Don Miguel is a great host, they went above and beyond of our expectations.
Right in the jungle (saw a family of toucans one morning). Peaceful apart from nature! Close (ish) walk to la fortuna waterfall. Miguel organised and took us to Baldi springs. Breakfast included if booked through booking with breakfast, otherwise $5. Buses run into town everyday except Sunday. Miguel very friendly and helpful. Room cleaned daily. Also effort to recycle - really good. Didn’t use the pool as mostly rainy when we were there.
Out of town so not ideal without a car but can get buses or taxi for 2k colones so we managed fine. Wifi doesn’t reach rooms, just one hut/shelter where WiFi is. Fine except lots of bugs/mosquitos. No communal area or kitchen so if you’re stuck there in the rain you’re in your room.
Cerro Chato Ecolodge is about half way between the town of La Fortuna and the waterfall of Catarata La Fortuna. Both are about a 45 minute walk away. The ecolodge consists of about 12 small cabins and each of them is fine but nothing special. The room is a bit small and the bathroom was basic. There is wifi at a central pavilion and it was difficult to connect with it from our cabin. The breakfast is good, although you must eat between 7-8am, which is a bit more restrictive than most places. The grounds of the ecolodge are quite green and beautiful but mosquitoes were definitely a problem (although not the fault of the ecolodge).
The price at check-in was a good deal higher than we were told on booking.com. I believe this is a function of local taxes, but it was still a bit of sticker shock.
Nice breakfast. Personel was very helpful with advises and reserving tours or transportation. The cabins were nice.
It is out of town, so without a car the location is not too good, altough there is a bus during daytime. Limited WiFi in the cabins.
The staff was really amazing and superfriendly. The breakfest was excellent and we really love the animallife around the lodge. From the poolarea we see monkys, hummingbirds and other animals. We also like the pool.
You need to take local bus or taxi to the town but the transportation was smooth. The lodge does not have the latest standard but offers what you need.
