Villa 49

There is nothing not to like about Villa 49. The accomodation is clean, the reception and staff are excellent, the owner is so hands on. The food by the way is amazing. You didnt need to go to restaurant to eat dinner if you are tired. The location is closed to city center but not to closed that is crowded and noisy.

I stayed here 2 nights upon the recommendation of my driver/guide, who personally knows the owner. I was warmly welcomed by the staff (owner out of town) and my luggage taken up to my top floor room. The room was very large with a big king bed and then another day bed. The bed was comfortable to sleep, with the AC right nearby. The AC did work very well too. There was a flat screen TV, but I never used it. Kettle and tea also in the room. Lots of space to place your things. Bathroom was a bit on the smaller side and a bit dark, but good room to put all my toiletries. Shower itself had a curtain. Water pressure was good and really, really hot water (but also cooler if you wanted). Body wash, bar soap, shampoo, and conditioner provided. Towels were soft. Wifi worked exceptionally well (best speeds I've had in Sri Lanka) and I had no problems video calling family each evening. Breakfast was yummy and made to order. Fresh juice, great tasting tea, eggs made to order, fresh fruit, toast, and then some other side. One day it was coconut roti and the next was a special New Year's Day milk rice (only served on this day). The staff was very attentive.

Minor concerns: - staff asked several times about leaving a review (which I was going to do anyways) - sometimes staff hovered a bit too much when I was eating and trying to read my book - there aren't a lot of plugs in the room. I managed to find one to plug my adapter in to and thankfully it had a bunch of plugs/USB ports.

The staff are very friendly and welcoming! The food was awesome. I would highly recommend.
