The location is stunning a white sandy beach with clear blue sea and coral reef at the edge of the jungle. Loads of flora and fauna to admire. The staff on the island are fantastic so friendly and helpful. A really nice place to get away from it all. Will hope to return one day.
Our check in experience could have been better. We arrived at our agreed arrival time to be informed that we had missed the free boat transfer for the day and would have to pay for the next one two hours later or pay for a private boat.
The Resort is located in the most beautiful bay surrounded by primary rain forest, absolutely stunning! We are so glad we chose this over the other resorts on the island, the location and view is unbeatable!! Each room is in an own cottage hidden in the forest. Very friendly and helpful staff! The vegetables and fish are all organic and from the resort’s own farms. The resort is also plastic free, which is really great :)
There are only two complimentary boat transfers per day, at other times you have to pay the transfer. However there is an office from the hotel at the boat terminal at Kota Kinabalu where you can easily leave the luggage and explore the city.
Staff was very friendly and the location was amazing. Get a good feel of nature and encounter many different types of wildlife. Food was amazing, as you have a good selection of Malay cuisine and as well as international cuisine. Great value for money. Will definitely recommend and come back!
Sand flies! Worst than mosquitoes. I wish the hotel briefed us on these horrible bloodsuckers.
Bunga Raya went above and beyond to celebrate my birthday. Everyone was incredibly kind, courteous and happy. It is an experience I will never forget
The staff are incredibly friendly, the suites are beautiful and the pool/beach is gorgeous. It's the perfect place to relax, and so accessible from Kota Kinabalu. Luxurious and very special.
My main complaint would be regarding the food. They were very helpful and accommodating with dietary requirements (myself being gluten free and my friend lactose intolerant), but the quality of the food overall was very sub-par. It was bland, uncreative and overpriced.
When you stay at Bunga Raya Island Resort & Spa in Gaya Island, you'll be on the boardwalk and convenient to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park and Sapi Island. Featured amenities include limo/town car service, complimentary newspapers in the lobby, and dry cleaning/laundry services. Planning an event in Gaya Island? This resort has facilities measuring 2000 square feet (186 square meters), including a meeting room. A ferry terminal shuttle is available for a surcharge.
