birds and a sloth! It was just amazing would recommend this hotel to anyone.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Issimo is a lovely boutique hotel. Guests are greeted with a complimentary cocktail and refreshing cold face towel. The staff is attentive and professional. All the large rooms have a spa tub and great views. The complimentary breakfast with fresh fruit, eggs, cheese coffee is great. We dined both nights in the open air restaurant with ocean views; the food was beautifully presented & delicious. The outdoor pool and deck have ocean views and the spa massage was wonderful. We booked a rafting trip with the concierge and were very pleased. Issimo Suites is owned by a charming Italian family; the menu & attention to detail reflect their desire to pamper guests. I would highly recommend it.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything about this hotel exceeded my expectations. The photos online don't really do it justice, you must be present to get the full experience. We were greeted with drinks and cold towels, walked in to a room with a view of the water and garden area - I felt like I was outside but protected by a window. The shower and inroom spa tub was amazing to use while looking out the window that spanned an entire wall. The food was amazing everyday and the staff, I can't say enough good things about the staff. They were kind, attentive, and helpful. We took a chance and didn't book any activities until we got there, totally out of our norm, however, every single tour (3) the hotel booked for us also exceeded our expectations. If you're in the MA area, stay here!!!!
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Small personal attention was great. Very clean throughout.
4.2 Okay
Pros: View and location
Cons: Most everything, old hotel, ants all over the place, including our bed. Insanely over priced coffee in the room ($33 for four capsules of coffee...) And on. Really, unless you have no other choice...
10.0 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: We got an upgrade to the penthouse that included jacuzzi and amazing views. Everything was great.
Cons: Restaurant food was good but quite pricey maybe.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The view of the ocean
Cons: Terrible room service. Was given wrong room and had to ask to be changed to my proper room (penthouse suite). Laundry service extremely expensive. Same song playing in restaurant for 45 minutes.. twice. Had to actually ask staff to pay attention and change it. Food wasn't special, just food. Couldn't get any ice because they don't have much... it's wasn't enjoyable.
10.0 Excellent

Cons: Breakfast
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic and helpful staff. They go out of their way to assist you, greet you and make you feel welcome during your entire stay. Wonderful restaurant at the edge of the rain forest.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The property is beautiful, lush & elegant and the staff was so accommodating and friendly!
Cons: We stayed in Room 120, the 3 bedroom suite with a personal infinity pool. The suite was HUGE and beautiful, but it’s right under the kitchen. Every morning between 5:30-6am we were woken up by the kitchen staff dropping things and banging pots and pans while they were getting ready for the day. Instead of being able to sleep in and relax, it’s a jarring way to wake up.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly, accommodating staff, location is amazing! We loved the convenience of the resort and the layout. Beach was in a hidden little cove with a beautiful sand & rock beach.
Cons: Food was pricey and OK
2.8 Mediocre
Cons: The wifi was constantly failing. Prices for the spa and bar were outrageous. Broken elevators. RAYBAN POLARIZED SUNGLASSES WERE STOLEN FROM OUR ROOM!!!!!! Manager was in disbelieve, not returning calls, we spend the rest of our trip trying to get in contact/ waiting for a resolution or at least a call back and they never did!!! Now we call from The states and the "manager" won't come to the phone, very unpleasant staff stated that they are not able to give guests more information about management. Sadly our sunglasses were stolen and nothing was ever done about it. A lot of better options around the area for a lower price.
