B&B Le Violette

The property was in a great location for us. Inside the walls yet an easy walking distance to the train station. Lots of great places to visit nearby. The room and the external private bathroom were clean. The bathroom was updated and very nice. We did not add the breakfast (5 euros pp) to our reservation so I can't comment on that, but there were snacks and coffee available for guests. We dealt with staff at a separate B&B via phone. They were responsive and actually invited us to have breakfast there on the last morning, which was not expected but appreciated.

My impression of a B&B is that there is someone, often an owner, onsite. Usually you get a very personal touch. During our entire visit we saw nobody at the property. Check-in was by text and email. Although responses to questions via text /email were relatively quick, it is not the same as having someone in front of you. The rooms were cheaply furnished and the bed was not very comfortable. The private external bath was very nice but it was 15 feet away, down a shared hallway. Not very convenient. The street just outside the front door of the building was torn up for work on the water pipes coming into the building. It was sometimes awkward to get into the building and a couple of times the water was shut off. This is beyond the control of the B&B, but still an irritant for us.

We loved staying at le Violette. The B&B is right in the old centre of Lucca which made it very easy to walk around and have a couple glasses of wine knowing we did not have to drive back! Claudio was great, very hospitable and very prompt to help in any way.

The only thing we did not like was the noise at night but after we closed the windows we were OK ! It was also Friday night in August so I guess this does not happen in other seasons or during the week!
