The location of the property is very convenient and street is relatively quiet given the proximity to the main roads and heavy traffic. There are lots of shops, supermarkets and cafes in the neighbourhood so plenty of options to be had. The room was small but perfectly habitable and I had a really nice roommate. Not sure why there was a table on top of my wardrobe though. And a bucket on top of it. The bed-sheets were clean and ironed (!) which was a nice thing to have. The showers were really good!
*Reception*: I was refused check-in at 23:00 hrs as I didn't have my British passport with me. Clearly, there are some bizarre rules in place and the Reception staff are just following them. For your convenience (and for the information of the Reception staff) here is the link to the Immigration (Hotel Records) Order 1972: https://www.visitbritain.org/business-advice/registration-and-data-protection. Eventually, I was allowed in but I had to argue about it for 15 minutes. *Room*: the rooms are cleaned once a week and it shows. We tried to maintain it in good shape but the dust from the street just makes the floors awfully dirty. The mattress had the most disgusting stains so I had to buy an extra sheet to put it on top of the existing sheet. The duvet is the cheapest polyester item (I got rid of it the first night). The sink was blocked (I forgot to mention it to the Reception). The bed-sheets for permanent residents are changes once every two weeks which is certainly not enough, especially in the summer, so they have a stale smell of sweat and all sorts. *Facilities*: the toilets do not have any cleaning products in them so the inhabitants are relying on the efforts of a cleaner once a day. For the number of people that's just not enough and people should really clean after themselves. Also every time I checked, there was a poo in the toilet bowl: people just don't bother to flash! No idea why... *Courtesy*: it was really puzzling to me why the grown up men walk around in their underwear and nothing else on. There are young girls staying in the hostel (mostly of them long-term) so this was really unwelcome and disturbing to see.
Not having a towel
Staff were not overly pleasant. Breakfast wasn't worth getting up for.
Remarkable value and location, just a few minutes walk from Notting Hill Gate tube and plenty of bars and restaurants. The room was fine and the bed surprisingly comfortable. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. What more can you ask for? I will definitely stay again.
The hostel was reasonably cheap and well located. That is about all that was good about it.
Hair on my bedding- not convinced it was changed. No towels to borrow (even if paid) - had to buy one from a local shop. Breakfast was atrocious. I was welcomed with dry bread, butter and boiled eggs. No ham, cheese, beans or anything else you would expect. When, in my despair, I took 4 eggs to satisfy my hunger even a little I was told that I had to put them back as they operate a strict one boiled egg policy per person! I had to leave and get breakfast elsewhere. So beware that the breakfast is not really a breakfast. The showers and toilets were located at the very opposite side of the building where our room was, which meant a trek every time you needed the loo.
