10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast in the room was excellent, not too much, not heavy. We had a room with private bath and in-room diding, you cannot beat that: Japanise style room. A very stylish hotel ryokan, one of the best we have ever seen, and we have seen many.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Amazing meals. This is a high end luxury boutique ryokan (?26 rooms)with Kaiseki dinners and breakfasts- the best of Japanese haute cuisine. The staff were absolutely charming and helpful. The rooms are enormous with a personal outdoor spa each! Very comfy beds and a very powerful massage chair in every room. Communal onsens are lovely too with outdoor rooftop views of the (frozen) lake and mountains. We would definitely recommend to anyone going to Eastern Hokkaido.
Cons: The rest of lake Akan onsen resort is a bit of a let down. The other hotels there are drab big anonymous affairs and not that attractive to look at! All the shops sell the same things. This amazing ryokan does come at a cost for half board (the only option) but it is a truly memorable experience. There is an all inclusive bar in the hotel but it doesn’t open till 9pm...we were too jet lagged to make the most of it!
9.2 Excellent

Cons: Food could have been more 'special'
9.6 Excellent

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Lake Akan is gorgeous Try to make the Kamuy lake show
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Has some shopping in the hotel and the onsen has a lot of choices
7.1 Good
Pros: The buffet provided a range of gourmet choices. Wide range of sashimi, traditional Japanese, western and Chinese food. The public bath on B1 is has multiple bath design, both indoor and outdoor. We also enjoyed private family bath area which had a Sauna room.
Cons: The room was small, comparing to our previous experience with Japanese ryokan. We were also waken up by doorbell ringing twice at around 2am which was unpleasant.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The best buffet dinner you could hope for in terms of both quality and quantity. Also the best outdoor on-sen bath with a spectacular lake view. Not to be missed.
Cons: We were fortunate to be given a corner room in the main building with a great view but otherwise would have been looking at the street. Worthwhile paying the extra for a room in the annex.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Buffet meals were delicious! The lake view is really nice. The staff were extremely courteous and nice. Our tatami room was in the Rera Wing, which had a nice foot hot spring. The rooms had everything we needed.
Cons: We noticed the female public bathrooms ran out of hand soap constantly.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location. Fantastic buffet dinner and breakfast. Normally I don’t like buffet style dinners, but this was extremely good. Very well presented, good quality and a lot of variety: Japanese, Chinese, European section. Hotel is in nice town with lot of (tourist) shops, along the lake. Hotel has really good onsen, outside in garden, also onsen on rooftop outside.
Cons: None
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Food
7.9 Good
Pros: Onsen facility at the roof floor is amazing, definitely worth a try.
Cons: The decoration and setting in the room are definitely old, though the outlook of the room is refurbished, this doesn't change what it is, an 80s Onsen hotel of Japan.
8.3 Excellent
Cons: From the rooftop pool one cannot see the lake, since the glass-like fence was too dirty and not transparent any more. Bad smell inside the cold room inside the spa.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff, clean. Wide range of non Japanese and Japanese food for buffet breakfast/dinner.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nice stuff. Good location.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This is a nice hotel in a beautiful location. It's right on the lake, and the entire town is in walking distance.
Cons: The times when the restaurant is actually open are quite restrictive, 6 to 830 for dinner (and leave by 9pm) and 630 to 9 for breakfast. We would have loved a lake-view room but the town view was fine.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great view of Lake Akan from room. Very delicious food. Great view from onsen !! Nice walk from hotel to lakeside.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Onsen and location of the hotel is good. Hotel facilities is great. there are shops under the hotel with free potato to taste, and also free live music. There are plenty of food at dinner and breakfast buffet.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Check it was fast, friendly and efficient by Ms Lui Peiqi. Name tags shd add name written in English. The ferry to lake akan tour was just next door.
Cons: The buffet dinner was too pricey. Shd have ala carte dinner options for diners who do not like buffet.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is amazing, the lake view from the room is absolutely stunning and the room itself is beautiful and welcoming. The staff were extremely helpful, friendly and nice (with very good English), they had a lot of information about the activities around the lake, and you can buy tickets at the front desk (for example for the Ainu theater), the hotel is in a great location really close to the pier for the lake cruise, and the Ainu kotan, a Lawson is in front of the hotel. The onsen bath was great, and in general the hotel was very clean. As for the food, I'm drooling just by reminiscing about it, both the dinner and breakfast buffet were superb, top quality food with huge selection, Japanese and western.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Picturesque location. Excellent onsen either in Wings or sister hotel next door. Great dinner buffet. Lovely staff all with a ready smile. Lake view room was spacious & very comfy. Really liked the decor, sculptures & artwork throughout the hotel. Valet parking was helpful. Stylish & interesting place to stay.
Cons: Small bathroom but onsen was so good we bathed & showered there.

Pros: It is near to MOO. The staff was kind and good at English. Guest can drink wine and eat curry rice at lounge bar. The Japanese style breakfast was really great! It was very delicious. and the most impressive dish on this trip.
Cons: Nothing!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was great! Choose between a Japanese and Western set, on top of the small buffet of items to complement your breakfast. You can also choose from 10 different pillows available at the front desk. My favourite was the buckwheat husk pillow. Cross the river for a lot of food options.
Cons: Nothing to not like.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The restaurant breakfast was a different themed creation each morning, along with buffet items of choice. We were out and about, or we would have dined there for supper as well. What was brilliant is the Castle offers a comfy lounge area were beverages are served and guests can confab with each other. Most so-called hotels, resorts and onsens in this price-range and higher in Japan have no such facilities, except perhaps machines with sodas, juices and beer. The Kushiro Century Castle outdoes other establishments in the country with a free wine bar, a selection of modest-priced bottled beers, and, of course, teas and coffee are free. In the morning the lounge also serves those who take a lighter breakfast with a variety of breads. In the evening, though on a first come first serve basis, and in limited supply, the lounge serves a moderate bowl of unbelievable venison curry with rice. It's free, too! We are definitely going back!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The restaurant serves excellent and healthy breakfast
10.0 Excellent
Pros: choose your own shampoo, free drinks, very comfortable environment, clean, good breakfast but not excellent
Cons: nothing

9.6 Excellent
Pros: The complimentary tea, coffee and icecream in the lobby each day. Excellent breakfast. Very friendly staff
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location n easy parking. The free machine coffee throughout the day, nice DIY soft ice cream and the ramen supper. The bath salts Is something I enjoyed having.
Cons: The bathroom is a little small.
7.0 Good
Pros: This is one of the most generous hotels I have come across. They provide free-flow refreshments, soft serve ice cream and even ramen supper. There is a pillow bay on every floor where you can take additional pillows in various firmness levels as you like. Laundry machine is also complimentary, you just need to buy the detergent from the dispenser. Just be aware that it takes over 3 hours for the wash and dry cycle to complete. Very neat and clean throughout. Within the liveliest district so you can walk around for a large variety of F&B outlets. You can also walk to the Kushiro Washo market (about 20 mins) which we did after check-out because we had to wait for our laundry. Reception kindly kept our bags.
Cons: You have to pay for parking which is of a reasonable amount but then you have to walk across the street to the lot if the one next to the hotel is full (which only has space for 8 cars or so). I was very upset with the check-in process. There was a group of businessmen who were also checking-in and had no regard for queuing. Reception should acknowledge that I was waiting in line and asked the last man who waltzed in to wait his turn. The rowdiness of these men soured the experience of enjoying the common space. The room was quite small and the curtains were inadequate. There is no smoking room/area. Breakfast is so-so.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was the best hotel experience in Japan so far. The ladies at the reception are extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel is run to make you feel comfortable. There are bath salts, different pillows and many other goodies at your disposition, like umbrellas. I am going back to this hotel next time in Kushiro (and have a stay booked in Sapporo). It has a fair price and great location. It offers cheap car park which is a plus. The location is perfect too, it's a stroll to the harbour.
Cons: Nothing!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: A good place to stay for access to farmland to see Red-Crowned Cranes feeding.
Cons: A good place to stay for access to farmland to see Red-Crowned Cranes feeding.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was quite good. The area around the hotel was like a step back in time - nomiyayokochos are getting hard to find in Tokyo.
Cons: Met our expectations m.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: There was free coffee available, I don't drink it but my husband said it was nice. There was also free Ice cream on check-in, plus a free token for a drink from the machine. Oh, free Wi-Fi in your room. Amenities were good. There was a good breakfast selection too. Asked for an extra pillow each.
Cons: It was a bit expensive but I had trouble finding anything that was nice any cheaper when I booked. Later in the evening there was some big celebration on, so possibly why it was dearer . Not sure.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Nice free ice cream, comfy bed, good breakfast and good service.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: I get to used every time I’m in Kushiro I’ll stay here in WbF
Cons: I guess the parking lot

Pros: Hotel is modern and very standard for its category, nothing special. Location was nice, right in front of the JR Station. I called one day in advance to have my booking changed and they accommodated this without any problem.
Cons: The parking is at the parking tower which means jumping in and out of your car quickly is not an option. Once you deposited your car you will think 4 times before making the hassle of getting it back as the process takes a few minutes. I wanted to check in early but they couldn't accommodate for that (I doubt the hotel was full, it's a very rural area.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful view of the lake. Buffet dinner and breakfast with a huge choice of dishes. Colourful yukatas. Good offer of beauty products in the female Onsen (body scrub, face cleaning lotion, brushes, etc.)
Cons: Nothing
5.4 Okay
Pros: Great location just in front of akan lake cruise pier to view marimo and convenient for Kamuy Lumina night walk. Buffet breakfast and dinner were average, the steak at dinner was good. Love that our room was lake facing, the bay window is a nice part of the room to chill, watch cruises leave and return, sometimes spotting deers from the national park.
Cons: Older establishment compared to the other tsuruga hotels in akan. Expected toilet to be spacious but was the opposite, tiny compared to other budget hotels. Though average sized Asian, ended up showering at the onsen wash area, so much more comfortable. If driving, cars are parked at a nearby lot outside 7-11 and there is a hotel minibus which will send us there, convenient but sometimes have to wait about 10 - 15min for it. If weather permits, walking there may be faster than hotel transport.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Convenient location. Nice room with lakeview. Near shops and ferry port.
Cons: Had to take a shuttle to visit nicer onsen baths in other locations. The one on the premise is smaller and not as picturesque.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The view of room is awesome.
Cons: Dislike Breakfast & Dinner buffet.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Good view of Lake Akan. Eay to acces to the boat deck and nature trials.
Cons: First, I got assigned to a smoking room by default. Breakfast could be more selections.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The view from the room.
7.5 Good
Pros: Staff was very friendly and courteous although English limited. The hotel is in a good location, next to Lake Akan and the ferry pier.
Cons: Hotel rooms could deserve a severe modernization. The food buffet, though with a lot of choice, was presenting the same food over the 3 days we stayed here. Example: same spaghetti with clams and same deserts. Surely the chef must know other recipes. When items ran out in the buffet, it took some time to be replaced, and some items were not replaced at all, even more obvious in the second seating as from 19h30. Overall the price is pretty high for the quality of the establishment, although there was nothing specifically wrong with it. I guess it is the location surcharge.
4.2 Okay
Pros: The view out of the hotel room is perfect and the rooms are really nice.
Cons: They show all kinds of photos from pools and baths (onsen) which are not even on the hotel grounds but you have to take a free shuttle bus towards them. This makes everything quite difficult to get to. There is an Onsen on site but it as the worst I have seen with only 2 baths and a finish sauna. It was nice enough to relax in but I expected it to be way bigger. The food was simple and not that tasty, we had half board included. If would be great if someone could speak English or any other language at the property or at least try. Difficult to talk with staff.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Overlooked the ferry terminal. Great to see the ferries cruising the lake

6.7 Good
Pros: The breakfast wasn't included.
Cons: Sleeping on the floor.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice hotel for an affordable price in Akan. The staff is very nice and welcoming, the hotel facilities spacious and comfortable. The outdoor onsen on the 2nd floor is small but amazing and so relaxed, overlooking the lake.
Cons: The main onsen on the 5th floor was really too steamy and hot (I'm talking about the space itself not just the water) which made me run away for fresh air very quickly. Please open the windows!
5.4 Okay
Pros: Japanese style room with nice lake view, onsen was comfortable. Breakfast was not bad.
Cons: When asking the front desk guy to help on changing my taxi reservation time, he was acting like he’s super busy and not willing to help on making a short call. And he even said something like “see, the customer is coming...” Sounds like we foreigners are not customers! His manner offended me a lot.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: excellent location and good onsen
Cons: a little bit expensive
4.6 Okay
Pros: Good central location on the lake
Cons: Room was very tired and rundown, badly needing a makeover. Property is set up to serve big group tourists and not interested in individual travellers. No Wi-Fi in the room, only in the ground floor common areas, staff not at all caring about this
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Onsen and room with view on the lake, free drink and ice cream nice location
Cons: A little bit expensive
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The room I received was very big by Japanese hotel standards, and the view of the edge of the lake and forest was perfect. Staff were pleasant, breakfast buffet plentiful. In a town this small there are no bad locations.
Cons: Smokers!! It flows through the air ducts particularly in the bathroom. First thing in the morning and again after dinner the room begin to smell like an ashtray. Nothing the staff can do, it’s the building design and permissive smoking policies.
7.1 Good
Pros: The staffs were helpful and granted our request for a room change due to excessive smoke odour.
Cons: The rooms are quite dated and beds are a little small. Location is at the far end of the town center. The pricing when we stayed was a little higher than what we expected.

Cons: None
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing.
Cons: The room was way too small despite booking a 3-bedded room with them. Luggage space was definitely lacking and i was even asked to pay for a new blanket for being way too honest when my kid was unwell and his vomit slightly stained the blanket. After some haggling, i was made to pay for the washing/cleaning of the blanket with the laundry.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: All of the above
Cons: NA
8.8 Excellent

6.3 Good
Pros: Close to the railway station
Cons: Pretty basic hotel -beds really too small for 2 persons-noisy AC
5.4 Okay
Cons: the hotel is not good enough. when i get the key into the Room. The Room is very cold. Even put on the air condition. the hot heater can not make the room warm. when you stay in winter season and the temperature is bellow zero degree and the warm heater not work, so you can image how are my feeling. My wife complain for one hour. So I ask the hotel people to give me another heater to make the room warm. This is the first time i stay in this kind of hotel which the air condition not work efficient. So I will not stay this hotel again.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Near to the JR station and the bus station, very convenient location. Affordable price for the double room. Taxi calling service is provided. The public bath place is also nice.
7.9 Good
Pros: Lovely restaurant for both breakfast (traditional Japanese with a wide variety of options - all beautifully presented) and dinner. The position was perfect for the bus trips we made each day, and very close to the railway station (with easy access for luggage), and for walking to the port area ( about 1 kilometer through the flat part of the city).
Cons: Our first room was VERY small and not as clean as it should have been (we felt we had been relegated to the least-used room!). However, on request, we were moved to a much larger and more comfortable room which was exceptionally clean and relaxing.
10.0 Excellent

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location was excellent, right next to Lake Akan with our room having a lake view. Free soft serve and coffee was an excellent bonus, and the staff were very friendly. Rooms were traditional futon and clean and there was an amazing included onsen.
Cons: The floor was kind of uncomfortable even with the futons. The air conditioning did not work in our room and there was no hot water in our room until we called reception to fix the issue.
7.5 Good
Pros: Location was excellent right beside the lake.
Cons: The hotel is ageing and seemed overpriced for what we received.
5.8 Okay
Pros: It’s ok, very tired needs a revamp. Why on earth they use the space at the back of the hotel with beautiful views of the lake to park cars is beyond me! Rooms are ok but tired, it’s like being in a 70’s movie which I quite liked in a way but it is tired. Breakfast was ok nothing special. Windows are knackered, thought they were left open as they were so drafty. I could everything downstairs at the hotel entrance.
Cons: Oops wrong way round Location ok.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Ice cream and coffee/tea machine in the lobby. So nice! The onsen was nice as well and provides good value for money at the hotel.
