Ambience, food, wonderful staff, birdlife, the setting.
Fifth time back! Staff are as genuine and helpful as before!
We have stayed at Bon Ton before and remember it fondly. Now it seems to cater mainly for families with children which make the small pool area unusable, especially if you are a couple. On the first day we were woken by a very noisy family who used the nearby pool as if it was there own and when they had finished just left it with all their inflatable debris and flip flops floating in it for whoever came next to clear. I had to ask the family myself to clear the pool which is not what I expected to have to do in a boutique resort. I think if this is their business model for the future they should build a bigger pool and advertise that they are frequented by families which I think is a problem in a very small boutique resort. Also, I would recommend a dedicated pool attendant to police and mitigate the impact of selfish travellers and indeed clean the pool of inflatable toys and whatever else. The rooms have not changed much since we visited ten years ago. I think they could offer more to compensate for what are quite uncomfortable hot rooms. Such as nicer toiletries and towels. A good coffee machine and new fridges. Door locks that don’t need two hands and a knee to operate and don’t slice your fingers open. Reduction of trip hazards one of which split my toe. I understand they are trying to create a less corporate experience but once the peace was shattered by families who had no radar or regard for others all the discomforts that I had not seen the first time were highlighted. Also I think the “make your own breakfast in your room system” they have (basically toast and cake) is just stinginess masquerading as charm. I don’t think it would take much to provide a sit down/ or buffet breakfast in such a small place. Attentive and properly attired staff would be an improvement also. Basically Bon Ton was my absolute favourite hotel in the world which I told everyone about, until this trip. We will not be returning. (The cats were great though. A real highlight)
Breakfast is adequate. Cereal is not part of the supplied breakfast but I requested corn flakes, and it was provided. Our visit in February to Bon Ton was or sixth visit so obviously we enjoy visiting and staying in the Wooden Villas. The restaurant is excellent and the bar makes a great Mojito.
There is nothing we do not like about Bon Ton. Except, maybe, the breakfast offering of yoghurt. It is not a yoghurt and I think that should be replaced with the real thing.
I loved this place. Never wanted to leave. Especially the bathroom. Sitting in the bathtub watching squirrels and birds. The little house was so warming and beautifully and the garden was charming
There was some noise coming from a squirrel in the room, stealing our breakfast. But I think that's also part of the charm. The mosk was very noisy middle in the night
